Switching from mainstream lip products to cleaner versions is a big deal! I mean, don’t get me wrong, you should definitely switch all your makeup over from mainstream products, but the lips are especially important. Why?? Well, for starters studies show that women re-apply their lipstick/lip product at least 5 times a day…so that’s a lot of toxins continually on those kissers. And they also say women consume over 7 pounds of lipstick in their lifetime…whoah! Pretty crazy. So instead of consuming ingredients like tar, lead and other harmful toxins, I think I’ll stick with consuming natural ingredients like vitamin e oil, jojoba oil and castor seed oil.
Plus, it’s not like you have to sacrifice when switching to a cleaner version… there are so many options- they make it easy! I’ve tried a few in my day…well a lot, I love a good bold lip. I’ve whittled down my faves and given you my top lip products. Get your pout ready!
I love this little guy. I just discovered it this spring, and I haven’t been able to stop using it. It’s like a lip balm, but with some serious color. I have the color Poppy-a perfect pinky hue for everyday wear. It smells like pepperminty goodness too! I’m a sucker for anything with mint. It’s so hydrating, you don’t even need to prep your lip with a lip balm. This is perfect for those who aren’t used to wearing that much makeup, don’t want their lips to standout, and love a good lip balm. But really everyone needs a Nudist stick! $19.50
This lip and cheek stain is reminiscent of grade school days when every girl had a cherry chapstick. You know the smell, well that’s what Just Kissed smells like-sweet cherries. It doesn’t offer much color, but it gives your lips some serious shine and moisture. It comes in two colors- Forever Pink and Forever Peach. I like to think it gives you the blush pink/peach hue were so used to getting after we’ve been kissed…they picked the name well. Great for year round, but especially in the warmer months when you can get away with a little less. $25.00
This was one of the first lipsticks I tried, and I keep going back for more. When I want a bold lip, this is the perfect lipstick. With so many colors to choose from, you’ll feel like you’re not missing out on the toxic ones. Siren is definitely a long wearing lipstick compared to others I’ve tried. I’ll put it on in the morning and it will still be there in the afternoon. Not as vivid but definitely still color packed. I always apply a lip balm before to prep my lips. It helps even my lips out and fills in any cracks so the lipstick just glides on. (I find this especially important when working with a long wear lipstick). These are highly pigmented- which I love! When I want a bold lip that will last, these are the ticket. Oh and they smell yummy too. They also have a cherry/ fruity scent… ah-mazing! $24.00
I really, really love these lipsticks. Ilia knows how to do lip products. They offer great pigment, and glide on easily. You would think you’re wearing your old toxic fave but so much better! It just feels like a traditional lipstick should. I love this for a bold lip as well. They don’t offer as many colors as Vapour but the colors they do are all spot on. I had to re-apply a little more then with the Siren lipsticks from Vapour but nothing crazy. They’re more moisturizing then a typical lipstick though. Nothing crazy with the scent, it smells like plain ol’ lipstick. $26
Like I said, Ilia knows how to do lip products. Besides making a great lipstick, they make an awesome lip crayon. They only come in six shades, but they’re all drool worthy and different than the Ilia lipsticks. They have a lighter feel then the lipsticks, and are more hydrating too. There’s no need to sharpen them, just twist up the end of the pencil. These are especially fun in the younger crowds. $24
Really anything Kjaer Weis is amazing and the lip tint is no different. It gives a matte color, that’s highly pigmented. They come in silver tins and you can either use a lip brush or your finger. I prefer to use my finger, it warms up the product a bit before putting it on my lips. Comes in 11 shades (3 are new). I always apply a lip balm before using the lip tint for the smoothest application. If you’re used to lip tins, this is your jam! When you first purchase anything Kjaer Weis it’s always going to cost more. The second time around you keep the silver tin, and just order a refill and you usually save $20. $49
Well, that’s a wrap. My top non-toxic lip faves. What are yours? Do tell and leave me a comment!
