A place where indie beauty brands, fellow bloggers, and consumers all meet? Sounds like a dream to me! Well I’m describing Indie Beauty Expo. An event taking place in L.A. May 4-5 at The Shrine, and in NYC Aug. 24-25 at The Waterfront. I’m going to be at the L.A. IBE, and I can hardly wait to meet brands, fellow bloggers and so many consumers. Ok, I’ll be honest I was planning on going to both, but realized once the NYC Expo comes around I’ll be 1 week away from delivering my baby! As my sweet husband informed me, babe, they’re not going to let you on the plane…oh yeah. So come to IBE L.A.! When do you get a chance to touch, feel and see so many of these indie brands up close and personal?! I’ve been looking forward to this event, and can hardly believe L.A. is just a short month and a half away.
I caught up with the lovely Jillian Wright one of the founders of IBE, and she gave me the scoop on what you can expect from this fabulous event. Oh and I must tell you, Jillian is an inspiration in and of herself. Not only does she run her own skincare line and spa, Jillian Wright Skincare-which you should definitely check out, but she’s one of the founders of IBE. Just a woman making a difference-I love it!
Q&A with Jillian-
1. Why was IBE created? What’s the vision?
The Indie Beauty Expo was created for independent beauty brands to do
serious business with buyers, consumers and also to meet the press.
With time being so precious, IBE wants to address all the important
components that an indie brand needs to succeed in a two day period.
The Indie Beauty Expo also recognizes brands that are clean and green.
2. Can a consumer expect to directly interact with brands at the event?
YES! Each expo, will have a day/evening dedicated to consumers. May 4th in LA and August 24th in NYC. Each will start in the mid afternoon and go until the evening. There will be cocktails, speakers, panels, demos, workshops, etc…. Consumers are encouraged to try and buy from the brands at the show. This year, instead of giving a bag full of samples, they will get an IBE collectable tote so they can go around and create their own swag bags and meet the brands. We want attendees to learn about them and support the brands one on one. The ticket price for entry will be less to encourage consumers to buy from the brands. On our end we are asking the brands to offer a gift with purchase which you know, can be very creative. Buy this, get a free travel size scrub…. I hope attendees will be not be disappointed, but we have to look at from an economical stand point. The majority of the brands are self funded. Sampling is too expensive for them at this point. So, having more control over the samples they do have is actually great for the brands and the consumers. The exchange becomes more meaningful. With that said, the consumer event will be fun, exciting, and we want everyone to social share! We are telling all the brands to make their booth super gorgeous to encourage everyone to snap photos.

3. I’ve had people ask if this expo will be similar to a Night for Green Beauty?
IBE is larger in scale and multifaceted. IBE is for press/consumers
and buyers and now is a two day event. I went to A Night for Green
Beauty last year and it was lovely. If people are asking because they
want to know about the clean and green beauty lines, we will have a
special display or symbol in our program and in their booths/tables so
attendees looking specifically for them, will be able to identify them
easily. We celebrate green beauty and those who go the distance
should be recognized.
4. As excited as I am to meet the creators of these Indie brands directly, will there be time to play/interact with the product as well?
A BIG YES! The consumer event is all about demoing and trying before you buy!
5. I’m so excited IBE is on the west coast this year, as I’m in Seattle. Is there going to be any difference between IBE in L.A. and IBE in NYC?
Comparing LA to NYC is like apples and oranges. The brands are going to be different and so are the speakers. The venues alone have their own unique character. Whats happen in LA will not be regretted in NY. Each will have it’s own flavor.
6. Going forward, what should people expect from IBE? Will there be more events, locations?
IBE is working on many different facets to help the brands grow. We will be announcing these verticals later this year. Stay tuned!!
