I recently was introduced to a skincare company called Silk Therapeutics. This skincare line is in a league of it’s own. The whole line is based off of using liquid silk in their formulations. They are the only company that has the patent to use pure silk and turn it into gel, liquid or a film form. You might be asking why silk in skincare? Well, there’s actually a lot of reasons! For starters, Pure Silk is a natural protein. The size of the silk resembles collagen. Collagen lowers as we age, but with silk it penetrates your skin helping to replenish collagen. It very much resembles skin, which is why it’s so beneficial. Helping to smooth fine lines, and give you an overall radiant complexion. Silk Therapeutics is unlike any other company in that they only use real unadulterated natural silk in their formulas. You’re not going to find genetically modified silk, sericin or hydrolyzed silk in any of their products.
Besides providing the best sourcing of silk, they take it a step further and only use a minimal amount of ingredients in each product. You’re not going to find a long list of ingredients, because with silk technology you don’t need them. Bio-active liquid silk fulfills so many roles in a skincare product, that there are only a few other ingredients needed to complete a formula. Silk actually helps the other ingredients in the product maintain their potency. In the end, the product is highly concentrated and more active, because it doesn’t have a bunch of fillers added in. They also list on their website each ingredient, and why it’s used. You can find it here.
Silk Therapeutics is also one of the first companies to become EWG certified.
“EWG is a non-profit and non-partisan certifying body that helps to protect human health and the environment.”
If a product contains the EWG certification, consumers can be at ease that the product has been thoroughly reviewed. Here are the standards a product must meet to become certified(taken from EWG’s Website).
Items that carry the mark must score in the “green” range in EWG’s dynamic, market-changing Skin Deep® cosmetics database and must also meet additional criteria set by EWG researchers.
EWG VERIFIED™ products must:
- be free of EWG’s ingredients of concern.
- fully disclose all ingredients on the label.
- be produced with the best manufacturing practices.
Silk Therapeutics is going the extra mile to ensure their products not only perform but also are safe and clean.
What is LabGrab:
Silk is definitely a luxury skincare line and the price reflects that. To make silk fiber into liquid silk requires not only time but money. Unfortunately, price can become a barrier for many people. Silk wanted to be able to offer the same high quality product to consumers but at an affordable price. Thus, LabGrab was birthed. Silk realized the amount of research and development that goes into each formula. Often 10-20 variations are made for one formula and in the end only one gets chosen to be part of their luxury line. However, each variation is tested thoroughly for safety and quality. So you can rest assured the formulas are going to still perform. Yet, it seemed like a waste for Silk to just choose one and discard the rest. Especially after their scientists had poured themselves into these formulations and were so proud of them. This is where LabGrab comes in. Now Silk offers limited editions of some of the best of their skincare products. So instead of paying $150 for a serum, you can pay $60.
I was excited to receive one of these limited edition skincare products. This particular formula is a serum that addresses fine lines-sign me up for that! The scent is neroli. With only 8 ingredients in the bottle. You only need a drop or two for your whole face. You can use it morning and night. This is not a moisturizing serum in itself. I find after I apply it I still need to apply a moisturizer.
What Were My Results:
I applied the serum both morning and night. I followed with a facial lotion since it’s more of a serum and not an oil-my skin still needed some hydration. It feels almost like a gel when you apply it and then instantly seeps into your skin. After a week of using it I noticed my forehead wrinkles were less visible and my overall complexion seemed brighter. I was excited! I would specifically apply the serum on my forehead lines, my laugh lines and my outer eye area where you tend to start getting crows feet. The smell is really mild too- you get hints of neroli but nothing overwhelming.
If you want to snag a bottle of this limited edition serum then you better get on it-there’s only so many! Check out LabGrab and their newest serum formula I tried!
