Rahua Hair Review

Natural hair care is becoming increasingly popular, and Rahau is one of the brands leading the way. I am taking a closer look at Rahau's natural hair care range and sharing my thoughts on some of my favorite products from this brand.

Natural hair care products are always a challenge. As a hairstylist, I am not going to settle for products that don’t work! And, as a clean beauty blogger, my standards for ingredients are high.

Thankfully, there are multiple natural hair care brands on the market that hit all the marks for me and that’s why I am sharing a full Rahua Review!

All About Rahua

Rahua hair products have their roots deep in the Amazon rainforest. The reason for this is that  Fabian Lliguin, a renowned hair stylist and colorist in New York City, was visiting the Amazon Rainforest to educate the indigenous people about their land and human rights when he noted the women had the most beautiful hair!

He needed to know their secret! And, their answer was rahua oil, which is used to nourish their hair and skin. He was given one bottle to bring home with him.

He experimented with this bottle on a client’s hair that was extremely dry and brittle. In just 10 minutes after application, her hair was transformed to healthy and shiny hair.

But, he knew that getting the rahua oil would be a challenge. The oil was produced by the Quechua-Shuar tribe in a very complex, ritualistic, and sustainable fashion. The same way it had been done for generations. And this was something that Fabian did not want to disrupt.

In 2008, Fabian and his wife launched the Rahua brand! They used the knowledge of the indigenous people and rahua oil to create a line of products that ultimately with help to heal, nourish and beautify your hair

Rahua’s Sustainability Efforts

Fabian, who had long worked to support the rainforest’s people as an environmentalist, has continued to do so through the sustainability efforts of the Rahua brand.

Here are a few ways Rahua supports the environment:

  1. Ecoagents: This is a non profit created by Rahua’s founders to create awareness about the Amazon rainforest and the importance of protecting it.
  2. Carbon Neutral: Rahua protects and preserves nearly 150,000 acres of rainforest.  With these forests sequestering 750,000 tons of CO2 per year, this makes Rahua a carbon neutral brand.
  3. Defending Galapagos Endemic Species: 10% of proceeds from the Enchanted Island Collection helps to protect and preserve portions of the Galapagos coasts. This allows habitats and nesting grounds to remain clean for flamingos, penguins, marine iguanas, sea birds and more.
  4. Water Conservation: With only clean formulations being sold by Rahua, this prevents toxins from entering our waterways.
  5. Packaging: Recyclable, reusable and refillable packaging is used.
