Glowing Beet’s April + May Box Review

Glowing Beet’s April + May Box Review

Ok, April and May were a little crazy and I didn’t have a chance to post my Glowing Beet’s April Box-opps!  So you’re going to not only get the April box review but also the May box.  There was some new finds in both boxes and some products I’ve come to love like Pleni Naturals.  Their kid’s products are some of the best I’ve come across and I was so excited to see them in the Glowing Beet’s May box!  I also couldn’t stop smelling The Lava Scrub in Fig & Plum from the April box?!  Such a relaxing scent-it calmed me just by smelling it.  I have all the deets below, but if you haven’t heard of Glowing Beet’s keep reading to hear about this non-toxic subscription box.

Why Glowing Beets?  Well, for starters they include high quality indie brands and they make it so simple.  Their website alone is so easy to navigate and browse.  They have one box, it’s $29.95-a steal for high end green beauty products.  The boxes are all the same, but may vary slightly.  For ex. some boxes may get a different lipstick color, but they’re all from the same brand.  All boxes are shipped at the end of the month once you’re a subscriber, and if you order during the month it will be shipped out within a few days, up until the 15th of the month.  You can sign up for one box, otherwise you will be billed monthly.

I love the concept of Glowing Beets for those who are new to the green beauty scene.  They give you a good selection of products, so you’re able to test them out without making a big commitment at first.  They also offer special discounts to those brands if you do like them-how cool is that?!  Glowing Beets does the research for the best product so you don’t have too.  They include a card in each box that lists what the products are.  I have received two boxes from them and I’ve loved each of them!

Let’s get on to the review!

April Box-

Marin Bee-

In the April Box we received not one but two Marin Bee products.  I was excited to try the line out!  It’s interesting how Marin Bee started.  The line came to be out of a love for bees!  The founders Debra and Bill wanted people to realize the honey bee was quickly becoming extinct.  Soon they created a foundation called Planet Bee Foundation.  This organization helps to educate through workshops and hands on lessons.  A portion of every purchase made from Marin Bee goes to help support the foundation.  What a cool idea!

Detox Masque-

This mask has honey in it of course which draws moisture from the air into the skin.  The mask feels almost gummy.  It’s thick but I added a little water to thin it out.  It says to apply a thin layer to the skin and I found adding a little water helpful.  You only need to leave it on for 10 minutes for the mask to do it’s magic.  When I removed it, my skin felt hydrated and refreshed.  A lot of detox masks leave your skin feeling taut or a little thirsty but not this one.  You can use this several times a week for an instant skin pick me up!

Lip Repair-

I was excited to have a new lip balm to try out!  I seriously can never have enough lip balms- who’s with me?!  This one is especially nice because it comes in a tube form and not a jar.  I like this especially when I’m traveling and don’t have a place to wash my hands before applying.  The formula looks pinkish in color but you can’t tell their is any color when you apply.  It offers some gloss with it and moisturizes the lips too.  Great for wearing by itself for an understated look and for layering on top of a liner or lipstick.  I love that there is virtually no scent too!

Root + Willow Lava Scrub-

This sugar scrub is different than other scrubs I’ve used because it included volcanic pumicite in it-how cool?!  I applied it to wet skin and my skin was left feeling hydrated and smooth.  I love how it didn’t feel overly oily after using.  Just a great all around smoothness.  I felt I was entering into my very own spa when I opened the jar-the ylang ylang & vanilla are the perfect combination.  The scent isn’t strong but enough to leave a little behind.  It really is a whole experience using the scrub.

The Future Is Bright Pin by Fred and Far-

This is the second time Fred and Far pins have been in the Glowing Beet’s Box.  This box contained the Future Is Bright Pin which is meant to represent the power of feminism.  I love that Fred and Far are on a mission to help women love themselves-we need more of that!  You can wear this on some clothing, or attach it to your purse as a daily reminder.

May Box-

Pleni Naturals-

I was so pumped to see Pleni Naturals in the box for May!  I discovered this brand last fall and have been using it on both my daughters for their bath products.  This skincare line is designed for babies and kids, and is made from fruits and vegetables-so cool! The premise is that fruits and vegetables are nutrient packed with antioxidants, fatty acids and vitamins. Whatever we put on our body our skin absorbs-so we are absorbing all the nutrients. They are squeaky clean in their ingredient list and smell so good, yet aren’t overly scented. Made with organic ingredients, all the products are gluten free and vegan too. Their products are also all Made Safe Certified. They have three products. A hair and body wash, a baby balm and a baby oil. I love that the hair and body wash doesn’t dry out my daughter’s skin at all.  A great pick!

Jersey Kids Mineral Sunscreen Stick-

I had never heard of Jersey Kids but was excited to try a new mineral sunscreen.  Once I looked them up I read that their sunscreen had even rated #1 by Livestrong-pretty impressive!  This one has an SPF of 30 and offers both UVA/UVB Broad Spectrum Protection.   They only use zinc oxide as the mineral sunscreen.  It does go on white but once you rub it in it disappears.  I really love the stick option too!  Makes for easy travel and easy application.  I haven’t had a chance to test it out yet but overall I’m really impressed with the ingredients.  It even has a subtle vanilla smell to it which I love.

Jersey Shore Cosmetics All Natural Lip Tinted Shimmer Balm-

These balms were a fun treat in this Glowing Beet’s box!  Not only do they smell like vanilla baked goodness but they offer a subtle hint of sheen and color.  They even have an spf of 10 in them.  I received the sheer red and sheer pink.  They both give the perfect amount of pinkish and reddish tone to the lips.  The ingredients are organic too and on point.  I’ll be wearing these all summer!

Gypsy Soul Organics Nephew River Aromatherapy Spray-

This was another brand I haven’t heard of.  Included in the box was their Nephew River Spray.  This spray contains lemon, lime, basil and grapefruit.  A seriously refreshing concoction!  It’s meant to lift your spirits and awaken your senses.  Great for having at work by your computer, or even in your purse whenever you need a pick me up.  I found myself spraying this all around me!

Boho Chic Cosmetics-

These little lip and cheek tints were such a fun pick in the Glowing Beet’s box!  Reminiscent of a day in Paris that must include macaroons, this collection is called Macaroons.  The lip and cheek tints have ingredients similar to real macaroons, like organic green tea and organic vanilla beans.  I loved sampling each of the 5 tints.  They work so interchangeably on your cheek or lips.  Some offer more pigment and others are more sheer.  I’m crushing hard on Orange Blossom!  The perfect coral hue for spring and summer.  This is such a good gift idea, and has such a cute story of how they were created to go along with it.

Glowing Beet’s March Box Review

Glowing Beet’s March Box Review

Hey, happy spring!!  It feels so good to say that!  Winter is hopefully almost gone and spring is in the air.  Well this month’s Glowing Beet’s box gave me a little taste of spring with a lipstick from FitGlow Beauty that’s a mauve pink the perfect transition from winter to spring.  Plus, it’s exclusively made just for Glowing Beets-how cool!  Then I got some skincare goodies from Gaffer & Child- a facial serum that smells like lemony goodness, and a facial cleanser that’s minty fresh.  Plus, some pins to serve as a reminder to not only love yourself but love more in general.  If you haven’t heard of Glowing Beet’s then read below on how this subscription box works.  If you have, skip to the full review of the March box!

On to the review!

FitGlow Lipstick in Beet-

I love the name of this lipstick!  Obviously perfect for Glowing Beets but also so true to the color.  The lip color reminds me so much of a beet.  It’s mauve, with some pinkish and berry notes mixed in.  A great color for everyday wear but also for kicking it up a notch at night if you keep your lips pretty minimal during the day.  The lipstick itself is super hydrating and goes on so smooth.  I’m not new to FitGlow Lipsticks.  I actually found my perfect red lipstick in a Glowing Beet’s box last year in the color Love.  I’m pretty sure this newest find is going to become a fave for spring!

Gaffer & Child Face Cleanser-

So you guys know I love anything with mint in it-and that goes for food too! Haha, love the smell, love the taste.  So when I saw peppermint essential oil in this face cleanser I was all in.  This cleanser does offer a light foam, even though it’s oil based.  It suds up and gives an overall clean feeling to the skin.  It says to avoid the eye area, so I did, but it removed all my facial makeup.  Their ingredients are mostly organic, minus the green tea extract and willow bark extract.  I really dig the glass pump bottle, not only for the environment but also for product preservation.

Gaffer & Child Hydrating Serum-

Next up is their Hydrating Serum. This serum as I mentioned earlier smells like lemons- a very pleasant scent.  The oil itself is lighter than a lot of oils I’ve tried and goes on smooth.  My skin felt hydrated and moisturized in the morning. Also, a great serum for in the morning before applying your makeup, as it’s not a heavy serum.  A little goes a long way with the product.  I love that the first ingredient is argan oil-one of my favorite oils.  It’s 100% raw, vegan, organic and non-gmo.  With only 8 ingredients this oil packs a punch.  A light refreshing oil perfect for spring!

Fred and Far Pins-

This month we got some cute pins in our box too!  These pins are special reminders to choose love first and foremost.  One of the pins says Me-a gentle reminder about self love.  Remembering you can’t love other people, unless you truly love yourself.  Also, the More Love Pin is a sweet greeting card to celebrate love.  These are encouraging messages we all need to hear!

Glowing Beet’s February Box Review

Glowing Beet’s February Box Review

Ok, who’s ready for Spring?!  I was ready yesterday.  This cold weather has me craving warmer weather and longer days.  Thankfully, March is officially here and I can almost taste Spring.  February’s Glowing Beet’s Box reminded me of spring scents and glossy lips.  For now that will have to do.  The box was filled with some seriously hydrating body butter, body oil and a cute makeup bag and lipgloss.  Oh and I can’t forget an eye serum-um have I mentioned I have two kids, two and under?  Yeah, give me all the eye cream/serums!  Before I dive into this box, let me share with you what Glowing Beet’s is all about.

Ok, onto the review!

Rachel’s Plan Bee

Body Butter-

I’ve wanted to try Rachel’s Plan Bee products for a while now, so I was excited to see them in this month’s Glowing Beet’s Box.  This organic body butter is rich and decadent.  It smells of citrus and grapefruit but isn’t overwhelming at all.  I really like the scent!  I applied it after I got out of the shower and my skin soaked it right up.  My skin felt soft and moisturized but not greasy.  It looks like a rich buttercream frosting in the container-something I can wrap my head around!  Body frosting needs to be a thing…or maybe it already is?? Either way this body butter is a serious skin treat.

Body Oil-

Rachel’s Plan Bee Body Oil is such a complement to the body butter.  I actually applied the body oil before the body butter for the ultimate hydration experience.  The oil soaks right into the skin.  My skin feels moist but not greasy.  The scent is very similar to the body butter except instead of citrus and grapefruit, it’s citrus and vanilla.  Such a pleasant scent!  I love that it comes in a smaller bottle too-great for travel.  My skin felt hydrated the whole day-especially with this cold winter.

HAN Lip Gloss-

I’ve tried a few of HAN’s products and have really liked their eyeshadows and lip and cheek tints.  This is the first time I’m sampling their lip gloss. I got the color in Nude Rose- the perfect subtle mauve color, and a great everyday color-seriously would go with anything.  I love the consistency of the gloss.  It has shine to it but isn’t goopy.  A great formula for wearing to work and not drawing every eye in the building-if you know what I mean!  You may also get the gloss in Raspberry Chardonnay- a bright poppy pink color.  They’re both so pretty and not overly stated-something I love in a lip gloss.

Boho Chic Cosmetic’s Makeup Bag-

It was so fun getting a makeup bag in the box!  It’s the perfect size for a purse-not too big or bulky.  Their makeup bags are handmade with organic fabric- a serious eco luxe bag!  The patterns are so pretty and the colors so vivid and bright.  Such a nice addition to the February box!

Freerange Skincare Aloe & Cucumber Eye Serum-

Last month Freerange had their hand lotion in the box.  This month it’s all about their eye serum.  The eye serum couldn’t have come at a better time!  This mama could use a little lift in the eye department.  A 6 month old and 2 year old don’t stop and sometimes I’m burning the candle at both ends.  This eye serum can be worn alone or under makeup.  It feels cooling when you apply it and smells like cucumbers-an instant pick me up in the morning!  With only a handful of ingredients, one of them is a free range egg white.  It’s interesting to see an egg white in an egg serum but there’s good reason why they put it in there!  Here’s a quote from their website about using egg white as an ingredient-

Egg Whites from well-cared for hens are a natural astringent -they contain nutrients that tone and tighten delicate under eye skin and provides instant impact.

Pretty cool to realize nature has so many nutrients to help even with our delicate eye area!  Excited to continue using this and see brighter and more restful eyes.

That sums up my Glowing Beet’s February Box Review!  See anything you need to try?  Well, if you haven’t signed up then get on it!  This box always offers a little variety, from skincare, hair products, and makeup.  Check out Glowing Beet’s here and use code GGG10 for 10% off your first box!

So let’s get on with the review of this month’s goodies!

LILFOX Mystic Awakening Rosemary Toning Mist- (vegan/cruelty free & gluten free)

I was so jazzed to see LILFOX in this month’s box!  I have tested and reviewed LILFOX in the past and loved their quality and commitment to ingredients.  This toning mist is the perfect mist post cleanse before serums or oils.  It offers a bit of hydration but nothing overwhelming.  My skin feels dewy and balanced after application.  It smells of subtle rosemary and it’s so refreshing.  Can we talk about their packaging?!  So on point.  Their products are packed in amethyst glass to help preserve the contents, and protect the biodiversity of the formula.  Swoon!  A great addition to anyone’s daily skincare routine.  $40

LILFOX Maracuja+Rose Youthful Vixen Face Nectar- (vegan/cruelty free & gluten free)

Ohh this nectar is so good!  First off I love that the scent is so subtle, just a hint of rose.  I prefer face oils to be mild in the scent department and this one is perfect.  I applied it right after the Rosemary Toning Mist and it was divine.  My skin drank it up and there was no oily residue left over- can I get an amen?!  I love when oils/serums settle into the skin and not just sit on top.  This one gives my skin the hydration it needs but no greasiness.  I dig it!  I woke up with happy, plump skin.  It was the perfect oil before makeup application too.  This is a great facial oil for anyone-top notch ingredients, subtle smell and perfect absorption, the formula is legit.  It’s also safe during pregnancy.  $40

ShopKnotty Glowing Beets Anniversary Bracelet-

This is too cute!  I was swooning over this bracelet when I saw it.  First off rose gold is so hot right now!  The bracelet is so dainty and perfect for the wrist.  It has a small pendant with the Glowing Beet’s logo on it.  Such a perfect gift for Glowing Beet’s first birthday celebration!  As always with most jewelry be careful to avoid water and soaps to preserve it.  $34

Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Prim Botanicals Perfume Oil in Mademoiselle Swell-

Love finding new green beauty perfumes, so I was so excited to see this perfume roller ball in the box.  Made of pure essentials oils, this perfume smells like sweet and floral.  It’s not too overwhelming at all, which I love.  With notes of French neroli, Egyptian jasmine, Sicilian lemon and Himalayan Cedarwood.  This is the perfect size to throw in a purse and reapply throughout the day.  The best thing about it?  It actually lasted!  If you’ve been in green beauty long enough you know that natural scents don’t last long-you’re lucky if you get a couple of hours out of it!  This lasted well into the afternoon-I was shocked!  If you’ve been looking for a natural scent but haven’t found one, this may just be your ticket.  A nice clean sweet scent that actually lasts!  $42

Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Jacq’s Organics Hibiscus & Aloe Bath Bomb-

Talk about good timing for a bath bomb!  This mama needed her spa night and this was just the ticket to get me relaxing.  I dropped this bath bomb into the bath and it released it’s goodness.  My skin felt so soft and smooth.  The scents of juniper and geranium gave my mood a boost.  I truly felt so relaxed!  The Aloe Vera really helped to seal in the moisture.  I love the dried hibiscus pedals in the bath bomb-such a nice touch.  Often people think of bath bombs as an extra frivalty but in my opinion things like this almost become a necessity when they calm your senses and create a spa atmosphere right in your bathroom.  Why not love on your self a little?  I know as a mom it’s a must for me to take some time to just breathe and treat myself to something.  This bath bomb is just the thing I needed-highly recommend!  $5

Glowing Beet’s September Box

Glowing Beet’s September Box

So I’m a little late on writing my review of the Glowing Beet’s September box…but guys I have a legit reason! I’ve been snuggling my baby girl.  I feel we’ve settled in somewhat though and I’m finding my groove.  However, if it’s one thing I’ve learned from babies, it’s that they’re constantly changing…so don’t hold me to anything ha!  Anyways, this month’s box has some serious green beauty treats as usual and I couldn’t wait to share them with you guys.

Glowing Beets does the research for the best products so you don’t have too.  They include a card in each box that lists what the products are.

So what’s in the box this month…I thought you would never ask!

The first two products are from q.c. naturals.  I wanted to give you a little background on how they started. I love reading about how companies start out.  There is always a story behind it.  q.c. naturals is no different.  However, this story resonates in my own family.  Michelle and T.J. Jarvis founded q.c. naturals after Michelle’s father was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer that turned metastatic to the brain.  Throughout his 17 months of fighting for his life, Michelle, and family discovered all the horrible toxins in our everyday products.  As a result, they started making their own products.  Unfortunately, the family lost their dad in November 2014.  However, his legacy lives on through q.c. naturals.  Today, they are determined to tell the world about their journey and knowledge.  I related to Michelle’s experience as well.  I too lost my grandma in January of this year to lung cancer that turned metastatic to the brain.  I was honored to sample q.c. naturals products, and continue to spread their mission.

Karan’s Cleanser-

This cleanser is unlike anything I’ve tried!  It squirts out like a toner might.  It actually reminds me more of a toner.  The first ingredient is rose water, and there are only 3 more ingredients after that.  You apply it to a cotton pad or washcloth and apply to your face.  Then you rinse off with warm water.  It felt so refreshing and didn’t leave my skin dry at all.  Most of you know by now that I follow the double cleansing method.  This is the perfect sub in for my usual oil that I use.  I use this and then follow with a more traditional cleanser.  This didn’t remover all of my eye makeup, but did remove all my facial makeup.  A great cleanser for those with any skin type.  Plus, it has a subtle rose smell that I love.  $16.50

zu31218255_main_tm1444409721

Timmy’s Toner-

This toner is an apple cider vinegar toner.  Again, it has only a handful of ingredients.  It does smell like apple cider vinegar, which doesn’t bother me.  It also has tea tree oil and lemon oil in it-which you can smell slightly as well.  If you haven’t read about the benefits of apple cider vinegar-let me inform you.  It helps tighten pores, balance skin, clear acne, and bring an overall brighter appearance to skin.  I think we all can sign on the dotted line for those results!  Most people think their skin is going to feel dry when using a toner with apple cider vinegar but that’s not true.  Apple Cider Vinegar actually helps to balance your skin and find that perfect line between dry and oily.  I didn’t have any dryness when using it.  My skin felt perfectly balanced and clean.  I just applied mine with a cotton pad all over my face.  $16.50

Zao Liquid Liner-

I was so excited to see this liquid liner in the box!  I had tried the mascara before from Zao but that’s it.  I love that the line is made in Italy and really takes their standards seriously.  Their whole line is certified organic, chemical-free, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and vegan- doesn’t get much better than that.  This liquid liner doesn’t mess around.  It goes on so smooth and stays put all day long.  I did try not to blink right away after application so it wouldn’t smear, it is a little wet at first like any liquid liner.  I received the color dark brown.  They also have it available in black, pearly silver and pearly plum.  It’s been hard to find a liner that stays put since going green, but this definitely fits the bill.    $29.50

eye-liner-525x700

Pure SOL Konjac Facial Sponge-

I’ve sampled some of their Konjac Sponges before and I’m a fan.  These charcoal sponges clean your face, all while offering some gentle exfoliation.  The bamboo charcoal sponge is especially great for those with acne prone or oil skin types, because it really gives your skin a deep clean.  I love using these to give my skin a glow and bring back the luster.  The sponge itself is completely bio-degradeable, which is pretty cool. Just run under some water and watch the sponge transform from a hard sponge into a squishy sponge. $8.49

Antonin B. Ceramides Enriched Dessert Serum-

This is one luxurious hair oil!  First off, I love the smell.  It’s not too potent at all, which I love.  I get hints of ylang ylang and lemon.  Some hair oils tend to be overly fragrant for me, but this one is perfect in my opinion.  It’s also not too heavy.  My hair is fine and a little oil goes a long way on this mama’s locks.  I applied mine at night, just a few drops and then woke up in the morning with hydrated hair-not greasy.  This was especially great for my color treated hair, really giving it a moisture treatment that’s been long overdue.  The serum was also perfect for when my hair was tousled and wavy and I wanted to add a bit more texture to it.  Did I mention this hair oil is from Paris?!  Can you say luxe? I love that it comes in a dark glass bottle too, helping to keep all the ingredients as active as possible.  This 100% plant based natural hair oil would be perfect for anyone who has curly hair too-such a great instant pick me up.  $45
