Art of Organics December Discovery

Art of Organics December Discovery

I’ve rounded out my thoughts on Art of Organics December Discovery Box Moonbeam.  This is the second time I’m sharing my thoughts with you all about Art of Organics.  This box doesn’t disappoint!  I’m always amazed by the thought and care that goes into each product selection.  It’s such a special treat to get it each month!

If you aren’t familiar with Art of Organics allow me to introduce you to this amazing box!

Their belief is really simple-You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your health for beauty.  I couldn’t agree more!  Their goal is to bring people the cleanest, best, and most luxurious products.  Claire the founder, has always been a beauty junkie and on the quest to purge her own makeup bag, she realized she wanted to share her journey with others and raise awareness.  I noticed instantly after opening the box, the attention to detail.  They name their boxes each month as well as follow a theme.  The card inside describes the products in the box so well and gave directions for application.  The box is $38, with a value of $70+ and features each month 2-4 full size products.  They have high standards for their product selection, such as being cruelty free, organic and non-toxic.  They have more specifics on the ingredients they don’t use here on their website.

Ok, let’s dive into this month’s box!

Art of Organics December Discovery

Kahina Moisture Mask-

I was elated to see Kahina’s Moisture Mask in the box this month.  I’ve long been a fan of their products and the Moisture Mask was a mask I’ve come to love since they debuted it last spring.  This mask is so different than any mask I’ve used.  It feels like a rich cream when you apply it to your skin.  Then as you leave it on, your skin actually soaks it up.  They recommend you leave it on for 15 minutes or overnight.  I know you might be thinking overnight- really?  YES!  By the time even 15 minutes is up your skin has soaked up so much of the mask that your face feels so hydrated and moist.  Usually you put a mask on your skin and wash it off. With the Moisture Mask so much of the product dissolves into your skin that you’re left with hardly any to take off.  It’s so gentle too- perfect for even sensitive skin types.  If you’ve been searching for a mask that leaves your skin feeling hydrated and smooth- this is it!  Perfect for winter months when your skin needs some extra hydration.

Moon Boost- Lash & Brow Enhancing Serum-

I was just a wee bit excited to see a lash and brow enhancing serum in the box!  I mean who doesn’t want a little lift in their lashes?  Sign me up!  This natural lash and brow serum is vegan and cruelty free.  It comes in a wand form.  You apply it on the base of your lashes and work your way out. For brows you apply it on clean brows.  They recommend you use it every night for best results.  I haven’t been using it long enough to notice an immediate difference but I can say that it doesn’t irritate my eyes at all, which is a big deal!  I’ll keep you posted on what kind of growth I see for my lashes.

That concludes my review of the December Art of Organics box. The value and quality of this box is amazing!  You pay $39 each month and get access to some stellar products.  You can sign up for 3 months, 6 months and 12 months!  At 6 and 12 months you start saving.  Also, each month a theme is chosen around the box.  This month the theme was all about Moonbeam.  The idea of Moonbeam is to reflect on all the good each night  before you fall asleep and tell yourself something positive.  Also, as a subscriber to Art of Organics you get 15% off all store purchases of green beauty products- talk about awesome!  Sign up here!

Green Beauty Faves

Green Beauty Faves

Ok, so I’m about to have a baby, I mean I’m due in less than a week…hello!  I’m just giddy thinking about this little girl inside of me.  I’ve definitely got my nesting going on.  The nesting has carried over into my blog and so I thought I would do a round up of some current faves from green beauty, since I may be a tad occupied here soon enough!

So every now and then I get a handful of products that I have been testing and end up loving.  A lot of times it isn’t a whole line either, but just a few products from a line.  Recently, this has been the case.  I couldn’t wait to share with you guys my findings!

Primally Pure Cleansing Oil and Complexion Mist- (Use code: gurlgonegreen for 10% off)

I was so pumped to finally try their skincare line.  I love their commitment to organic ingredients and sourcing, plus they are a little more budget friendly.  I had tried their deodorant a few months back and fell head over heels for it, couldn’t wait to dive into their skincare.  First off let’s chat about the Cleansing Oil.  I tried the one for normal + combination skin.  I love that it comes in glass, and is all organic.  There’s not that many ingredients, which I love.  Just pure and simple skincare.  I love the refreshing smell it has of grapefruit and geranium, mixed with juniper, nice but not overwhelming at all.  I applied about a quarter size amount to dry skin and wiped off the oil with a warm wash cloth.  Not only does it remove my makeup but also my eye makeup-really the true test in my opinion.  My skin is left feeling nourished and clean.  $18

The Complexion Mist also comes in glass and is organic.  It smells divine!  I think two of my favorite scents collided in this one, rose and peppermint.  It’s both light and refreshing at the same time.  The perfect mist to use after their Cleansing Oil.  I love that it has aloe in it too-hydrating and soothing.  I can easily carry this in my purse as well since it’s not to big and refresh throughout the day.  Just call me a mister, because I’m obsessed with misting my skin throughout the day!  It keeps my skin feeling hydrated and fresh, especially in this summer heat. $24

Ursa Major Force Field Daily Defense Lotion-

I’ve been talking lots about Ursa Major as of late, but for good reason.  Their products not only work, but are full of skincare superheroes.  Their newest product, Force Field Daily Defense Lotion with SPF18 is no exception.  It’s made using non-nano uncoated zinc oxide.  I was actually excited to have a daily sunscreen I could use that had a lower spf content than some others I have.  Living in the Pacific Northwest, SPF 18 is actually plenty most of the time, since we don’t see the sun a whole lot.  Plus, often times when I use a higher spf on my body I end up not seeing any color-this is the perfect solution.  I don’t burn but I can walk away from the sun with a nice glow.  Having said that, I don’t typically show my face in the sun and always wear some sort of hat usually if I’m in direct sunlight.  This goes on so smooth and doesn’t leave any greasy residue behind.  Oh and my face doesn’t look white.  Great for both men and women, who want a little moisture and SPF.  This has been my go too!  $54

Kahina Prickly Pear Seed Oil Rollerball for Eyes-

I was so excited when Kahina came out with this product!  You all know what a huge fan I am of prickly pear seed oil.  This oil is rich in vitamins K and E and not only hydrates the eye area but helps with dark circles and fights further damage.  Plus, it comes in the cutest little rollerball.  Since the rollerball is stainless steel it actually works to de-puff the eye area as well.  I just applied it all over my eye area with the roller ball.  Then I would take my ring finger(least muscles) and tap the oil into my skin.  It’s not greasy and absorbs within minutes.  The perfect little travel companion to pop in your makeup bag.  It’s also organic!  Oh and I also stored it in the fridge and would apply in the mornings for maximum de-puffing action-it helped!  Kahina really goes the extra mile to not only create products that are effective but also sourcing the finest ingredients.  This has become a fave!  $40

Butter Babes Body Butter- (Use code: gurlgonegreen for 20% off)

I had heard great things about Butter Babes Body Butter and couldn’t wait to try it out for myself.  Made with organic ingredients this body butter is so hydrating.  With ingredients like organic cacao butter, organic virgin coconut oil, and organic mango butter, this body butter doesn’t mess around.  I loved applying it to my growing belly too!  The perfect anti-stretch mark butter for any mama to be.  My skin felt hydrated for days.  A little goes a long way too.  I even loved the added benefit of using it in the sun on my legs and arms for a little extra tanning oil.  It doesn’t smell like anything strong either, which I loved. Sometimes body butters can be too fragrant, but this one isn’t at all.  Just pure ingredients that do the job! $48

Me and the Girls- (Use code: gurlgonegreen for 10% off, discount code starts Wednesday Aug. 31st)

Ok, I tried a fair share of products from Me and the Girls and I must report they’re all good!  I first had tried their products in a Glowing Beet’s Box.  Their lip scrub to be exact.  And if you all remember, it’s the best lip scrub I’ve used!  I use it all the time and it remains a staple.  So you can imagine how excited I was to try some of their other skincare goodies.  First up is their foot products, wow-I love their foot products! I’ve taken them with me when I’ve had my toes done and even the pedicurist has been impressed with the performance and scents.  The Foot Scrub and and Foot Softening Creme both smell divine and have peppermint all over them-my feet literally feel like little clouds after I’m done.  I use the scrub on my feet in the shower daily and can’t get enough of the refreshed feeling after using it.  Did I mention the ingredients are organic and amazing?  Because they are.  I also sampled their body scrub- another fave.  My husband’s somewhat of a body scrub connoisseur and he gave it the thumbs up after first use.  I couldn’t agree more.  Their Bar Beleza Multi-Use Beauty Bar is seriously a genius product too!  Not only can it moisturize skin, but tame fly aways.  You could literally just throw that in your suitcase for travel and eliminate 5 products and it smells so good!  I also sampled a small container of their Anti-Aging Night Facial  Moisturizer.  The consistency is more of a thick butter, great for those needing a little extra hydration.  I feel like I’m at a spa when I use their body products, they’re that good!  Trust me, you all need to try them.

Eat Pretty, Live Well Book and Journal-

The book Eat Pretty, Live Well is such a great resource for anyone wanting to take their body to the next level from the inside out.  Often times we look to products to solve our skincare problems, when really great skin starts from the inside out.  This book is chockfull of nuggets!  The whole premise is really about the connection between the food we eat and our beauty.  It really paints a clear picture of how the two are so closely linked. I love the recipes Jolene gives in it for the seasons and why you should eat certain foods when.  The Eat Pretty, Live Well Journal is the perfect companion to really applying the Eat Pretty, Live Well book.  In the journal, there is a section to write everyday what you ate and how you are feeling.  I loved this whole aspect of it, because after 10 days you can really evaluate what your skin looks like as a result of what you’ve been eating.  It’s about finding out what your beauty goals are and assessing how to reach them.  I love the first couple pages too, where she lists the beauty foods and what they do for the body-so insightful.  This is a must for anyone who wants to take their health and beauty to the next level!

Well that sums up my current green beauty faves.  Have you tried any of them?  Be sure to snag some loot with the discount codes above.  All these products are heavy hitters!

Marie Veronique Everyday Coverage SPF 30 tinted moisturizer-

I’m going to be reviewing more products from Marie Veronique in the future but for now, I just had to tell you about this tinted moisturizer with spf 30.  It’s not like other tinted moisturizers with sunscreen I’ve used that leave my skin feeling greasy and shiny.  This one actually feels hydrating when applied, but then settles into the skin perfectly with no sheen.  I’m addicted!  Not to mention, the sunscreen in it is full spectrum, non-nano and 30?!  That’s hard to find.  It comes in extra light, light and medium.  I chose light and it’s a perfect match.  It isn’t super heavy coverage but just enough to even your skin out and look pulled together.  Plus, when I’m on vacation I always go with less, especially when I’m prancing around in the water.  I love that it comes in a glass pump bottle too, so easy to use.  I’ll be wearing this all spring and summer.   Trust me, you will love it! $48

INA DAYLE Coffee Time Body Scrub & Lip Scrub-

Not only will this wake you up in the shower, but also target those stubborn little dimples.  I mean swimsuit season is here peeps, and we all could use a little help evening out skin tone.  This scrub is made from just a handful of natural ingredients.  It smells like a fresh cup of coffee and leaves your skin silky smooth.  Let’s just say I’m addicted.  I also have the Pucker Lip Scrub from INA DAYLE as well, and I’ve been using it in the morning as a little pick me up.  It has a cinnamon coffee smell that is divine!  My lips can get chapped and peel in warm or cold weather, so this will be the perfect companion for a sunny spring break trip.  Plus, spring break can mean late nights, and what better way to wake up then to some coffee scrubs!  Oh and did I mention they both come in these really cute glass jars?  Yeah, I’m a fan.  INA DAYLE has been so kind to offer 10% off your purchase using code: gurlgoneID.  Snag some before your trip here!  $22 & $18

Kahina Essaouira Perfume-

Who doesn’t want to smell good for spring break?!  This perfume just came out not too long ago, and has me craving sunny weather like nobody’s business.  It comes in this chic little glass roll on-so easy to take with you on a trip.  The scent is perfect for spring, light and airy.  With notes of rose, sandalwood, geranium, lavender and petitgrain, it will have you thinking happy thoughts.  I love being able to still wear perfume, and know it’s completely natural.  All the essential oils in Kahina’s perfumes are steam distilled.  Snag one of these if you want to smell yummy!  $78

Kostmatology Herbal Fresh Body Wash and Scrub-

Kostmatology recently came out with a new scent for their body wash and scrub and I’m loving it!  I love anything with mint, and this is made with spearmint and rosemary-a match made in scent heaven.  I’ve been using both and can’t get enough.  It makes you crave the lightness of spring and sunny days.  My husband is obsessed with the scrub, I’ve had to tell him to rotate, because he uses it everyday!  Both the scrub and body wash give your skin that fresh tingly feeling.  They remind you spring is here, and summer is just around the corner.  I love anything Kostmatology.  Janis the founder, uses only the best ingredients and nothing harsh.  My skin always feels moisturized when I’m done using her products.  If you haven’t used their hand soap yet, get on it-it’s the best I’ve tried!  My hands never get dry.  Check out my review of it here.  $11.99 & $18.99

DeVita Solar Body Moisturizing Mineral Sunscreen-

This is the perfect all over body mineral sunscreen.  It just contains zinc oxide, offering both UVA and UVB, an SPF of 30+ and is of course non-nano.  It doesn’t make you look like a ghost either!  Best of all it works!  I love that this is fragrance free as well.  It feels more like a lotion, than an oily sunscreen.  They also state on their website that they’re safe for the “gluten sensitive.”  It gets two thumbs up from me for it’s large size too.  Sometimes on vacation I’ll need to bring a couple because the size is so small, but DeVita’s is a large 7 oz. tube!  $27.95

That sums up my spring break green beauty picks!  What are some must have green beauty items you’re bringing with you?

Fave Serums

Fave Serums

Ok, this post has been a long time coming… a really long time!  I love a good serum and so does my skin.  Why use a serum?  Oh boy, don’t get me started.  There are some areas where you can skimp but a good serum is not one of them.  If there was one skincare product I would recommend investing in it would be a good quality serum.  Serums are different then traditional cream moisturizers.  Instead of adding in all the extra thickeners and emollients they pack them full of anti-aging antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients.  Serums are more concentrated to treat the skin, whether it’s for anti-aging, hyper pigmentation, eczema or just overall moisture renewal.  Are you getting why I invest in a serum?  This is also why they typically cost more than other skincare products, because they are so potent-full of  ingredients that can really help steer your skin in the direction you want it to go.

A lot of people think if they have acne, then they should stay away from serums because they’re an oil-couldn’t be farther from the truth!  Most of the time with oily skin, serums are the better option than a traditional moisturizer.  As I mentioned, traditional moisturizers have a lot of added fillers that could clog pores, and serums just contain the pure oil and antioxidants.  Serums since they’re so potent, can target specific areas, so if you do have acne, there is a serum for you.  Plus, gone are the days where people starve their skin of any moisture as to dry out their acne.  No more peroxides and harsh ingredients needed.

I’ve tried out a good number of serums in my day and I’ve come across some favorites for all skin types and issues.  And good thing, considering most conventional serums are filled with toxins like mineral oil, Parfum/Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Propylene Glycol PEG’s and a lot more junk that you don’t want anywhere near your skin.

Here are my findings, there will be more to come-for sure, but for now these are tried and true.

Acure Seriously Firming Facial Serum-

This is another great serum that really works and doesn’t break the bank.  Full of all organic ingredients like pumpkin seed oil, borage oil and argan oil, this little bottle packs a punch.  It’s heavier then some serums, definitely more of a rich oil.  It smells so good too-the scents that stick out to me are lavender and orange.  This felt like a drink of water for my skin.  I would wake up in the morning and my skin would just feel so plump…in a good way.  Borage oil is actually known for soothing skin and calming redness…hello!  I didn’t use this in the day under makeup because it was too heavy for me.  Over time I noticed a glow to my skin and just balanced skin.  My skin felt firmer and I attribute it to all the moisture my skin was getting from the potent oils.  Remember, dry skin lends itself to wrinkles, hydrated skin equals happy plump skin.  This is great for those with dry to combination skin.  At $19.99, a no brainer for anyone sticking to a budget and wanting a natural serum!

Skin Owl Beauty Drops-

These are such great affordable serums too.  I used the Geranium Beauty Drops and it’s almost gone-that’s how good it is peeps!  I love one of Annie’s(the creator of Skin Owl) concepts on skincare-she said, “I wanted to provide more than just skin care, I wanted to deliver a core component of total self-care too.”  And who can argue with that?  Total self care is what you get with this beautiful serum.  First off, it smells amazing and has two ingredients raw organic argan oil and organic geranium oil.  Just pure stuff people-it really doesn’t take much!  The geranium is best for combination skin types that need to decongest, enhance radiance and give overall moisture.  My skin feels so moisturized when I use it.  Not greasy- it literally melts into my skin.  I wake up in the morning with supple and even skin-no redness.  I also used it underneath my makeup.  I would apply 5 minutes before my foundation application-it went on so evenly.  They also make two other Beauty Drops, one for oily/acne skin called Lavender and the other for dry/mature skin called Clary Sage.  She also has a nighttime oil called Mangosteen, which I haven’t tried but can only imagine how wonderful it is.  Bottom line if you’re looking for a serum that does the work on your skin but want an affordable option, then this is it!  It retails for $30.

Wonderland Organics/Sublime Serum-

The Sublime Serum is great for sensitive skin.  I have dry skin, but it can be oily sometimes too, and this was just what my skin needed.  With organic ingredients like pomegranate oil, apricot kernel oil and argan oil, this truly is a moisturizing serum.  What I love about the serum is that it melts right into my skin and doesn’t leave an oily residue.  It smells amazing too, with notes of rose in it.  Upon waking up in the morning my skin feels supple, moist and revived.  My redness has gone down and I felt my skin looked even and awake.  This also works great underneath my makeup.  I would highly recommend if you have dry to normal skin. I also have a full review on the other two serums from Wonderland Organics on the blog here. $39.99.

May Lindstrom Youth Dew-

This is a luxurious serum and I love it.  First, it smells insanely good, I get hints of rose and citrus-perfectly blended together.  The serum melts into my skin and feels weightless while at the same time perfectly balancing my skin.  My skin absorbed it all-no oily feeling…something I just love about this serum.  It’s not as heavy as some serums I’ve used.  After using it for a while I noticed a glow and dewy look.  I never felt my skin was dry…it’s hard to explain, it was just so balanced.  I used it underneath my foundation and it created a perfect even complexion.  Don’t even get me started on the ingredients- it’s just packed with over 20 botanical plant oils that are anti-aging, as well as CoEnzyme Q10.  I recommend this for all skin types.  It’s not too heavy for blemish proned skin, yet moisturizing enough for dry/combination.  The creator May puts so much into her products, if you’re looking for a luxurious skincare experience that is not only pure to the core but produces results, then this is it.  The price is steeper but you also have to consider how many active ingredients are packed in it…it’s chockfull!  $120.

Kahina Beauty Brightening Serum-

This has been in my skincare routine for a while-a must have product for me.  Just like the name says, it brightens and lightens spots on your skin.  From sun spots, hyper pigmentation, acne scars, elasticity, and firmness-it gives an overall radiance.  It’s not like a typical oil serum that’s heavy but lighter.  It doesn’t even look like an oil, it’s a whitish color.  It does take some time to see results as far as brightening spots but it does work over time.  I feel an even look to my skin.  A lot of times people say their skin doesn’t feel even or their complexion is dark in one area and light in another…well this is the product you need!  I’m a pretty big fan of anything Kahina, her cleanser is amazing too and I think she has the best night cream I have tried.  Anyone could benefit from the brightening serum…that’s all.  $72

Kypris Antioxidant Dew-

This is a water based serum.  It is the perfect serum to apply pre-makeup application.  It hardly feels like an oil to me, because it’s so much lighter than what you think of traditional oils.  My face doesn’t look oily or greasy at all but moisturized.  It just settles in my skin perfectly, leaving the perfect canvas for foundation.  This is especially great for those who have unbalanced complexions.  I’ve just been using this since the summer, and I imagine in the winter I’ll need more moisture for sure, since this is so light.  But this is the perfect serum for day time.  Just like the name suggests, it helps to protect skin from environmental damage and pollutants.  All of Kypris products are great for sensitive skin types- the serum doesn’t really smell like anything to me.  They also have two other serums Moonlight Catalyst and Clearing Serum.  As well as 3 Beauty Elixirs.  They all serve a different purpose and can be combined together for the ultimate skin cocktail.  $67

These are my current faves when it comes to serums/treatments.  This only the tip of the iceberg of all the serums out there.  I will definitely be reviewing more to come (I currently am) but for now I wanted to share what I’ve used and loved.  Have you used any of these or do have other faves?  Let me know in the comments, I would love to hear!
