Natural Cleaning 101

So I’m pretty obsessed with cleaning…no joke.  I can’t stand when my house is dirty or out of place.  And yes, I’m pregnant and everyone tells me that will change or it has to with kiddos.  I smile politely, because I’m nice but inside I think just wait…I will have a clean house!  Haha, ok I’m not completely naive, I know I will have to let a few things go.  However, until my little nugget arrives let the cleaning obsession continue!

I have 6 basic products that are always in my cleaning caddy:

1. White Vinegar
2. Baking Soda
3. Hydrogen Peroxide
4. Homemade granite cleaner- Start with a 16 oz. spray bottle, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil,  3 drops of liquid dish soap, 1/4 cup of alcohol, andfill the rest of your bottle with water.
5. Homemade Vinegar/Water Cleaner- Start with a 16 oz. spray bottle, add half
water and half vinegar.
6. Dr. Bronner Liquid Soap- A great soap to use in recipes for dish soap.

Bathrooms:

Toilet- I use baking soda and hydrogen peroxide for the toilet.  First I sprinkle the baking soda all around the toilet bowl.  I scrub with my toilet bowl cleaner, then I add some hydrogen peroxide to it and scrub again.  I find this gets rid of all my stains and leaves the toilet nice and white.  I then spray a little more hydrogen peroxide on the toilet lid and and all around to kill all the germs.  Wipe with a cloth.

Shower/Tub– I sprinkle baking soda in the shower/tub and then I spray a ratio of 50/50 water and vinegar.  Then I scrub away.  I find the vinegar really gets the soap scumb, plus it’s a disinfectant.

Countertops/Cupboards– I use a mixture of my granite cleaner for my counters since they’re granite and then for my cupboards the 50/50 water and vinegar ratio.

Mirrors/Windows– I use the 50/50 water and vinegar solution.  Spray it on the mirrors and just wipe off with an old rag or t-shirt.  I found if I used paper towels it would leave streaks, plus rags or old t-shirts are a lot more environmentally friendly.

Kitchen:

Counters– I use my homemade granite cleaner.  Spray on the counters and wipe off with an old rag or t-shirt.

Kitchen Sink– I usually clean my sink once a week.  I first sprinkle on baking soda and scrub away.  Make sure if your sink is stainless steel you don’t use a steel wool brush on the sink because it will leave scratches.  I use a scotch pad.  I spray my 50/50 vinegar water solution after scrubbing  with the baking soda and then scrub a little more.  This kills any bacteria plus gets rid of any leftover grime.  Then add a few drops of your favorite essential oil and rub into the sink to make shine and smell fresh and clean.

Floors– I bought a Shark mop a year ago and love it!  I ended up buying it because it doesn’t use any chemicals to clean with, just really hot steam.  The steam alone kills 99.9% of germs and you don’t have to smell all those nasty chemicals!  It comes with 2 removeable pads that you wash after each use.   So environmentally friendly and my floors shine afterwards…I’ll take it!  I have the basic one called the Shark Steam Mop.

Refrigerator– I use my 50/50 vinegar and water to clean the fridge and wipe with a clean cloth.  I also always have a bowl of baking soda in my fridge to ward off any smells.  You can always add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the baking soda as well.

Cabinets– I use my 50/50 vinegar and water to clean the cabinets as well.  Again spray and wipe with a clean cloth.

*The great thing about natural cleaning…it’s super cheap and non-toxic!

The recipe for the granite cleaner seems to be cut off. Is it possible to repost that recipe? Thanks!
