All About Highlighters

Everyone wants that lit from within glow…you know the look the magazines gives you with their photoshopped models.  The light just happens to hit the model perfectly…funny how that happens every time.  Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m not getting photoshopped everyday, and I still need to look half awake!  So where sleep is little, the power of the highlighter is strong.

I’ve picked out my current highlighter faves for you.  These are all great at achieving the lit from within glow, as well as letting people know, I’m awake! Oh and they’re all free of any nasties.  You can apply these in the inner corners of the eyes, right under your brow bone, along the upper cheekbone, or wherever else you might need a little magic!

RMS Living Luminizer-

With just four ingredients this luminizer not only gets the job done, but is so clean as well.  It comes in a jar, and can be dabbed wherever you need a bit of highlight.  Goes on so smoothly, and leaves behind a pearl like color.  It has a little more weight to it than my next two, I guess you could say it’s a bit thicker, but not in a bad way.  I mixed a little with my blush, and found it created a bit of an iradescent quality…which I loved!  It’s RMS’s top selling product…and for good reason. $38

W3LL People Bio-Brightener Stick-

This baby is oh so lovely.  It comes in a stick form, not that I just swipe it on, and don’t blend it a bit with my fingers, but for some reason it’s less messy to me.  The color is a little more cool toned, versus the RMS Luminizer.  It’s great for creating that dewy, natural look.  The consistency is a little thinner to me than the RMS as well.  This ones about $10 cheaper too, so if you’re on a budget, this may be your gem. $29

Jane Iredale 24-Karat Gold Dust-

These are quite different then the first luminzers, because they’re in powder form, instead of a cream.  They come in five different options: Silver, which is true to it’s name and great for brightening.  Gold, which will give you more of a golden glow.  Bronze, creates more of a sun kissed look with hints of shimmer.  Champagne, is going to give you shimmer with a touch of pinkish hues.  Rose Gold, is the most pigmented of the 5 and is going to give you that pop of color for your cheeks, while adding a hint of shimmer.  My personal faves of the five are Silver and Gold.  Silver is going to give you that glow, I just had my eight hours of sleep look.  While Gold is going to give you that tanned/warm I just got back from the beach glow.  A big powder brush is great with these for the cheekbones.  For the eye area I like to use an eyeshadow brush that’s slightly damp.  It helps avoid too much shimmer from falling in places you don’t want it.  $14

Great post! I might have to try these out. Was wondering if you had any suggestions or tips for getting rid of/covering the dark mom eye circles? (I’ve got a toddler and soon to be a newborn) I want to look awake, refreshed and together (even if I don’t feel it) rather than looking like I got punched in both eyes. If you have any tips that would be awesome! 🙂 Love your blog and Instagram!

These all look amazing Suzi! I got the RMS cream shadow in Solar, but I realized that it’s not overly pigmented and fades away quite fast 🙁 Would you say that the luminizer stays on for longer? The Jane Iredale one looks wonderful, I might have to try that one.

Thanks! 🙂 I’ve found the luminizer does last longer(I have Solar as well) and I totally get what you mean. I’ve had to really prime my eye if I want it to stay. I really like the RMS Un-Powder for setting my makeup afterwards. The Jane is nice because it’s a powder, so it’s staying power is pretty long! I would say the W3ll People one is amazing for staying power though. I’ve worn it the whole day and still can see it at the end of the day. If you tend to have oily skin, you may prefer the Jane. 🙂

Thanks so much! Haha, the famous mom circles, I feel ya girl! 🙂 As far as an eye cream I would recommend Leahlani Skincare’s Supreme Eye Cream & Wrinkle Cream. It’s only $22, but it’s full of so much goodness. It’s one of her best selling items. I need to do a review soon on her products, they are truly amazing! The price point for them all is so great and they actually perform. She makes them herself on Kaui in Hawaii. There is so much buzz about her stuff. I haven’t tried her serums yet, but I can’t wait too! As far as makeup, I love using Un-Cover Up by RMS Beauty under my eyes and all over where I need some evening out. It’s a great “mom” product in my opinion. It isn’t like you’re wearing a full face of foundation but it actually covers well but looks natural. Then I always use a highlighter of some kind…it seriously makes me look like I’ve had some quality sleep…even when I haven’t! 🙂 Another tip is self tanner! Ha, it seriously makes me look 100 times better, even if I have no makeup on. Check out my post on self tanners under skincare. Ok, my last little tip/trick is pure rose water. I soak cotton rounds in rose water and put them over my eyes for 10-15 minutes. I’ll do this in the morning when my baby girl is nursing or when she’s napping. It’s best to do twice a day for a couple weeks. It’s totally helped me! I get my rose water from amazon. Gai Purity makes a good organic one for $12. http://www.amazon.com/ORGANIC-Water-Large-Moroccan-Petals/dp/B00V7A8UPE/ref=sr_1_1?m=A1XLM9OGROVVWG&s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1432276371&sr=1-1&keywords=rose+water I know everyone is different but I hope this helps! 🙂

Thank you for your help! RMS uncover up is on my wishlist. Maybe I’ll sneak it into the “must have section for postpartum recovery. 😉
