Natural Hand Creams/Lotions/Balms

With temperatures dropping my hands are slowly getting drier.  The cold weather zaps all the moisture out of them.  I’ve done my fair share of testing with hand creams/lotions (whatever you want to call them) and narrowed it down to my natural top picks.

People apply a hand cream several times a day, so it’s important to pick a non-toxic one.  Conventional hand creams can contain a number of toxic offenders, like mineral oil, phenoxyethanol, PEG’s, parabens, and fragrance…just to name a few.  No thanks!  Think about it?  You apply your hand cream several times a day, so you end up applying toxins several times a day…not good.  Plus, a lot of these toxic creams contain ingredients that will actually dry your skin out more, instead of help hydrate and bring moisture.  So what to do?

Here are my top picks for hand creams/lotions-

Osmia Organics Shea Hand Cream-

This hand cream does it all.  It comes in a pump dispenser that makes it easy to use, and the smell is amazing!  A mix of vanilla, rosemary and a few other essential oils.  It’s not a strong smell, just perfect.  The hand cream itself hydrates my skin, but leaves no greasy residue-something I love.  It isn’t the most hydrating moisturizer I’ve used, but a good mid-range one.  I use this all year round.  I also prefer it during the day when I’m out and about because it is so easy to use, and doesn’t leave a greasy residue.  A must for anyone looking for a moisturizer that has it all.  They’re offering 20% off for Cyber Monday- use code: OOHOLIDAY2015 They also have it the scent Linden Rose. $24  (sample size for $4)

Metta Hand Balm-

First, I love how this hand balm comes in a glass jar!  It is just like the name suggests-more of a balm then a hand cream.   A little goes a long way with this beauty.  It melts into an oil feel when you put it on.  However, the oily feeling quickly resides, and your left with perfectly hydrated hands.  The scent is really mild, hints of lavender, but nothing overwhelming.  I love applying right before I go to bed- I wake up with happy, hydrated hands.  My hands have never been softer!  I definitely recommend for those with dry/cracked hands.  This is a lot heavier than the Osmia hand cream, as it a balm and not a cream.  $22 (Use coupon code: GURLGONEGREEN for 30% off)

Booda Butter-

This moisturizer can be for your hands or anywhere you need a little extra hydration.  It comes in a tin and is more of a balm texture, similar to the Metta hand balm.  The smell reminds me of chocolate…chocolate frosting to be exact.  I gather the smell comes from the cocoa butter in it.  With only five ingredients, this moisturizer packs a punch.  If you don’t like an oily residue, then this may not be your moisturizer.  It definitely leaves an oily residue behind.  But it really leaves your skin soft and hydrated, so take your pick.  I’ve even used this on my body.  It’s a more budget friendly option, and a little goes a long way, so you’ll definitely have this for a while.  Plus, for those who don’t like any added fragrance this is a natural  great pick.  $14

ZOE Organics Everything Balm-

This is another balm but it’s not greasy.  It really melts right into your skin, leaving behind the smell of lavender and vanilla.  It’s more of a barrier or shield than a greasy balm.  It leaves my skin moisturized and for a while.  I have this in my purse at all times.  I’ve used it on my daughter’s diaper rashes, my hands and even this weird rash I had on my neck for a while, (don’t ask).  The name really does describe it well, it does a little of everything.  I’ve even used it on my lips.  You all need one of these!  Bonus, you can find this at Target.  Use coupon code: GGG20 for 20% online at Zoeorganics.com.  $14

Shea Terra Organic Mini Shea Whippers-

I had never heard of this brand before getting their shea butter in my Glowing Beets Box-but I am huge fan now.   Shea Terra Organics sources the most potent, organic and wild harvested ingredients from across Africa.  This pristine environment, little tainted by modern pollution, grows some of the safest, unchanged botanical ingredients on earth. Unwilling to compromise, Shea Terra Organics uses whole herbs for its potent, synergistic benefits.  This shea butter smells like the tropics-a perfect blend of lime and coconut.  It melts right into your skin and leaves behind no greasy residue.  It’s pack full of all the good stuff too!  Aloe vera, pumpkin seed oil, shea butter and essential oils.  The 10z. jar is the perfect size to take on a trip or stash in your purse.  They also have so many other tantalizing scents available.  This is also a more budget friendly option.  Can you say the perfect natural stocking stuffer?!  $6

q c Natural s quinny’s cream-

I was sent some of q c naturals products and as I’ve been testing them out, I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed.  Their quinny’s cream has quickly become a fave.  It only has three simple ingredients: shea butter, avocado oil, and olive fruit oil.  I haven’t seen this combination together before, but it’s a good one, because it works!  You can use it for so much more than just your hands too!  It comes in a hefty 4 oz. jar, and looks and feels like a hand cream more than a hand balm.  It goes on smooth and hydrates so well.  My hands feel soft and not greasy.  I was really impressed how long my hands felt smooth and moist…this is some good stuff.  Not only is this natural vegan but also scent free for those who are sensitive to smell.  $20 (35% off for Cyber Monday Use Code: CYBERSTEALS)

100% Pure Coconut Hand Buttercream-

This is similar to most hand creams/lotions I grew up using.  It comes in a snap closure/squeeze package.  This smells amazing…like island paradise.  They also have several other scents as well.  This hand cream is a good all around moisturizer.  It isn’t the most intensely hydrating hand cream, but it does the job and doesn’t leave your hands feeling greasy.  It’s also very budget friendly at $11.99.  (Pharmaca.com is having a 30% off Cyber Monday sale, use code: CYBER, stock up on this one).
