Sooo…the cat’s out of the bag!  I’m doing a podcast!!  I’m beyond excited if you can’t tell.  This has been a long time coming.  Having a blog is awesome, but there are so many other communication avenues today.  I really wanted to do something that people could listen to in the car, exercising, cleaning the house-you get the point…multi-task.  I personally love listening to podcasts, especially having a kiddo, it’s easier sometimes to listen then to sit down and read something.  Ok, so enough chit chat, what’s this podcast going to be about?

Well, I’m glad you asked.  For a while I’ve wanted something that focuses more on health, and our body.  In my blog I cover everything from green beauty, green living, and clean eating.  However, there is only a certain threshold I can delve into with health, because let’s face it, I’m not a doctor.  In today’s age you can look up anything online, and get an opinion or an answer…I do this all the time.  The sad part is a lot of people do this casually, and then take their info. and tell everyone it’s fact.  The problem with that is then everyone takes what they just wrote as truth.  I’ve read and heard far too many internet researchers haphazardly giving their opinions when they have no idea what they’re talking about.  Can anyone else relate?!  There is a lot of misinformation out there, or as my husband likes to call internet doctors!  So what to do?  Well, if you’re me then you create your very own podcast, called the “Green Gurl and the Doc”.

Yes, you heard me right!  This podcast will not only include myself, but a Licensed Naturopathic Physician, Dr. Matt.  He has been my personal physician for the past 7 years, and has helped me with a numerous of health issues.  He received his medical training at Bastyr University, the premier medical school for natural health.  He practices naturopathic medicine here in Washington state, where he has his own clinic.  He’s seen 1,000’s of patients, and has helped me personally from balancing my hormones, helping me choose the right foods, and supplementing my body correctly.  His wife is also a naturopath, which is just so cool!

So why bring on a Naturopathic Physician?  Well, so many reasons.  As I said earlier, there is so much misinformation out there.  I wanted the truth, from someone who not only has experience treating 1,000’s of patients, but also knows the inner workings of the body.  Someone who has certifications, and not just a huge following on Instagram.  Can I just say how compassionate Dr. Matt is too?  I’ve never met someone as compassionate, and understanding as him.  He truly wants to serve his patients and help them.  I’m so honored that he is willing to share his precious time with us to help educate us, and further spread the message of real health.

The podcast will drop every Monday and will cover a variety of topics.  Everything from how to properly detox, what’s really “healthy” food, all about gluten, what stress does to our bodies/ways to eliminate it and so much more!  They’ll be anywhere from 30-45 minutes in length.

I wanted to share a brief personal story of how Dr. Matt helped my husband and I conceive.  I haven’t shared this before but I know sometimes when we share our own struggles, it usually ends up being encouragement to others.  My husband and I started trying to conceive in January of 2013.  To be honest, I didn’t even think twice about getting pregnant.  I just thought it would happen.  I was healthy and active, should be easy right?  I mean you do the deed, and a couple weeks later you take a pregnancy test, and you see those magical pink lines.  Unfortunately, my fairytale conception story didn’t happen.  Instead of looking at two pink lines at the end of my cycle, I was greeted by one negative.  Month after month this was the scene.  It became so discouraging.  I remember we kept hearing of friends who were pregnant, which was one of the hardest things.  I know God put a desire inside of women for children, and when that’s not fulfilled it can feel so hopeless.  I remember just crying to my husband every month.  My hopes would rise, and then get dashed every pregnancy test.  I finally went to Dr. Matt 8 months in and was like what’s wrong with me?  Through various tests, he figured out my hormones were off, and I wasn’t ovulating.  He put me on a natural supplement and the next month I conceived my little love Finley.  I cannot begin to tell you how amazing it felt to finally see two pink lines!  I cried happy tears all over again.  I’m so thankful for Dr. Matt and his wisdom.  He didn’t stick me on some weird meds, or tell me I was hopeless, but looked at my body as a whole.
