Why Choose Natural And Organic Bedding?

Natural and organic bedding is just part of creating a non toxic and healthier sleep environment. Here are just a few reasons I have chosen to swap out my conventional bedding.

  • Health Benefits- Choosing organic bedding means that there hasn’t been exposure toxic chemicals, thus reducing your toxic load. Most natural fibers are also more breathable than synthetic fibers. This makes it easier to regulate your temperature and not get too hot while sleeping- which is definitely important to me! Some natural fibers will also repel dust mites, mold, and fungus. While this is ideal for all of us, it is especially helpful to those with allergies and sensitives.
  • Environmental Benefits– Whenever organic farming practices are involved, this means less toxins being released into our environment. There is also less water usage when it comes to organic cotton farming, for example. Overall, there is often a decreased carbon footprint!

What To Look For In Natural And Organic Bedding

I love seeing 3rd party certifications when buying products that claim to be natural or organic. I know that the claims being made by the brand are accurate. Here are a few things I look for when choosing natural and organic bedding:

  • Look for bedding that is certified organic by the GOTS – Global Organic Textile Standard.  For more info. on GOTS click here. This standard ensures the product is made without any toxic chemicals and that at least 90% of fibers are organic.  Also, no child or slave labor.  It’s peace of mind when buying the sheets if you see this label.  It means the sheets were made using pure and clean standards.
  • Avoid sheets or blankets that say “Wrinkle Resistant”, “Easy Care”, or “Permanent Press.”  These words indicate that formaldehyde resin was used in the process and it will NOT rinse out.
  • BE AWARE- just because a sheet set says “organic cotton” does not mean they’re certified organic.  It may indicate the cotton was grown organically but after that the fabric was processed with toxic chemicals. If a price seems to good to be true, this may be what’s happening
  • Look for Oeko- Tex Certified Sheets.  These sheets may not be grown organically but they are tested for unhealthy chemicals in the final product.  These often tend to be a little less expensive and easier to find. For more on Oeko- Tex Certification click here.

Best Natural And Organic Bedding

I am sharing the bedding that I use in my home currently. I have been able to test out a wide variety of bedding over the years, and these are the standouts that have worked the best for my family!

Best Bed Sheets

Parachute is my go to brand for bed sheets!

Parachute Sateen or Percale Sheets (in the summer)

We got these as a gift and have loved them!  To this day they’re still our favorite sheets- my hubs agrees.  They aren’t technically organic, however, they are OEKO-TEX certified.  They keep my hubs and I cool and we both are hot sleepers.  They have held up well in the wash too.  No balling up! Check out more organic cotton sheet options here!

Best Pillows

These have been my hubs and my favorite natural pillow for years.  They work so well!  They can easily be customized with the zipper feature too. Check out more organic pillow options here!

Best Pillowcase

Blissy Silk Pillowcase
A silk pillowcase is so good for the hair and skin!

Blissy Silk Pillowcase

This is hands down my hubs and I favorite pillowcase.  It keeps us cool, less wrinkles and protects my hair. Check out my full review here!

Best Duvet

White Lotus Home Wool Comforter folded
Love a washable wool comforter option!

White Lotus Home Washable Wool Duvet (use code GGG for 20% off)

This Washable Duvet is my newest find and I’m loving it!  It works so well at keeping my husband and I cool at night.  It’s not heavy, and is easy to throw in the washer and we have a king bed.  I really love being able to wash my duvet!  Makes my room feel so much cleaner. Check out my full review here!

Best Duvet Cover

Parachute Sateen Duvet Cover

I received this as a gift, otherwise I would have been drawn more to the Percale set, since both my hubs and I sleep hotter.  However, we have loved using this and it’s still our favorite to this day.  It doesn’t feel scratchy and keeps us cool, despite being the sateen finish.

Best Organic Blankets

Boll and Branch 100% Organic Cotton Blankets

These blankets are so nice.  They hold up so well, I’ve washed them over and over again and they still look so good.  They don’t get you too hot and are great curled up on the couch.  I love that they’re 100% organic cotton! We have them in 3 colors.

Furniture

West Elm

I have so many pieces from West Elm that we’ve bought over the years and they’ve all held up great.  They are more sustainable, not always perfect but definitely keep it in mind and they’re more timeless too.  From our Mid-Century Bed Frame to a end table, pouf, dining room table and chairs- I’ve been happy with our purchases from them./s

Mattresses

My Green Mattress and Naturepedic

We have a Naturepedic, and my kids and our guest bed is a My Green Mattress.  Both companies are outstanding and have no complaints.  My Green Mattress is more budget friendly, compared to Naturepedic.

Check out my review of Naturepedic here!
