Up And Coming Natural Beauty Brands

So excited for this post featuring up and coming natural beauty brands!  As a seasoned natural beauty blogger, I can spot a new natural beauty brand fairly quickly.  It’s been 10 years since I swapped my conventional beauty products for new ones.  Since then I’ve really been able to see what makes a product unique and special.  Recently, I’ve found 3 new natural beauty brands that have really caught my attention.  They’re all a little different and their products speak for themselves.  I wanted to showcase these new brands and hear a little behind the scenes from their founders of what made them decide to delve into the world of natural beauty and more.  Plus, share my reviews of their products of course.  I think you’re going to love getting to know these up and coming natural beauty brands and their products they have to offer!

Up And Coming Natural Beauty Brands

Alpyn Beauty Review

These beauties have taken up permanent residence in my skincare routine!

Alpyn Beauty

I have loved getting to know this brand from the products to the maker.  I first tried their Survival Serum and thought wow, I need to try more.  It left my skin glowing with an overall brightness.  So then I tried their PlantGenius Melt Moisturizer and yet again was so impressed by how it performed.  My skin was left hydrated and not greasy feeling.  It it heavy enough to moisturize but light enough to wear during the day time or over your favorite facial oil.  Your skin feels silky.  I also have since fallen hard for their Line- Filling Eye Balm.  This eye balm is so unique.  It looks similar to a cream but it’s not.  It is lighter in texture and soaks seamlessly into the skin.  I pat it on with my ring finger- the finger with the least amount of muscles, so less chance of pulling the delicate eye area.  It brightens, hydrates and de-puffs.  Not too mention, the long term benefits of faded fine lines- yes I’ll take it!  I use this morning and night and have no plans of stopping- addicted.

I love how this brand truly takes wildcraft to the next level. If you are unfamiliar with the term wildcrafting, I am sharing an exert from Alpyn Beauty’s Site on what true wildcrafting means.

Wildcrafting (sometimes known as foraging) is the practice of harvesting plants from their natural, or “wild” habitat, primarily for food or medicinal purposes.  -Alpyn Beauty

Alpyn Beauty uses wildcraft ingredients from Jackson Hole Wyoming where the formulas are created.  These plants withstand so much to survive the harsh climate changes.  From sub zero temperatures, to the scorching heat, these plants have learned how to protect and thrive.  Alpyn Beauty then takes these precious plants and uses their superpowers in their formulas to create skincare magic.  Just as the plants protected themselves from the elements, so they do on the skin.  These plant actives are what Alpyn Beauty likes to call their PlantGenius.  Ingredients that have stood the test of time and are consistent at being resilient in the face of the wild.  The ingredient complex of PlantGenius include, wild arnica, wild chamomile, borage, calendula, and sage.  These ingredients are next level when it comes to delivering skincare results.

Alpyn Beauty also hand-cultivates their PlantGenious ingredient complex.  They describe hand-cultivating so well on their site.

Hand-cultivating is the act of caring for or raising plants individually by hand, rather than machine.

As you can see Alpyn Beauty takes natural beauty to new heights with their attention to every detail of the formulation process.  This in turn creates products that are truly special.  I can’t help but geek out a little when I use their products knowing the amount of attention and thought that went into every step.  And you thought you were just using a moisturizer…

Interview With Founder Kendra:

1. What made you decide to start Alpyn Beauty?

It was actually not planned at all! I had spent 20 years working at prestige skincare brands in New York. In 2015, we moved our family from Manhattan to Jackson Hole to get away from the stress & toxins of the city.  I quickly realized there was nowhere to buy prestige skincare in Jackson Hole, so I opened my own beauty stores.
I quickly noticed my clients were dissatisfied and not seeing results with everything that I was offering in the store. The climate in the mountains is so severe, nothing was bringing their skin the relief it needed. One day, I was sitting in my backyard looking at the wild, hydrated, juicy plants in the mountains and started wondering, how has the natural flora evolved to survive (and thrive) in a place that was wreaking havoc on the skin, what is in this self-adopting juice? When I discovered that skincare ingredients were growing naturally all around me, I began studying wildcrafting and the rest all just happened from there.

2. What can people expect from your products?  Is there a theme,
special ingredient, ritual?

We are the wildcrafted brand. Wildcrafting is the practice of harvesting plants from their natural, or wild, habitat. When done sustainably and with
respect, only the fruit, flowers or branches are carefully removed, and the living plant is left healthy and intact. As a brand we believe in PlantGenius –
which are the Fresh Mountain Actives that we sustainably harvest from the mountains of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They are in every product. We then combine our potent wild actives with the industry’s latest, and most trusted, breakthrough ingredients—from Bakuchiol to Melatonin—to effectively, and gently, address skin concerns and the signs of aging. We use real botanicals to deliver real results.

3. What is your favorite product from the line?

I love all the babies the same, however, the survival serum has a special place in my heart. It really works- plus it’s pink and sparkly! I can see it on the skin of my clients when I’m in a yoga class and in the grocery store. I know exactly who’s wearing it- their skin has this ethereal illumination/glow.  I can spot it on them from across the room. I got the idea when I was looking at the glistening sunlit crystals on the surface of the snow. It made everything look so smooth and even- I wanted to bottle that brightening & resurfacing phenomenon and I think we got pretty close.

4. I was excited to see Bakuchiol in some of your formulas, what
made you want to include it in your formulations?

I’m so glad to see that bakuchiol is finally having its moment in the sun!  I stumbled upon it when I was pregnant and breastfeeding and was told I couldn’t use retinol. I spent many years working with skincare brands that produced clinical products containing retinol. While retinol has so many amazing benefits, the bottom line is that it’s not for everyone. Bakuchiol on the other hand is a plant-derived ingredient that has been clinically proven to have similar results- but it comes directly from the Earth! A win/win. When I started using the ingredient, I was shocked that my skin looked as good (if not better!) as it did when I was using retinol, but I wasn’t
experiencing any of the negative side effects.

5. Speaking of skincare ingredients, what is your favorite ingredient to
use in products and why?

Anything that grows naturally from the Earth (which is how we wildcraft, without the help of a farmer) is my favorite ingredient! We are always on the hunt for new actives that are growing deep in the forests and valleys of Jackson Hole, and are excited to see what changes they can bring to the skin.

6. What does your skincare routine currently look like?

How long do you have? Seriously though, I think I have over 200 products in my bathroom right now. I try everything. I am always online reading
reviews and researching what people are talking about. I think over the years my husband has become accustomed to that fact that one drawer in
the bathroom is his, and the other dozen or so are always mine. But he doesn’t mind, because I think I’ve turned him into a product junkie too by
now. It’s just seeped in via osmosis, and I’m happy to share! Brands I am intro right now are Westman Atelier, Tower 28, Innersense and my Ellis
Brooklyn fragrance.

7. What are you currently reading(book), listening to (podcast/book)and watching (show/documentary)?

I wish I had more time for books and TV. I am watching the Michael Jordan series with my husband called The Last Dance and I found it incredibly motivational. I hike each morning and wouldn’t get through the steep climb without my Fat Mascara or Goop podcasts.

8. Best piece of advice you have ever received?

You have to be an advocate for what you believe in. I spent so many years in my early career being nice, polite and agreeable, but that is changing as I get older.
Whether you are a mother advocating for you child or a brand founder looking out for your brand – don’t leave the outcome up to somebody else.  Speak up and fight for what you need, in a respectful way of course!

9. You currently have 5(standout) products, can we expect more from
your line in the future?

Yes, stay tuned!!! We have a big one coming out in October 2020. I just approved the formula and I scrape the bottom of the jar every night when I apply it. I can’t give it all away, but I will give a two-word clue and that is “Wild Huckleberries.”  🙂

10. If you could tell my readers one thing when it comes to clean
beauty, what would it be?

Clean doesn’t mean “wimpy.” Just because a formula is natural and eco-friendly, doesn’t mean that it can’t deliver hard hitting clinical, visible results.  I was shocked at the benefits I saw when I switched my regimen from clinical to natural, even though I was hesitant to make the switch at first.

Wellnesse Review

New favorite natural toothpaste alert! This whitening toothpaste from Wellnesse is so good.

Wellnesse

If you’ve been in the natural scene or world for any length of time then you’ve heard of Wellness Mama. Katie from Wellness Mama started her blog over a decade ago and has since become a respected source for all things natural living.  I remember when I first started transitioning my life over to a natural lifestyle and reading Katie’s blog posts.  I still do!  It was an easy choice to add Wellnesse into the up and coming natural beauty brands list.  Now she has an amazing podcast.  If you haven’t checked it out be sure too here- I learn so much listening!  The information she shares and passion in which she shares it is contagious.  It is one of my very favorites and one I listen to weekly.  She has a way of sharing information that might seem overwhelming or complicated and breaking it down into practical tips.

When I first learned Katie had launched a new natural beauty line I was so excited!  If you’ve perused her website at all then you’ve come across her many DIY recipes for natural beauty.  She’s taken years of testing out different formulations and turned them into a company called Wellnesse that you can now buy and not have to make!  I love the simplistic approach Wellnesse takes with their natural beauty products.  They are real products, with real ingredients.  They really stand on 3 core principles when it comes to their products:

  • The Highest Ratings Possible- Each formulation is curated in such a way to make sure they rate as clean as they can on the EWG.

  • Only What’s Best For Your Body- Each formula is made to exclude all the toxins you would find in conventional brands.

  • Better Practices Every Step Of The Way- They are committed to building a brand that is both sustainable and supports minority-owned businesses.

I love how important ingredients are to Wellnesse as well.  On their website they list out their ingredients, what they do, a description, their rating on the EWG and what product it can be found in.  I absolutely love this transparency!  Often I look up a product’s ingredients and can hardly find them, if at all on a website.  This ingredient information really is so beneficial for a consumer looking to understand why ingredients are used.

I also wanted to applaud Wellnesse for creating products that are both effective but also budget friendly.  Often the two don’t mix when natural and budget come together.  However, Wellnesse has found a way to bridge the gap and create products that are both.  You can get a shampoo and conditioner for $30!  Or a bundle, where you get a shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste for $40.  In a world where natural shampoos typically range from $25- $35 this is a welcome change of pace.  Makes switching to natural products less of a stretch and more affordable for everyone.

*Another bonus is they offer free returns and exchanges if you’re not completely satisfied with your product within 30 days.  A huge plus as buying products online can seem challenging at times.  This really ensures you love your products.

So far I’ve tried their Whitening toothpaste, Cleansing Shampoo and Nourishing Conditioner.  Their toothpaste is a newfound favorite of mine!  I love that it is glycerin free.  Glycerin has been known to coat teeth and prevent teeth from absorbing important minerals.  It keeps my mouth feeling minty fresh.  I also have been using their cleansing shampoo and nourishing conditioner.  The shampoo gets my hair feeling so clean and has a great lather to it.  The nourishing conditioner is light for my fine thin hair and doesn’t weigh it down at all.  The conditioner is very light and doesn’t give it a ton of hydration.  It works for my hair since it’s fine, thin and currently most of it isn’t colored.  If you have thicker hair, or color treated hair that needs more moisture I would recommend the enriching conditioner as it would be more hydrating.

Wellnesse Product Review

Wellnesse Cleansing Shampoo and Nourishing Conditioner.

Interview With Founder- Katie Wells From Wellnessmama.com

1. What made you decide to start Wellnesse?

I realized that even some of my most naturally minded friends were still using a few conventional personal care products because they were more effective. I’d been making homemade alternatives for years and knew that we could create products that avoided all the problematic ingredients and that were more effective than their chemical-laden counterparts.

2. What can people expect from your products? Is there a theme, special ingredient, intention?

All Wellnesse products use only EWG safe ingredients so you can feel safe using them on the whole family. We also go beyond just non-toxic and safe to create products that are packed with beneficial ingredients to nourish the body from the outside in.

3. What is your favorite product from the line?
I am really proud of all of our products, but our Whitening Toothpaste is my favorite. I spent years perfecting this recipe to support the oral microbiome, provide the minerals our teeth need to be healthy and white, and to be free of all harmful ingredients. Ever read a regular toothpaste label? It warns that it should be kept out of reach of children and to call the poison control center if ingested. I wasn’t comfortable letting my kids use a product like that twice a day, and knew we could do better!

4. I was excited to see you started with hair products and toothpaste, what made you decide to start there?

Those were the biggest offenders in most bathrooms, and most people use those products daily. I realized that if we could get people to switch to natural products in those areas, we’d reduce their exposure to many chemicals by as much as 80%!

5. Having been an avid blog reader of yours for years I know how important transparency is for you. How did this translate over into Wellnesse when creating the formulas and listing the ingredients?

I wanted to be just as radically transparent with Wellnesse. In an industry where ingredients are often green-washed or hidden, it was important to us to go out of our way to list every ingredient and explain it’s purpose and benefit. We use only EWG safe ingredients and go beyond just safe to include ingredients that are beneficial to the body in various ways.

6. Can you share about your packaging when it comes to your formulas?

We’re continually working to innovate our packaging. Unfortunately, there aren’t any perfect options yet (though I’m hopeful that we will see many more packing choices within the next couple of years). For now, we use sustainable sugarcane packaging that is compostable in commercial compost facilities, and we’re testing several other sustainable options.

7. What are you currently reading(book), listening to(podcast/book) and watching(show/documentary)?

Reading: Algorithms to Live By, Indistractable, and The Conscious Parent
Listening: Caffeine by Michael Pollan (audiobook),
Watching: Recently watched The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (series) and Fantastic Fungi (Documentary).

8. Best piece of advice you have ever received?

Two things come to mind… the first from a favorite teacher in high school who always told us to “question everything constantly, including and especially me.” This advice has served me well in life and business, and I often say this same thing to my kids.  Another great piece of advice is the idea found in stoic works about focusing only on what we can control and not stressing about things that we can’t.

A few of my favorite quotes related to this:
“All you need are these: certainty of judgment in the present moment; action for the common good in the present moment; and an attitude of gratitude in the present moment for anything that comes your way.”
— Marcus Aurelius
“The chief task in life is simply this: to identify and separate matters so that I can say clearly to myself with are externals, not under my control, and which have to do with the choice I control. Where then do I look for good and evil? Not to uncontrollable externals, but within myself to the choices that are my own.” — Epictetus
“Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation.” – Viktor Frankl

9. You currently have 6 products, can we expect more from your line in the future?

Yes! We will be releasing a volumizing dry shampoo soon and have locked in formulas for our next few products that I am so excited to get to share within the next year!

10. If you could tell my readers one thing when it comes to clean beauty, what would it be?

Simple is almost always better! We’ve been told for years that we need all kinds of fancy and expensive products to keep our skin and hair healthy, when often a few simple products and ingredients will work just as well. Often the essential things for beauty aren’t even product related at all: hydration, sleep, time in nature, and meaningful relationships. And I always love to come back to the Audrey Hepburn quote: “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”

Beuti Skincare Review

Can’t stop using these two products by at Beuti Skincare- The Sleep Elixir and The Pomegranate Glow Enzyme Cleanser.

Beuti Skincare

I was introduced to Beauti Skincare a couple months back and didn’t think much until I started to use their Beauty Sleep Elixir Oil product and was wowed.  Then I did a deep dive into the brand to discover more and had to share an official Beuti Skincare review with you.  I then learned that Princess Kate loves the Beauty Sleep Elixir too- not surprised!  I then tried there Pomegranate 3-in-1 Enzyme Cleanser and was once again sold on another one of their products. I am still using both products daily!  I use the Enzyme Cleanser in the morning.  I love how it really wakes up my skin and doesn’t feel stripping.  Yet, it doesn’t feel super oily right before I apply my makeup.

I also use their Beauty Sleep Elixir product and it’s almost halfway gone.  Definitely says something as a clean beauty blogger.  The Sleep Elixir feels rich on the skin but not overly oily.  It sinks right into my complexion and leaves it feeling dewy and with a glow.  I’ve never read so many rave reviews about an oil- for real!  It has over 305 on Credo Beauty’s website.  It’s definitely a fan favorite.  I apply it at night after cleansing and toning and in the morning after cleansing and toning.  It’s made especially for sensitive skin too.  You will love it!  Check it out here.

Beuti Skincare is based in the U.K. and is founded by an aesthetician who wanted to create a skincare line that was pure and free from fillers, and irritants.  She wanted a line that would be great for sensitive skin and also wouldn’t break the bank.  I love the list of superpower ingredients on their website.  Listing out why they use them in their concoctions. It’s no wonder the Sleep Elixir is so powerful.  I also learned what inflammaging is from Beuti Skincare.

Inflammaging is a process that is caused by chronic inflammation and this is not just the redness and irritation we see on the surface of
the skin but the underlying damage we do not see. It is this very underlying inflammation that causes collagen and elastin degredation
and a breakdown of the skin’s barrier function.  -Beauti Skincare

We can repair inflammaging by using antioxidants, and anti-inflammatories on our skin that will help to restore the skin.  One more reason to snag their Sleep Elixir and let it get to work on your skin!
