Smoothies For Glowing Skin

Excited to share my smoothies for glowing skin with you!  I often get asked a lot about products for the skin, but do you know that there are so many other ways to support your skin then just what you put on it?  Products are great and I love them- clearly!  But there are other ways to level up your skincare other than just using products.  One of the best ways I know how is through the foods you eat!  YES- food affects your skin so much.  I often have people ask me what my secret is to glowing skin.  My answer?  Real, nutrient dense food!  Think about it, when you eat real nutrient dense food you are giving your body living food.  When you eat living food, your skin is going to look alive.  When you’re eating a lot of packaged dead food your skin is not going to be getting all those living nutrients.

Sharing my favorite smoothie recipes for glowing skin.

Today I wanted to share some smoothies for glowing skin.  Smoothies are one of the easiest ways to get a variety of nutrients in your diet, yet don’t take a ton of time.  They give you living ingredients that help to promote vibrant glowing skin.  You don’t need complicated ingredients but just simple nutrient dense foods to make an ordinary smoothie power packed.

Often people think of smoothies as sugar bombs, and they can definitely be that.  However, they don’t have to be!  My smoothie recipes use a combination of real food ingredients and a combination of fat, fiber, veggies and protein to give your body a balanced smoothie.  Instead of having a huge sugar spike post smoothie, you will feel satisfied and not on a blood sugar roller coaster.  Plus, you’ll be giving your skin all the skin loving ingredients for a glowing complexion!

I want to share some real food ingredients that give your skin all the nutrients it needs to really get it glowing!

Smoothies

Real food ingredients that nourish your body form the inside out!

Smoothie Ingredients For Glowing Skin:

  • Chia Seeds- These mighty little seeds are filled with omega-3 fatty acids which have been known to help with acne, help with sun damaged skin, hydrate skin, lower inflammation and increase overall suppleness.  Not only that, they’re also loaded with fiber which helps to control blood sugar, helps with digestion, feeds your good gut bacteria and keeps you relgular if you know what I mean. 🙂  When your body is able to release the toxins through consistent bowel movements your skin will show it through glowing skin!  Plus, they’re full of antioxidants that help clean up free radical damage.  That’s why I call these seeds mighty seeds!
  • Flaxseeds- Another great source of fiber and from what I just said on chia seeds, super important for helping to detox the body.  Also, a great source of Omega-3’s, also a great source of antioxidants. Antioxidants are so important for overall skin health.  They help to fight free radicals.  Free radicals occur from the environment such as sun exposure, pollution, and chemicals. They can really take a toll on your skin.  Antioxidants come in and neutralize the free radicals.
  • Hemp Seeds- Promotes healthy skin cell growth, helps lower skin inflammation and helps with digestive health.  Also, rich in GLA’s which are the building blocks for prostaglandins- hormone like chemicals, that help with body temperature, muscles and inflammation.
  • Sweet Potato- High in beta carotene which is rich in Vitamin A.  Vitamin A is a big antioxidant!  Also, magnesium and iron are found in sweet potatoes, as well as Vitamin E which has been known to help heal scars, hydrate the skin, improve skin texture and fight free radical damage.
  • Spinach- Also rich in Vitamin A.  It contains Vitamin C too which helps with collagen synthesis- ever heard of eating greens for glowing skin?  It’s a real thing!
  • Kale- Full of antioxidants like Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K and Quercetin.  A great detoxifier, kale is perfect for helping to keep skin clear and vibrant, by pushing out inflammatory offenders. It also helps to improve cell turnover and increase overall skin hydration.
  • Avocado- This fruit is known for being full of healthy fats.  These nourish the skin and give lasting plumpness and hydration.  They are also full of antioxidants like Vitamin E and Glutathione.
  • Coconut Oil- Full of antioxidants and healthy fats.  It also helps reduce inflammation, and moisturize the skin.
  • Nut & Seed Butters- These are full of healthy fats, minerals like selenium that helps protect your skin, and help to regulate blood sugar spikes when eaten with fruits or high sugar foods.
  • Blueberries- Full of antioxidants that help to repair the skin.  Also, help with texture of the skin, and give a more even skin tone.  They help with broken capillaries too.  These are definitely a superfood for your skin!
  • Strawberries- Full of Vitamin C, and an antioxidant called ellagic acid that helps to prevent collagen from breaking down- hello!  They also help to clear out excessive oil.  So your skin doesn’t build up extra sebum.  Also, great for lightening hyperpigmentation on the skin.
  • Banana- Rich source of Vitamins A, C, and potassium.

As you can see by the ingredient list, these real foods help provide the skin antioxidants, healthy fats, Omega’s and minerals to really nourish your body from the inside out.  When it comes to smoothies, it’s important to keep your smoothies full of the four components I listed above, fat, fiber, protein and veggies.  Let me explain why having these 4 are so important.

Love using the Blendtec GO blender for whipping up smoothies quickly and easily!

Fat- Healthy fats keep you full longer and help to balance blood sugar overall.  It’s important to have fats with fruit so your blood sugar doesn’t spike quickly.

Fiber- This is also important for helping to regulate blood sugar, it also helps with digestion.

Protein- This is going to help keep you full longer and is going to make the smoothie a complete meal instead of a high carb snack.  Adding a protein powder to your smoothie is essential.

My favorite clean protein powder is Activ Whey Protein Powder.  The protein powder comes in a vanilla or chocolate.  Instead of cow’s whey, it’s a goat’s whey.  It makes smoothies taste SO good!  I always add 1 serving.

*Protein Tip- Always blend all your smoothie ingredients first and then add your protein last.  If you add it with all the other ingredients and blend it for a while it will expand, causing the smoothie to get huge and may cause you to have an upset stomach.  Throw it in after everything is blended so you only have to blend it for a few seconds.

Below I’m going to share some of my favorite smoothies for glowing skin with you!  These are tried and true and are so simple. The best way to find a smoothie that you love is to experiment.  The more you can try different foods, the more you’re going to see which smoothies you love and keep you satisfied.  That is one of the complaints I get the most from people, they tell me they’re hungry a couple hours later after drinking a smoothie.  I get it.  I used to be too!  The key is making sure you’re including enough fat and protein to help keep you feeling full.  If you find you’re still hungry after a smoothie, add more protein next time, or more fat.  The recipes below are just simple smoothie recipes to get you started.

Just remember to always include the ratio of fat, fiber, veggies and protein to really make your smoothie a balanced meal.

Love my Blendtec Blender Designer Series 725!

I love my Blendtec Blender!  I’ve been using the Blendtec Designer Series Blender 725 for years and love it!  I use it every single day.  They came out with a GO jar over a year ago and I can’t stop using it.  It’s my go to for making smoothies quickly and easily.  The GO is a on the go blender cup that not only blends everything but then let’s you take it with you.  You fill the jar with all your smoothie ingredients, put it on the Blendtec base and then hit the smoothie button.  It blends it all up and you don’t have to sit there with your hand on the blender- SO easy!  Then you can take the lid off the smoothie cup and take it with you wherever you go.  GENIUS.

I also have the Blendtec Twister Jar and the full size Blender Jar too.  I love using these for larger batched smoothies too and just about everything else you can think of.  I can’t recommend investing in a high speed blender enough!  It’s a kitchen gadget you will use for years and years.  Use Coupon Code: GURLGONEGREEN for 25% off.

Smoothies For Glowing Skin

All these smoothies are made using fat, fiber, veggies and protein.  I like to use frozen veggies and fruit because it makes my smoothie consistency thicker- which I love!  But you don’t need to use frozen.  If you find your smoothie is hard to blend just add more liquid.
