Best Natural Eyelash Growth Serum

Long lashes and full brows are definitely what we are all looking for. But whether it be genetics, overplucking in our younger years or even loss of hair due to health reasons, we may need a little help getting them. And, I have found the BEST eyelash serum that actually works!

After my fourth baby I seemed to suddenly not have the same lashes that I had before – almost like they had fallen out. I have tested out eyelash growth products in the past, but knew I was going to need something different to get the best results as I hadn’t gotten great results with anything I had used thus far. And, after testing out this new product I can’t wait to share my results because it is the best of the best lash serums!

What active ingredients will help hair grow?

The best eyelash growth serums will have some amazing natural ingredients in them that will promote hair growth and strength while avoiding any unwanted side effects. Your natural lashes will look their very best! Plus, no one wants to be applying toxic ingredients so close to their eyes. Here are some key ingredients to be on the lookout for:

Biotin (Vitamin B 7): A deficiency in this vitamin has been associated with hair loss, brittle nails, and skin problems. There is lacking evidence to support the supplementation of this vitamin to treat these symptoms. However, many do state that the application of this ingredient will strengthen hair follicles which allows hair to grow longer. Ultimately, there isn’t enough research to conclude if this ingredient truly helps or not.

Peptides: These are strings of amino acids (the building blocks of protein). The difference is that a peptide isn’t composed of as many amino acids as a protein would be, making it smaller in size. There are studies showing recently discovered peptides that do in fact promote hair growth, so this is definitely one ingredient to keep in mind when selecting your eyelash growth serum.

Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic acid is well known for its skincare benefits. But, it also has benefits for hair. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, which means it retains and preserves moisture. This is great for plumping up our skin, but also it will reduce dryness and brittleness if applied to hair which will result in healthier lashes.

Panthenol: This is another B vitamin, more specifically a derivative of B5. When it comes to hair health, it also has a humectant effect, meaning it will draw in moisture. There is even a study here that shows that dexpanthenol promotes hair growth.

Ceramides: These are a class of fatty acids called lipids that play a role in both the skin barrier and hair cuticle. They have been shown in this study to stimulate hair growth.

Essential Fatty Acids: These are fatty acids that your body can’t produce so you need to either consume them or apply them topically. This study here looked at one specific EFA and it did in fact help improve hair growth.

Ultimately, there is limited research on this topic. While there are some small studies on some of these ingredients, there is definitely a need for more information. It is also interesting to note that some of the ingredients promote increased health of the hair while others actually seem to promote hair health – a reason to look for a combination of these ingredients.

With the limited research available, it’s also important to read other customer reviews to see how they responded to a product before you invest in it.

Love the applicator on the Maya Chia Growth Serum!

Best Lash Growth Serum

After testing several eyelash growth serums my favorite is Maya Chia’s Power Fol Multi-Correctional Eyelash and Eyebrow Serum.

Pros

  • Clean- It’s completely clean so you don’t have to worry about putting on sketchy chemicals near your eye area.
  • Multi-Use- You can not only use it for your eyelashes, but also your eyebrows.
  • More Product- The actual tube is almost double the size of most eyelash serums so you’re getting more product overall.
  • Results- You can start to see results within 90 days if not sooner.
  • Vegan- The formula is vegan.
  • Mascara Applicator- The mascara brush applicator really makes it easy to apply the formula compared to a wand brush like so many other eyelash serums.

Cons

  • Patience- You do have to be patient to see results, it doesn’t happen overnight. The good news is that results are sooner than you might think.
  • Price- While it’s still cheaper than getting eyelash extensions, it is expensive.

Review

Like I said above, I initially got the product right after I had my fourth baby. All of a sudden I felt like I had no eyelashes. I had read that hair loss that includes the eyelashes and/or brows can sometimes happen after giving birth. Needless to say, I wanted them back! I had heard about the Maya Chia Power Fol Multi-Correctional Eyelash and Eyebrow Serum and knew I needed to check it out. I was consistently using it for three months and it totally brought my eyelashes back! I was so impressed. I really started to notice a difference in my lash hair after two months of consistent use. When I say consistent use, I mean every single night I would apply this on my eyelashes before going to bed. It was just part of my skincare routine. I noticed the length and fullness returned. I’ve literally tried so many eyelash growth serums in the past but nothing changed. So when I had a noticeable difference using this, I was excited. I could tell several weeks in advance that something was happening. This really helped me to be consistent with it. One container lasted me about 3 months of consistent use (1x per day). I ended up using it for 6 months (2 containers worth) and have since stopped. My lashes have maintained since I stopped, but I have read that it may depend on why you have hair loss if you will need to continue using the serum on an on-going basis. My reason was post partum hair loss so obviously I won’t need to continue.

So happy to have my lashes back!

Customer Reviews

Overall customer reviews online are very positive as well! Many raved about getting longer lashes and fuller brows. Plus, like myself, there were many that also saw results in just a couple of weeks but full results took longer. I did read about one person getting itchy skin where the product had been applied. Something to be aware of if you have sensitive eyes or skin.

Clinical Studies

In a 3rd party 8-week study the following results were reported:

90.9% of the participants reported significant growth and 85% reporting that their lashes looked better after applying mascara. There were no participants that experienced eye irritation.

Honorable Mention Eyelash Growth Serums

Province Apothecary Full Brow Serum This oil-based serum that uses this combination of oils to help facilitate growth. I used this and didn’t notice any major change in my brows. I also didn’t like how it made my lashes feel. Too oily.

Plume Lash and Brow Enhancing SerumI tried this lash serum several years ago. I did notice some length but it wasn’t a big difference. I also didn’t like the application. It uses a wand applicator instead of a mascara wand. I much prefer the mascara wand.

Does Castor Oil Really Work?

I have tried using organic castor oil before for lash growth and while I saw a slight difference it wasn’t anything dramatic at all. I’ve read it depends on the type of castor oil you use. Some castor oils can be better than others. I did it as a DIY eyelash growth serum and used cold pressed castor oil. I would use a mascara wand to apply it on my lashes and then use a q-tip for my upper lash line. I didn’t love how it made my lashes oily feeling. From what I read some people had more success using Jamaican Black Castor Oil.

Conclusion: What is the best eyelash serum?

Maya Chia’s Power Fol Multi-Correctional Eyelash and Eyebrow Serum is safe and effective – making it the best! The results speak for themselves – it not only gives me length, but fuller lashes too. My eyelashes went from barely there to full lashes. It also never irritated my eyes. And, you get more product overall as well!
