MATE The Label is a sustainable clothing brand that has really stuck out to me. They have a mission to ‘provide people everywhere with essentials that are clean from seed to skin.’ I can get behind that! I have tested out MANY of their different clothing options and I am sharing all my thoughts below.

All About MATE The Label
Kayti Carr is the founder and CEO of MATE, a brand that makes all the essentials when it comes to clothing.
The very beginnings of MATE began 9 years ago while Kayti was working at a private equity firm. She quickly realized that this was not what she wanted long term. Rather, she wanted to break free of corporate America by starting her own business.
She first began reselling vintage clothing. She quickly knew this was not going to be a long term solution so she decided she wanted to create her own clothing line, which was the birth of MATE the Label.
The brand began with the use of conventional materials and continued on a very small scale while Kayti was still working her full time job.
In 2017, Kayti felt a pull to change how she was doing things in order to really contribute to the world. And that’s when she started learning about sustainability, the toxins involved in the clothing industry and even ethical production methods. She knew she needed to pivot her business model.

That’s when she began removing synthetics from her line, using organic cotton and even dyes that were ‘low impact.’ And now, just a handful of years later, they continue to make the cleanest product possible from ‘seed to skin.’
Based in Los Angeles, CA with all of their factories being located within 15 miles of their main headquarters, MATE uses a variety of better materials – for both you and the environment. This includes:
- Organic Cotton Jersey
- Linen
- TENCEL Lyocel
- TENCEL Rib
- Organic Thermal
- Organic Terry
- Organic Stretch
- Organic Fleece
- Organic Knit
MATE has so much to offer. Their products range of intimates, active wear, sleep wear and clothing. And, I have tried out a wide variety of their products.
MATE The Label Review
I have tried out a variety of MATE’s pieces and am sharing all my thoughts below!
Organic Fleece Oversized Sweatshirt

Fabric: 100% organic cotton
Cost: $128
Customer Reviews: There are 245+ reviews on their website, with customers giving this sweatshirt a 4.9/5 stars.
Review
Is it ok to be obsessed with a sweatshirt? This sweatshirt has won my heart when it comes to clothes. I have two of them in different colors and I wear them constantly. It’s perfect oversized sweatshirt. It’s not fitted but has a nice silhouette and give so it’s not hugging the parts of your body you don’t want it too. It washes well and has held up great. Perfect for layering over a t-shirt or under a jacket. It is great for over leggings too or slightly tucked in the front. I’m already deciding what color I want next! I have a medium in both and I could get a small but I like a little bigger fit for a sweatshirt. I’m also 5’7″.
Organic Stretch Biker Short

Fabric: 92% organic cotton and 8% spandex
Cost: $58
Customer Reviews: There are 330+ reviews on their website, with customers giving the biker shorts a 4.7/5 stars.
Review
These are a great biker short for working out in and running errands. I would recommend wearing a longer sweatshirt or shirt with these since they are slightly see through if they’re stretched enough. I like wearing my Mate The Label Organic Fleece Oversized Sweatshirt over them. Wearing size medium and they run true to size.
Organic Stretch Sports Bra

Fabric: 92% organic cotton and 8% spandex
Cost: $48
Customer Reviews: There are 500+ reviews on their website, with customers giving this sports bra a 4.8/5 stars.
Review
This is a great sports bra or just lounge bra. I have a size medium. I would have even gotten a large. I don’t like tight bras at all and this one was a little snugger than I normally like. I love the material and would reorder again, but next time a size up.
Organic Cotton Classic Tee

Fabric: 100% Organic Cotton Jersey
Cost: $48
Customer Reviews: There are 425+ reviews on their website, with customers giving this classic tee a 4.8/5 stars.
Review
These t-shirts are another item that I can’t get enough of! They fit so well and go with everything. I have them in several colors. Great tucked in or left out. Dressed up or down. I have them in a size medium. I like my t-shirts a little larger and not tight and so a medium is perfect. Can’t recommend them enough!
Organic Cotton Layering Tank

Fabric: 100% Organic Cotton Jersey
Cost: $46
Customer Reviews: There are 260+ reviews on their website, with customers giving this layering tank a 4.7/5 stars.
Review
I know I am going to start sounding like a broken record but this is another item I can’t get enough of. The layering tank is so easy to wear. From wearing it underneath clothes, or wearing it by itself- it looks good with so many things. I even love wearing it to bed. I like that it’s not heavy either, so easy to tuck into jeans or skirts. I find myself looking for this to layer so often, it’s the perfect fit and material. Another fave! Wearing size medium but will probably get a small next time. It was a little larger and I’m not very large on top.
Organic Fleece Cardigan

Fabric: 100% Organic Cotton
Cost: $168
Customer Reviews: There are 4 reviews on their website, with customers giving this cardigan a 4.5/5 stars.
Review
I saw this cardigan when it first came out and instantly knew I needed it! The fit is so great. It’s cozy and warm. So easy to throw on and go. It can be dressed up or down too which is nice. I am wearing a small. It definitely runs larger, so I would size down if you’re between sizes. You can also belt it too to add a little more sophistication. Another winner!
Organic Stretch Midi Legging

Fabric: 92% Organic Cotton and 8% spandex
Cost: $78
Customer Reviews: There are 310+ reviews on their website, with customers giving these legging a 4.4/5 stars.
Review
I have their leggings in two colors and wear them a ton! I am wearing a size medium and they are true to size. I would say they are even a little smaller than normal and tighter fitting. Not bad, but just a little snugger than other brands I have. I like that they don’t go all the way to your ankle but have a more 7/8 length to them. They are a little see through if stretched enough, similar to the biker short, so if you are going out and about, make sure and wear a longer shirt or sweatshirt. The see through isn’t bad but just want to mention it. I love these aren’t made mostly of cotton and not plastic like most leggings!
Final Thoughts on MATE the Label
I am MATE the Label‘s biggest fan! I can’t wait to see the products they come out with in the future! Not only do they source incredibly but they create practical, chic clothing. Sometimes it’s hard to find both when it comes to organic clothing, but not with MATE- they deliver! I’ll be sure to share more of their clothing as my collection grows.
