Best Natural Mineral Sunscreens

Best Natural Mineral Sunscreens

Sharing the best natural mineral sunscreens-why I made the switch from a chemical sunscreen and you should too!

Can’t you just feel it in the air…summer is so close!  With summer comes lots of time spent outside, which equals lots of sun exposure.  I love the sun, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized the importance of what a good sunscreen can do.  Not only for blocking harmful rays, but also for anti-aging benefits.  Since a lot of people don’t know the difference between chemical sunscreens and natural ones, I’m going to break it down.  Check yourself into sunscreen school…

Ok, chemical sunscreens contain these big long words.  They can have one or a combination of these six ingredients: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and octinoxate.  Instead of blocking the suns rays, like natural sunscreens do, they absorb the rays, and turn them into heat, which are then transferred from skin to the air.  These chemicals are known hormone disruptors.  The scary fact about these chemicals is the high absorption rate, compared to other ingredients.  Hormone disruptors with high absorption rates is not something you want coupled together.  Chemical sunscreens can also produce free radicals, which cause skin damage, irritation and aging.  Can you say NO THANK YOU!

So what’s the alternative??  Natural sunscreens also known as physical or mineral sunscreens.  These sunscreens either use titanium dioxide, zinc oxide or a combination of both.  They are natural minerals that are ground up.  Mineral sunscreens reflect the sun’s rays instead of absorb them, and they offer broad spectrum protection.  Not only that, but they start working the moment you apply them to your skin, unlike chemical sunscreens where you have to wait 20 minutes.  Who wants to wait anyways?!  Plus, these aren’t going to irritate your skin compared to chemical sunscreens.

Now that you know all the deets on sunscreen, here are best natural mineral sunscreen picks!

I also did a video on the best natural mineral sunscreens- even sharing a few new faves!

Check out the video here or below!

This is the newest addition to my best natural mineral sunscreen post.  I was so excited to try it!  I had only  heard rave reviews about the formula.  I love that it comes in a spray form first of all.  Making it so easy to use.  Literally, you know if you’re a mom how crucial this is!  My kids are practically in the pool before I’m able to even say the word sunscreen.  It’s mineral based using non-nano zinc oxide and antioxidant-rich California Poppy.  What’s cool about this formula is that it shields you from not only UVA and UVB but also Blue Light rays- something that most sunscreens don’t.  We are learning so much about Blue Light rays and I’m so excited to see Beautycounter pioneering the movement to block them.  The propellant is also powered by air so no harmful chemicals are being released as you spray too.  They offer this in a travel size too!  Oh and if you’re not into sprays no worries, they also have a lotion an stick form.  Check them out here!

Beautycounter Sunscreen review

This sunscreen not only blocks UVA and UVB but also blue light!

All Good-

I’ve been using All Good sunscreens for a year and it’s my favorite non-toxic sunscreen!  Everything about it, from ease of application to, great sun protection- it checks all the boxes and then some.  Plus, the ingredients are clean!  Often it’s easy to hit two of the boxes but not all of them.  Not with All Good sunscreen!  Not only is it organic, but non-gmo, gluten free, vegan and coral reef friendly.  It uses the mineral zinc oxide to block the suns rays.  It’s also water and sweat resistant up to 80 min. too.  But the real kicker- it comes in a clean spray! Yes, you heard me right.  There is a spray sunscreen that is clean.  Instead of using toxic chemicals for the propellant like most spray sunscreens they use a combination of jojoba and nitrogen(something that is already in the atmosphere).  The ease of use with a spray can’t be beat- it’s amazing!  The sprays come in a kid’s version that has an spf of 30 and adult version with spf 30.  I’ve used them both and can say they work so well.  They also carry sunscreen in tubes, in butter sticks with spf 50, in tins with spf 50, in lip balm form and even in large family sizes.  If you’ve been searching for a clean, effective sunscreen- this is it.  It takes the cake in every area!  Check out All Good sunscreen here!

Raw Elements-

This is a new line of sunscreen that I just discovered and I’m loving! It definitely had to go in my best natural mineral sunscreen lineup.  They’re the cleanest sunscreen I’ve found to date.  Made with only a handful of ingredients, all of which I can pronounce easily.  Their sunscreens use non-nano mineral zinc oxide as the sun protectant.  It’s also organic, non-gmo, Leaping Bunny Certified and Natural Products Association Certified.  They are safe for all ages, water resistant and never run or sting the eyes.  Most of their sunscreens offer a broad spectrum spf of 30.  They’re also reef safe- I mean does it get any better when it comes to sunscreens?  They even offer eco packaging!  I sampled 4 of their products.

Tinted Face Moisturizer-

Love this sunscreen!  If you’ve used physical sunscreen in the past then you know what I’m talking about when I say it usually leaves a white hue on your skin.  Unfortunately it’s not very attractive!  This is totally different.  It’s tinted with a bronze/tan hue and makes your skin look like it’s glowing-no white hue!  I especially loved this for my face.  It was as if I had on a tinted moisturizer and didn’t even need to apply any face makeup.  It comes in an eco friendly tin-I couldn’t get enough of this!  Snag your Tinted Face Moisturizer here!

Eco Formula 30+ Lotion Tin-

This formula also comes in an eco tin and is great for all over body.  It does leave behind a more white hue but when rubbed in well it’s not as noticeable.  I love how moisturizing it felt on my skin.  It’s also very water resistant-up to 80 minutes before you need to reapply.  Overall, I was impressed with the performance of this sunscreen.  I didn’t burn and my skin didn’t feel sticky.  A great sunscreen for kids and adults!  Get yours here!

Eco Stick 30+

Love that they offer the Eco Formula in a stick form!  So easy to travel with and use.  You can even apply the sunscreen stick under water-how cool?!  You can apply it straight to your skin for more of an opaque look or rub it in after.  I love the size of it for trips.  I found it perfect for when you’re at the beach and you have sand on your hands but want to reapply your sunscreen.  Now you can but without the mess!  Get your Eco Stick here!

Lip Rescue SPF 30-

This little lip balm is perfect for protecting your lips from the sun.  I love knowing that my lips are protected too.  Often it’s hard to find sunscreen in lip balms and if they have it in there, it’s not mineral based.  The skin on your lips is so fragile and needs an spf to protect them.  This is just the ticket!  Get your Lip Rescue here!

DeVita Solar Body Moisturizer-

This is the perfect all over body mineral sunscreen.  It just contains zinc oxide, offering both UVA and UVB, an SPF of 30+ and is of course non-nano.  It doesn’t make you look like a ghost!  I love that this is fragrance free as well.  It feels more like a lotion, than an oily sunscreen.  They also state on their website that they’re safe for the “gluten sensitive.”  It also gets two thumbs up from me for it’s large size.  Sometimes on vacation I’ll need to bring a couple because the size is so small, but DeVita’s is a large 7 oz. tube! Devita Solar Protective Moisturizer SPF 30

Coola Naturals Baby SPF 50 Unscented Moisturizer –

I recently came across Coola’s Mineral Baby Sunscreen and was so excited to try it. Once I did I had to add it to the best natural mineral sunscreens.  Coola offers a lot of sunscreens but they’re not all mineral based-so make sure you check that they’re chemical free.  This Mineral Baby Sunscreen is made with a combination of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide for the sun protectant-both non-nan0.  It also offers a broad spectrum spf of 50-so you can rest assured your babe is protected.  It’s organic and water resistant as well.  I loved how easy it rubbed into my skin.  The tube size is perfect for travel too.  It didn’t feel greasy but like a good hydrating lotion.  Snag your tube here!

Adorable Baby Sunscreen (Babies/Kids)-

After having a baby I was especially picky with what I was putting on her skin.  Since babie’s skin can be even more sensitive and absorbent.  However, I found a winner with this one!  The sunscreen feels like a thick shea butter on the skin. It just contains zinc oxide.  Some studies have found titanium dioxide to be a skin irritant in some people.  Again, it offers both UVA and UVB and an SPF 30+.  It does say it’s water resistant (no sunscreen is “waterproof”) but I still apply often, and is non-nano.  The ingredients are so short in this little tube, something I love.  I literally can pronounce each one.  I feel so good rubbing this on my girl’s and knowing it actually works!  Adorable Baby All Natural Sunscreen

Sun Prep-

This product is amazing for the face.  It has a broad spectrum SPF of 30.  It’s perfect for in the summer or winter before makeup.  It doesn’t leave your skin with a white hue at all.  It feels like a nice day time moisturizer going on.  What really makes it standout?  It acts like a primer for my makeup!  It fills in all the lines and helps my makeup literally glide on and stay put.  The ingredient list is stellar-aloe vera gel being the first ingredient, say hello to hydration.  I really can’t say enough about this product.  It is non-nano too.  Get your Sun Prep here!

W3ll People BB Cream-

This is a newer product within the last year for W3ll People.  I like that it offers SPF30, some great protection, yet it doesn’t feel too heavy.  Great for summer, but also if you live somewhere that’s constantly sunny and want sun protection in your foundation on the daily.  I really appreciate that it is a little thicker and offers some decent coverage, more than a typical bb cream.  It feels thicker and creamier- gives a dewy look.   Get your BB Cream here!

Erbaviva Sunscreen SPF 30

This is a great sunscreen for adults or for kids.  It has a subtle lavender scent.  It goes on white as first but then fades and almost looks like you didn’t put anything on.  Something I can get behind! I love that it only has a handful of ingredients and doesn’t contain any of the bad stuff.  Easy to throw in a beach bag too since it works for both adults and kids! Grab your Erbaviva Sunscreen here!

Kari Gran’s Three Sixty Five SPF 28 Broad Spectrum Sunscreen-

This stuff feels like silk on the face.  It is perfect before applying your makeup.  It’s meant to be worn 365 days of the year.  My foundation literally glides on.  It really acts like a primer as well.  Filling in lines and creating an even surface.  I was so excited when I heard they were coming out with a sunscreen, and couldn’t be more thrilled with the results!  I’m in love with the ingredients too.  Non-nano zinc oxide, with non-gmo red raspberry seed oil are the sun protectants and there is only a handful of ingredients after that.  I couldn’t be more excited to finally find a sunscreen with such quality ingredients and performance!  Grab your Kari Gran facial sunscreen here!

Suntegrity “5 in 1” Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen-Tinted-

This BB cream is so good!  It definitely hits all the marks for a great tinted sunscreen.  From superb coverage, hydration and good tint.  Plus, it offers a broad spectrum spf of 30.  It’s made with non-nano zinc oxide.  It also comes in four colors which makes it easy to find one that matches your skin tone.  Trust me, you’ll love it!  Grab yours here!

I’ve sampled this before but not enough to really have a good idea of how it would be.  My mom absolutely loves this tinted moisturizer!  She likes it because she says it doesn’t show her fine lines as much.  A lot of foundations she always complains the product settles in here fine lines.  This gives you some sun protection too with an SPF of 30.  It comes in 4 different shades.  I chose the Sand.  It feels really good on the skin- definitely hydrating.  It offers light coverage but does give an overall polished look.  A great option for spring and summer days but also for days when you’re not going anywhere and you just want some light coverage. Get your Juice Beauty Tinted Mineral Moisturizer here

Marie Veronique Everyday Coverage Tinted Sunscreen with SPF 30-

Last but certainly not least is this tinted sunscreen that I’m also loving.  It is a SPF 30 full spectrum UVA+UVB, non-nano zinc oxide sunscreen.  I love that it has a tint to it-no white residue!  It goes on a like a day time moisturizer and isn’t heavy at all.  It sinks right into my skin.  The perfect base pre-foundation, or on it’s own before heading to the beach.  Even my hubs likes it!  It’s also rated #1 in EWG 2014/2015 Sunscreen Guide. Grab your bottle here!

Live Botanical Review

Sharing some of my new favorites from Live Botanical.

Live Botanical

I first discovered Live Botanical at IBE Dallas.  I had the pleasure of meeting the maker and founder Carolyn.  It was so great to connect and hear her enthusiasm for herbs.  Sometimes people merely create a line but I could instantly tell this was Carolyn’s passion.  Although she is an herbalist, much of how Carolyn sees skincare is based on her 15+ years in the technology field as an analyst.  It’s always so fascinating to see how people get their start in skincare. Osmia Organics Bar Soap Review

One product that can be found on Beauty Heroe’s Essential page is this luxe bar soap by Osmia Organics.

Beauty Heroes

Beauty Heroes was founded by Jeannie Jarnot.  A longtime spa director herself and healthy beauty expert.  I had the pleasure of meeting Jeannie last year at IBE, and she is truly one of the sweetest people.  Beauty Heroes is a monthly beauty service that selects only the best clean beauty brands.  Each month you can find one to two full size truly heroic products in each box.  The products typically range from skincare to haircare products.  However, every 3 months Beauty Heroes offers a makeup box as well that’s optional for members or non-members.  I absolutely love their “Use Less, Love More” philosophy.  By only getting one or two products, you allow yourself to truly experience them.  Of course you can trust their picks, as they are strict on their integrity standards.  What’s not to love about this whole concept?  As a Beauty Heroes Ambassador, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of such a movement. Kosmatology Review

This hand soap takes the cake when it comes to getting your hands squeaky clean without the chemicals!

Kosmatology’s founder is Janis, a pharmacist who had a daughter with eczema.  As a pharmacist, she knew the steroid cream prescribed for her daughter had side effects, and she wasn’t comfortable living with that.  As a result, she started experimenting with different oil combinations, and it wasn’t long before people were asking her to make products for their families.  How cool is that?!  One thing I love about Kosmatology is their commitment to organic, pure ingredients.  There’s no fluff or toxins in these products.  Also, there is something for the whole family.  From bug repellant, to hand sanitizer, even face wash, they are your one stop shop.  Check out my full review on Kosmatology here!

OSEA review

OSEA not only has clean ingredients but effective products!

If you’re not familiar with OSEA allow me to fill you in on this natural skincare line.  This brand is truly unique.  I was so intrigued by the founder Jenefer’s story of how she started it.  She was inspired by her grandmother who credits the ocean to healing her.  She had been on bedrest after a severe leg injury.  Her grandmother recalls having a dream about the sea and the next day went for a swim.  A few weeks later her grandmother was healed!  Jenefer went to her roots when creating OSEA.  From what she learned from her grandmother of the healing properties of the ocean and her knowledge, she chose seaweed as the base of her skincare line.  Seaweed contains powerful minerals and ingredients to help restore and nourish the skin.  Check out my full OSEA review here!

Best Natural Beauty Concealers

Best Natural Beauty Concealers

Ok, you asked for this best natural beauty concealers post!  I’ve been working on this post for a while, excited to finally share.  I get this question several times a week.

What are the best natural beauty concealers?

I get it, I once was there too.  The thing is everyone looks for different things in their concealer.  Some want an under eye concealer and some want to hide imperfections.

And yes, under eye concealers are a lot different than a concealer you want to use to cover your zit- just sayin’.  I mean you can use a lot of under eye concealers on your face too but you probably don’t want to use a lot of your heavy concealers under your eyes.

So I’m outlining my absolute favorites in natural beauty.  What they’re best at when concealing and how I use them.

Consider yourself checked into concealer school!  Let’s dive into the best natural beauty concealers.

Concealer Tips:

  • You can use most concealers as an eye primer too!  Just apply this on top of your eyelid before eye shadow.  It helps to make your eyeshadow pop, plus gives your eyeshadow something to adhere to so it stands out.
  • Use a concealer to highlight your face.  Apply concealer where you would naturally use a highlighter.
  • Use on the inner corners of your eyes to make them appear brighter and pop.  Also, helps to make them look less tired.
  • If you’re goal is to cover under eye dark circles then make an upside down triangle under your eye area with your concealer.  This will help brighten your whole face.
  • Always apply your foundation first, then your concealer.
  • Highlight under your brows with concealer.  This helps bring your eye area up- it’s an instant eye lift!
  • Orange or pink concealer cancels out dark circles.
  • If using your finger to apply concealer, use your ring finger which has the least amount of muscles.
  • Green concealer is for blemishes and red spots.
  • Yellow concealer is for evening out skin tone.
  • If you’re concealer tends to look cakey, blot with a tissue under the eye area to soak up excess oil.
  • Apply a translucent powder after you apply under eye concealer to help set it and take away oil.  This also helps your eye area to look more awake and not tired or drab.
  • If you mess up on your eyeliner, use some concealer to hide mistakes.
  • Use concealer to help prevent bleeding lipstick.
  • Use concealer to help cancel out redness before applying a lipstick.  This helps you to achieve the true lipstick color.
  • Want to create you’re own tinted moisturizer?  Mix your concealer with some lotion and rub together!
  • Your concealer for your under eye area should be one shade lighter than your foundation.  But not too light where it looks drastically different.

I also recorded a video on how to achieve flawless concealer.  I show you how I apply mine and what I do to avoid creasing and make it last all day. Check out the video here!

Different Types Of Concealers:

There are different types of concealers and of course they are meant for different things.  I’m going to share all the different formulas in hopes that it will help guide you on which one to get.

  • Pencil Concealer- Helps to conceal blemishes, and good for on the go since it’s solid and less mess. Also, good for highlighting the face. Pencils offer a thicker consistency.  They are similar to a cream concealer but in pencil form.
  • Cream Concealer- The consistency of a cream concealer is thicker, gives more of a matte finish and is good for helping to conceal blemishes, tattoos and deep pigmentation.
  • Liquid Concealer- This type is great for under the eye area and for blending into the skin. Great for evening skin tone.
  • Pen Concealer With Brush Tip- This is more of a sheer formula and great for under the eye area.

Concealers For Skin Type:

Not all concealers work for every skin type.  I’m going to outline below which I would recommend depending on age, and skin type.

  • Dry Skin- I have dry skin and definitely lean towards a liquid concealer because of the dewiness it adds and the hydration.  It doesn’t look cakey or heavy on my skin like a more opaque formula.  That being said I do prefer a little more opaqueness and creamy texture for covering hyperpigmentation. My favorites for dry skin are, Kosas Revealer, Ilia True Skin Serum Concealer, Fitglow  Conceal + for hyperpigmentation and blemishes, and Clove and Hallow Concealer.  RMS Beauty would be great too.
  • Combination Skin- Your skin might feel pretty normal overall but at times get a little oily in the t-zone. That being considered, I would recommend Fitglow Conceal +, Ilia True Skin Serum Concealer, Clove and Hallow Concealer, and Hynt Beauty Concealer.  I think the Kosas Revealer would work too, but you would probably want to set it with a translucent powder to cut down any shine.
  • Oily Skin- If you have oily skin I would recommend Ilia’s True Skin Serum Concealer.  It has really low, if any comedogenic ingredients for most people and still dries to a demi-matte so it’s not adding a ton of shine.  I also like Hynt Beauty, since it dries to a matte texture as well.  Fitglow Conceal + is also a great option since it dries to a matte finish.
  • Mature Skin- If you have mature skin I would recommend first to make sure you use a moisturizer under the eye area.  You don’t want it to be dry.  Also, choose a concealer that is hydrating and lightweight.  If you choose to heavy of a concealer you’re going to get a crepey/cakey look.  Which is only going to accentuate the fine lines.  I really like W3ll People’s Concealer super hydrating and not too heavy.  I also would recommend RMS Beauty Un Coverup– this turns very creamy as you work with it on your fingers, very dewy looking. Beautycounter’s Concealer is another great one for under the eye area.  I also would recommend Kosas Revealer, since it’s going to add brightness and give hydration.  Last tip, use a primer under the eye area too.  This is going to fill in any fine lines and really help keep your concealer from moving around and getting into the fine lines.  Make sure you set your foundation with a translucent powder.  Finally don’t cake on your products and don’t apply a lot of concealer near crow’s feet.  Most people don’t have discoloration there, and the concealer tends to get into the fine lines easier there.  Stick to applying concealer where you have the bulk of your discoloration which is closer to your eye area. Less is more as you age.

Ok, I’m not going to make you wait any longer- here are the best natural beauty concealers!

Best Natural Beauty Concealers:

natural beauty concealers

Fitglow Concealer is one of my holy grails in clean beauty!

Fitglow Beauty Conceal +-

Concealer Type- Fitglow is a liquid concealer but I would also say it’s more of a cream consistency too since it feels a little thicker.  A little of both.

Packaging- It comes in a tube form with a wand.

Formula- The formula is more of a heavier formula for a wand concealer but not as heavy as a cream concealer.  It doesn’t feel as wet as some wand concealers are. It dries quickly which I love.  Making it really great for hyperpigmentation and covering redness.

How Does It Wear- The longevity of this concealer is excellent.  It really lasts the whole day for me, especially when set with a translucent power or mineral powder.

What Is It Good For- This concealer is great for covering blemishes and redness.  It really does such a good job of staying in place and not moving.  It’s especially good for covering blemishes, redness or hyperpigmentation.  I use this on my cheeks for hyperpigmentation, and under my nose for redness.  I also like it for highlighting the face too.

Comedogenic/Non-Comedogenic- This concealer could be a comedogenic concealer for some since it contains the ingredient beeswax.  Beeswax basically blocks off all oxygen to your pores so your skin can’t breathe.  Some people might be fine with it but others may find it to cause acne flare ups.

Shades- Comes in 9 shades.  I wear the color 3.5.

Review- This is my go to concealer for my cheeks and covering blemishes and hyperpigmentation.  I always reach for it first because it does such a stellar job and lasts. Definitely one of the best natural beauty concealers.  It’s so easy to blend into the skin. I don’t like it as much for under eyes, it’s too thick for me and ends up looking cakey. Get it here!

RMS Beauty Un CoverUp has been a staple in my beauty bag for 10 years!

RMS Beauty Concealer-

Concealer Type- This is a cream concealer.

Packaging- It comes in a frosted glass jar.

Formula- The formula is lightweight in that it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin, yet it is thick enough to provide some awesome coverage when it comes to covering hyperpigmentation and blemishes.  It warms up in your hand and skin as you apply it.

How Does It Wear- It wears well.  It doesn’t look as good by the end of the day, but I think that’s what makes this kind of beautiful too.  It’s more of that worn in, effortless look.  I will still look like I have some great coverage but it’s going to have faded a little.  Very natural look overall.

What Is It Good For- This concealer is great for covering redness or hyperpigmentation.  It really offers great coverage but doesn’t look cakey or matte.  Very dewy skin look overall.

Comedogenic/Non-Comedogenic- This is definitely not non-comedogenic.  It has coconut oil as the base, which is a very high comedogenic rating. I would steer clear of this if you find your pores get easily clogged or you have acne.

Shades- Comes in 16 shades.  I wear the color 22.

Vegan- No

Review- This was the first natural beauty concealer I used 10 years ago.  It’s been a long favorite of mine.  It melts so easily into the skin, which I love giving you such a natural look, yet it still offers some coverage.  It feels very smooth and a bit oily.  Not bad oily but it is made of coconut oil so it does get a little oily feeling as you work with it in your hands.  This is great under eyes too, as it looks smooth and seamless.  I would just be sure to set it with a translucent powder as well.  This is really like a foundation, concealer in one.  Often I’ll just wear this and not wear any foundation.  I just apply starting in my t-zone area and then blend out for a really natural look.  It makes my skin feel pulled together but not overdone.  Get it here!

I’ve fallen hard for Clove and Hallow’s Concealer!

Clove and Hallow Concealer-

Concealer Type- This is a liquid concealer.

Packaging- It comes in a wand form.

Formula- The formula is creamy and dewy feeling.  It reminds me of Fitglow’s Concealer but it’s not as thick, a little wetter formula.  But then once you apply it to your skin is dries matte.

How Does It Wear- The concealer lasts all day and really looks great after a day’s wear.

What Is It Good For- This is great for covering blemishes, hyperpigmentation, and redness.  I like how it offers good coverage but isn’t too heavy.  I do like it under the eyes as well.  It’s creamy enough that it doesn’t look cakey under the eye area.  It’s great for building coverage too.

Comedogenic/Non-Comedogenic- This is definitely not non-comedogenic.  It has coconut oil, which is a very high comedogenic rating. I would steer clear of this if you find your pores get easily clogged or you have acne.

Shades- Comes in 10 shades.  I wear the color 03.

Vegan- It is vegan.

Review- This concealer really performs so well!  I find myself reaching for it among all my concealers because it’s so versatile and can be used under the eyes and for redness and hyperpigmentation.  It really lasts too.  The only thing I don’t love about it is the packaging.  For some reason some of the product will come out of the top each time I use it.  When you put the wand back in the tube, it’s almost like it pushes the product down and then when you take it out, more product comes with it.  That would be my only drawback.  Other than that I really love this concealer!  Get it here!

Beautycounter Concealer-

This is a new fave for under the eyes!  I don’t like it for covering blemishes or redness on the face, it’s too wet of a formula.  But it works great for under the eye area because it is a little wetter of a formula.  I can blend it in really well and it covers dark circles and discoloration under the eyes.  It comes in a pen/brush formula.  You push the cap on the bottom and the formula comes out easily on this paint brush like applicator.  You then apply that to the eye area and pat the formula in with your fingers.  It brightens up your eye but doesn’t look cakey!  I also dust a little translucent powder on top of the concealer to help set it.  Get it here!

Concealer Type- This is a pen concealer with brush tip.

Packaging- It comes in a wand form, with a click applicator.

Formula- The formula is lightweight and creamy.  A little on the wet side.

How Does It Wear- It lasts well, but I do find it looks a little worn by the end of the day.

What Is It Good For- This is the perfect under eye concealer.  It really offers some light coverage for under the eyes and a little dewiness. It’s too light for covering blemishes.

Comedogenic/Non-Comedogenic- It’s not comedogenic. It has coconut oil in it.

Shades- Comes in 6 shades.  I wear the color light.

Vegan- It is vegan.

Review- I really love using this concealer for under my eyes.  It’s lightweight so it doesn’t look cakey or too heavy.  It blends really well into the skin and adds some brightness too.  I also like how it feels a little dewy.  I don’t use this for covering blemishes or anything else.  It’s too sheer, but I really do love it for a great under eye concealer.  Get it here!

Natural beauty concealers

Hynt Beauty Concealer-

Concealer Type- This is a cream concealer.

Packaging- It comes in a glass jar.

Formula- The formula is solid in the jar but when you touch it the product instantly melts onto your fingers making it easy to spread and use. It is opaque more, even though it does feel lightweight.

How Does It Wear- The concealer lasts all day and really looks great after a day’s wear

What Is It Good For- This is great for covering blemishes, hyperpigmentation, and redness.  I like how it offers good coverage but isn’t too heavy.  I don’t like it under the eyes.  I find it looks a little cakey and heavy.  This is the best concealer for really getting some good coverage on the blemishes.  You can really build the coverage as you go.

Comedogenic/Non-Comedogenic- This is definitely not non-comedogenic.  It has coconut oil, which is a very high comedogenic rating.

Shades- Comes in 7 shades.  I wear the color medium.

Vegan- It is vegan.

Review- This concealer really is the holy grail when it comes to coverage.  If theres something you want to cover it does a good job.  You can even apply it, let it dry for 5 minutes, then go back and reapply the product for even more coverage.  I’ve even read where people use it to cover tattoos!  Get it here!

This is a great under eye concealer.

W3ll People-

Concealer Type- This is a liquid concealer.

Packaging- It comes in a small tube that you squirt out.

Formula- The formula is very dewy and slightly whipped texture to it.  Even though it feels dewy it does set in the skin well.

How Does It Wear- It’s not as long as others.  By the end of the day I can see some has worn off but it still looks nice.  I notice if I set it, it really helps give it some longevity since it’s lightweight and tends to fade a little.

What Is It Good For- I really love this concealer for under the eyes but not for blemishes or redness. It has a texture that really brightens the under eye area and doesn’t feel heavy.  I find it’s a little to sheer to offer the coverage I want.

Comedogenic/Non-Comedogenic- It has coconut oil in it.  It has coconut oil, which is a very high comedogenic rating.

Shades- Comes in 6 shades.  I wear the color 2.

Vegan- It is not vegan.

Review- Overall, this is a great under eye concealer as I’ve mentioned.  I just squirt the formula out and then use my fingers to tap under my eyes.  It helps to even out discoloration under the eye area and perk up tired eyes.  Of course I add a little translucent powder to the under eye area too to set it.  You don’t have too but I find I’ll get creasing if I don’t.  The only thing I don’t love about it, is it tends to separate sometimes I’ve noticed in the tube.  So you get a little oil coming out separate from the pigment. But other than that it’s a great under eye concealer.  Get it here!

Natural beauty concealers

One of my favorite all around natural beauty concealers!

Ilia True Skin Serum Concealer

Concealer Type- This is a liquid concealer.

Packaging- It comes in liquid form.

Formula- The formula feels creamy to the touch, and silky smooth.  Blends really nice in the skin.

How Does It Wear- Great!  It looks so good on the skin even at night.  Really impressed with the longevity.

What Is It Good For- I love this concealer for everything!  It does well underneath my eyes, and covering redness and hyperpigmentation.  It’s the perfect all around medium coverage concealer.

Comedogenic/Non-Comedogenic- It is low in comedogenic ingredients.  I would recommend it for those who might be sensitive to comedogenic ingredients.  Do a patch test first to see how your skin reacts.

Shades- Comes in 12 shades.  I wear the color SC3.

Vegan- It is vegan.

Review- I really dig this concealer!  It hits all the marks for me.  It’s lightweight feeling, yet still offers the coverage I crave in a concealer and I love that it works for both my under eye area and hyperpigmentation and redness.  It blends so nicely into the skin and doesn’t feel heavy. Get it here!

This concealer is great for quickly highlighting the face.

PYT Pencil Concealer

Concealer Type- This is a pencil concealer.

Packaging- It comes in a pencil form that needs to be turned when the tip gets dull. It also has a brush on the end for helping to blend the formula.

Formula- The formula feels more opaque and matte.

How Does It Wear- It’s ok on wear.  I felt like it faded quickly and wasn’t as natural looking as I had hoped it would be.

What Is It Good For- This is a great concealer for highlighting the face because of it’s pencil application.  It also is good for blemishes as you can apply it right on them.  I don’t like it for under the eyes as it’s too opaque and not dewy enough.

Comedogenic/Non-Comedogenic- It does have comedogenic ingredients in it.

Shades- Comes in 11 shades.  I wear the color light/warm.

Vegan- It is not vegan

Review- I wouldn’t pick this concealer up regularly.  I can see where it would be good for highlighting and contouring since it’s a pencil and easy to quickly blend it.  Also, if you have minimal hyperpigmentation, it would work to conceal.  However, I wouldn’t use this under the eye area.  Get it here!

This new Kosas Revealer concealer takes the cake for brightening and great coverage.

Kosas Revealer Concealer

Concealer Type- This is a liquid concealer.

Packaging- It comes in a tube with a wand.

Formula- The formula feels creamy to the touch, and silky smooth.  Blends really nice in the skin.

How Does It Wear- It wears so well.  My eyes still seemed bright and my hyperpigmentation was still covered.

What Is It Good For- This is great for covering blemishes and redness, plus it’s dewy enough for covering my under eye area.

Comedogenic/Non-Comedogenic- It does have comedogenic ingredients in it.

Shades- Comes in 16 shades.  I wear the color 3.5.

Vegan- It is not vegan.

Review- This concealer gives you an overall brightness to your whole look.  I love that it has caffeine to help de-puff the under eye area and hyaluronic acid to add hydration.  I feel that they really thought through this product when bringing it to market it and nailed it. I keep reaching for this!  I’m excited to add it to the best natural beauty concealers!  Get it here!

Natural Beauty Box Roundup April

Natural Beauty Box Roundup April

The natural beauty box roundup April is live!  Can you believe it’s April?!  I feel like on one hand this year has flown by and on the other hand it feels like it’s been the longest year.  In the midst of Coronavirus right now I hope you all are safe and healthy.  I had polled many readers on Instagram asking if they wanted to have similar content and I received an overwhelmingly yes response- so I’m continuing with all the content I had planned.  I hope it brightens your day and gives something positive for your mind to think on.

Every month I round out the best natural beauty boxes in clean beauty.  This month is exceptionally good!  I have been on the edge of my seat to share this month’s content with you.  So many amazing brands and new ones I haven’t used before.

*Also, be sure to check back as I release my reviews for the boxes as they roll out.  Here are some of the boxes that will be released later in the month:

Beauty Heroes: Mukti Organics

Beauty Heroes April Review

I had never tried Mukti until this box and let’s just say now I want to try all their products!

Ok, I have been itching to share this new brand with you all!  I haven’t tried anything Mukti Organics until this box, but let’s just say these won’t be the last products I try- they’re so good.  The brand Mukti is from Australia and really is a pioneer when it comes to incorporating their native resources into their products.  Their mantra is to be organic, sustainable and ethical in all that they do.  Their formulas are the real deal and don’t contain any unnecessary fillers.  Just potent botanical ingredients that do the work for the skin. I love that their ingredients are third party tested, ensuring that products are in fact eco and meet their strict criteria. They have an advanced extraction method that helps them to preserve the products so they are represented in their most potent state.  They really take it to the next level when it comes to creating something truly special in a skincare brand. I feel like there are two heroic products for this month, even though technically one is a sidekick- read on to see why!

Mukti Hyaluronic Marine Serum- This is the heroic product for the month!  A serum of all serums.  This serum with it’s low molecular weight, absorbs so well into the skin.  It uses the power of hyaluronic acid to plump and hydrate the skin.  Did you know that hyaluronic acid delivers 1000% times it’s weight in water?  So if you’re skin feels dry or thirsty as I like to say- this is your new best friend!  The combination of hyaluronic acid, plus a special extract called Fucoidan that’s derived from Wakame Seaweed, is a one-two punch for preventing wrinkles from forming.  Did your ears just perk up?  Well, listen to this quote taken from Mukti Organics website-

Studies have shown that Fucoidan extract increases the expression of SIRT1 anti-ageing protein and increases moisture retention by up to 30%. The combination of Hyaluronic Acid and Fucoidan extract improves overall skin appearance by 60% in 12 weeks.

I am loving it!  So here’s my experience.  I apply it on my skin after I cleanse and tone.  Then when my skin is just slightly damp still I apply the serum. Then I apply my oil and a cream if I need too.  When I wake up my skin still feels hydrated!! I repeat still feels hydrated.  It really plumps up my skin and provides this barrier to seal moisture in.  I love using it under my makeup too.  It helps to give my skin an overall smooth canvas to apply my foundation.  Such a well made product that works- bottom line!

2-in-1 Resurfacing Exfoliant- The sidekick product this month is this exfoliant that had me basically after the first application but sold me the more I used it.  This has a combination of fruit acids that help loosen and rid the intracellular bonds, while encouraging collagen production.  Then once the fruit acids do their thing, jojoba esters and finely ground bamboo particles remove the dead skin.  I used this in the morning first thing on damp skin.  I rubbed in circular motions.  Then brushed my teeth. Once I was done I rinsed it off.  My skin felt so smooth and radiant!  I used it twice a week.  If you have sensitive skin I would do a patch test first and then see how your skin does.  It smells amazing too!  Like fresh lime juice and it’s this beautiful emerald green.  This has been on repeat in my skincare routine!

I would not wait on this discovery if you’re thinking of snagging it!  It’s a special one and I wouldn’t be surprised if they sell out.  The value is $124 but you can get it for $58.95!  Get the box here!

Boxwalla April Box: Monastery Made

Natural Beauty Box Roundup For April

Another home run box for Boxwalla and a new brand for me!

I feel like a broken record whenever I talk about Boxwalla boxes.  I always want to say the same thing.  How I hadn’t tried the brand, and now I’m sold, blah, blah, blah.  Well, guess what?  It’s a new month and I’m going to say the same thing…sorry not sorry.  I mean they consistently hit it out of the park when it comes to stellar beauty boxes.  I think there’s one fact that may contribute to this- they’re a bi-monthly box.  So you’re only getting it every other month.  Really helps you to savor the products and also gives the box time to curate exceptional experiences for their consumers.

So the April box is a winner for me all around.  I hadn’t tried Monastery before and now I want to try all their offerings…sound familiar?  Ok, well here’s the skinny on this holistic skincare brand.  It was founded by Athena, an esthetician who had practiced for 20 years in her field- side note, she still practices today.  Her skincare line is reminiscent of her summers spent with her grandmother in Greek Cyclades.  Her grandma would create these concoctions of various herbs and oil.  I love hearing how brands come to create their products and what their muses are.  The products in this month’s box are a reflection not only of her grandma but also of all of Athena’s experience as an esthetician. All her products are handmade in San Francisco.

Aloe Hyaluronic Moisture Boost- Do you see a theme with the boxes in general this month?  Hyaluronic acid!  For good reason this ingredient doesn’t play when it comes to delivering some serious hydration to the skin.  It actually has two forms of hyaluronic acid.  One sits on the surface of your skin and moisturizes it while softening, while the other penetrates deeper to help plump the skin.  But it get’s even better.  The hyaluronic acid is formulated with aloe to add even more hydration to the skin!  This basically transforms the skin and creates an overall dewy, hydrated complexion.  I’m obsessed!  I use it at night before my oils or creams and after my cleanser and toner.  I also love applying this right before my makeup to give my skin an overall boost of hydration and a smooth canvas.  This is perfect for the skin all year long- a new staple!

Rose Glycolic Gel- This is an exfoliating serum.  It has a concentration of 10% glycolic acid.  This alpha hydroxy acid has been used for a long time to help with hyperpigmentation and fine lines. The glycolic acid that Athena uses is from sugarcane and papaya.  This combination is then added to rose water to not only exfoliate the skin but also to soften, and brighten the complexion.  I used this at night after cleansing and toning.  I would apply 2 pumps to my skin, then add the Aloe Hyaluronic Moisture Boost and then my oil and cream.  I woke up to brighter, smoother skin.  Friends this product does not mess around.  It is not full strength glycolic but still very effective at a pH of 5.  If you have sensitive skin I would recommend patch testing before use.

The whole look of the products is a 10 in my book too.  The value of the box is $153 but you can get it for $49.95- talk about a steal!  Get the box here!

The Clean Beauty Box: Fresh

The Clean Beauty Box

It’s all about being FRESH in this month’s Clean Beauty Box!

We are seeing two brands in The Clean Beauty Box this month.  The first is a new brand I haven’t tried before.  Dafna’s.  This brand is a combination of Ayurveda and modern biotechnology.  This line does it all from helping your skin detox, renew, repair and uplift.  Their products are made in Spain.  I love how they choose low molecular weight active ingredients so that they really penetrate deep into the skin and do the work.  We are seeing their Recovery Cleanser in the box this month.

The second brand we are seeing is Malaya.  I truly believe in their philosophy of skincare, it’s a whole body approach.  What you put in your body, and on it directly affect each other…I couldn’t agree more.  They use the purest ingredients to reduce toxic exposure, as well as care for the environment.  Not only that, but all their packaging is recyclable and reusable.  Pretty awesome!  Malaya really started when the founder, Katya, had teenage acne growing up.  This could have scarred some people, but with Katya, it drove her on a quest to find out about skincare, the body and how it all works.  What she found was answers and a beautiful natural skincare line today.  Oh and P.S. her skin looks amazing now!  We are seeing their firming eye serum in the box.

Dafna’s Recovery Cleanser- This is a balm to milk cleanser.  It feels so hydrating on the skin, while it removes your makeup and debris from the day.  My skin feels completely hydrated after using.  I start applying it to dry skin and then once I’ve worked the product in, I add a little water to get that milky consistency.  I then rinse some of it off with water, but finish getting the rest of it off with a washcloth.  Skin feels refreshed and balanced after using.

Malaya Firming Eye Serum- This eye serum is filled with ingredients that help to firm and treat the under eye area.  It has collagen stimulating botanical stem cells, along with pea peptides that help to firm the skin.  Plus, green coffee that helps to de-puff and prickly pear that helps to nourish and hydrate the skin.  I’m wondering what this magic little bottle doesn’t do!  I’ve been applying mine morning and night.  I love how it absorbs so quickly into the skin.  It comes in a rollerball form too which I love.  Makes application so smooth.

The value of this box is $120, but you can get it for $41.95! Get it here!
