These new Honest Beauty Liquid Lipsticks are giving me all the feels!

Honest Beauty Liquid Lipstick

This was an easy one to include in my organic beauty products- August roundup!  These are a new product for Honest Beauty.  They are highly pigmented like a lipstick, but go on similar to a gloss and come in a tube form.  They give your lips some nice sheen too.  I love how high impact they look on your lips!  They come in 7 colors and are super hydrating too.  I was really impressed by the longevity as well, they lasted for a good 6 hours on my pout!  And the kicker?  They’re $12.99!!  I mean talk about a steal.  Get them here!

Honest Beauty Mascara

Ok, I still get this question all the time- “What’s your favorite natural mascara?”  I feel like a broken record but it’s Honest Beauty through and through.  Why do I love it so much?  It separates my lashes, gives them volume, and doesn’t smudge on me.  I don’t have raccoon eyes by the end of the night and I get compliments on my lashes all the time- I’m telling you, this mascara doesn’t mess around!  It has a primer on one end and the black pigment on the other.  The primer definitely helps give your lashes some extra volume and length.

I also use this Beautycounter Mattifying Powder to give my lashes an extra boost of vavoom every now and then too.  I just use an eyeshadow brush and apply it right on top of my lashes after I’ve applied a couple coats of mascara.  Then I go back and apply more mascara on top to make them really stand out.  This mascara is only $14.99!  I guess maybe this August clean beauty roundup should also be called best budget clean beauty! Get the mascara here!

W3ll People Nudist Eyeshadow Palettes

These are a new release from W3ll People.  They come in a palette with 5 different eyeshadow colors.  I love that they have matte and shimmer shadows in them.  Sometimes I’m feeling matte and sometimes I want something a little more pumped up.  One palette is violet hued and the other is taupe.  Both equally gorgeous colors!  I definitely am drawn more to the taupe palette.  It has basics for everyday wear or for kicking it up later on. A great palette to  take you from day to night.  PLUS, these palettes are so budget friendly!  You get an entire eyeshadow palette for $25!  I’m definitely hitting it out of the park this month when it comes to going easy on the wallet- your welcome! ūüėČ Use Coupon Code: GURLGONEGREEN for 10% off!  Check out the palettes here!

Antonym Baked Highlighting Blush

I’ve been wearing this blush and loving it!  It’s not a new find but one that I definitely can’t get enough of lately.  It gives the perfect hint of blush color with some slight shimmer.  I’m not talking teenage glitter makeup but a mature glow look.  It’s so pretty even in the package!  I love the color Lily, it’s the perfect punch of color without being too dramatic.  No more dull, lifeless blush!  This will make you glow from the inside out.  Check it out at Pharmaca.com and save 20%!  Get it here!

Some oldie’s but goodies- these two have been taking up residence in my makeup bag lately!

Lily Lolo Pressed Bronzer

This is another oldie but goodie!  First of all it’s pressed, which is nothing short of awesome- who wants to deal with bronzer everywhere.  But it’s also a pretty taupe color and not orange.  I’m partial to the Miami Beach color but it also comes in several other colors too depending on how dark you want to go.  And get this, another budget find!  I know it’s kind of awesome this month for saving a little money.  Check it out here!

Best exfoliator in green beauty- active enzyme exfoliator by Josh Rosebrook!

Josh Rosebrook Active Enzyme Exfoliator

Still my favorite exfoliator. Gets my skin super smooth and clean.  Haven’t found anything else like it.  This exfoliator uses a mechanical exfoliant of walnut shells, and also an enzyme exfoliant. Not only does my skin feel smooth after but it looks brighter!  It is chockfull of plant oils and active honey- a serious treat for the skin.  I‚Äôve tried to pinpoint the smell and I‚Äôve come to the conclusion it smells like black licorice to me-which I love or used too‚Ķhaha.  I apply this to slightly damp skin and then I massage a small nickel size amount all over my face.  I let it set for 15 minutes, I found that’s my sweet spot.  But you can do it up to an hour.  This is another must have!  If you‚Äôve been looking for an exfoliant that leaves your skin feeling smooth but also looking bright-this is it.  Get it here!

 Foot File And Pumice Stone

Ok, this might be random but this is something I use literally every time I shower and I realized I’ve never told you about it!  Especially in the summer my feet can get pretty nasty.  Being outside, and barefoot and just in elements can do a number on the feet.  Before I get in the shower I’ll file down any calluses I have with the foot file and then once I’m in the shower I take the pumice stone and add some soap to it.  Then I scrub the bottom of my feet with the pumice stone.  I’ve found my feet will get rough and dirty and this helps to really smooth things out and keep them looking clean.  I’m obsessed!  If you have feet that could use a little tlc between pedicures this will be your best friend!  Get the foot file here and the pumice stone here!

That sums up my organic beauty products- August edition!  Want to see some of my past favorites from previous months?  Check them out below!

Natural Lipstick Color

Natural Lipstick Color

I’ve got my best natural lipstick color options in honor of National Lipstick Day! ¬†Switching from mainstream lip products to cleaner versions is a big deal! ¬†I mean, don’t get me wrong, you should definitely switch all your makeup over from mainstream products, but the lips are especially important. ¬†Why?? ¬†Well, for starters studies show that women re-apply their lipstick/lip product at least 5 times a day…so that’s a lot of toxins¬† (more…)

The Best Natural Red Lipsticks

The Best Natural Red Lipsticks

A lot of you have asked for a post of the best natural red lipsticks! ¬†I thought what better time to post it then in February- LOVE month! ¬†I’ve got photos of me wearing all my favorite natural red lipsticks below. ¬†Plus, I’m dishing on formula, longevity and all my tips for getting the perfect pout. Let’s just say you’ll be a red lipstick pro by the time you’re finished reading this post!

Tips for application-

  • Always moisture your lips with a lip balm first. ¬†I love Vapour Organic’s Lip Balm. ¬†Who wants their lips to look cracked and dry when they have lipstick on top?!
  • Even out your lips with a lip primer. ¬†I like Gabriel Lip Primer. ¬†This is a must! ¬†No one wants to compete with their natural lip color. ¬†This ensures your lips start out neutral before you apply any lipstick and the true color of the lipstick stands out.
  • Wear a lip liner. ¬†I really love RMS Beauty lip liners or ZuZu Luxe lip liners. ¬†I always opt for a neutral color that matches the lips or a color that matches the lipstick. ¬†This helps to outline your lips beforehand so you know exactly wear to apply the lipstick. ¬†You can also make your lips more even or bigger if you want too. ¬†Plus, it helps the formula last longer.
  • Always make sure your skin is polished and the redness diminished. ¬†If you have rosacea or redness like I do you’ll want to balance out your skin to bring it back to neutral. ¬†Too much redness with red lips is only going to emphasize more redness in your face and before long you may end up looking like you have a sunburn- ain’t no one got time for that! ¬†Do yourself a favor and use a concealer like W3ll People, RMS Beauty or Hynt Beauty to counter balance the redness.
  • Use a lip brush. Lipsticks can be hard to apply sometimes. ¬†To make application a breeze I recommend getting a lip brush. ¬†Just swipe the lipstick with the lip brush and then you are able to get such a precise application. ¬†I like using W3ll People Deluxe Lip Brush Lip Brush or RMS Beauty Brightening Brush(technically not a lip brush but works so well).
  • Once you’ve applied the lipsticks blot once with a piece of paper. ¬†People often say use a tissue but tissue pieces often get stuck on the lips. Paper doesn’t have that issue. ¬†This helps to set your lipstick and get a deeper pigment. ¬†Then lightly apply one more swipe of color right in the center of the lips and slightly blend out.

How to pick the right red for your skin tone-

  • Red Heads- Use more brick toned reds, with orange undertones. ¬†Also, some corals are flattering on red heads.
  • Fair Skin with Cool Undertones- Hues with more raspberry undertones warm up a fair skin with cool undertones.
  • Light to Medium Skin- Use reds with more of a pinkish hue in them.
  • Golden/Olive Skin- Deep rich reds add warmth and compliment golden skin.
  • Medium Skin with olive/yellow undertones- You can rock orangey reds.
  • Medium Skin with Golden Undertones- A true red is perfect on this skin tone. ¬†Make sure it doesn’t have blue undertones but orange.
  • Medium Skin with Neutral Undertones- A true red works that doesn’t have too much orange or blue but meets in the middle.
  • Tan with Warm Undertones- Orange Based Red.
  • Dark with Warm Undertones- A blue based red compliments dark skin with warmth.
  • Dark with Cool Undertones- Ruby red lipstick that’s a touch glossy to bring out lips. Also, wine reds or deep berry hues with a hint of moisture.

*There are some red lipsticks that have a bit of artificial dye in them. ¬†The amount is so small, however, I want you to be aware. ¬†I typically avoid artificial dyes, but I’m ok with it in a lipstick that I don’t wear that often. ¬†I labeled the brands below that do have a little dye so you know.

Gabriel Lip Primer-

RMS Beauty Lip Liner in Dressed Up Red- This does have artificial pigment.

RMS Beauty Lipstick in Russian Roulette-  A deep berry red. Feels like a traditional lipstick. Has a satin to matte finish. This does have artificial pigment.

RMS Beauty Lipstick in Rebound-  A ruby red. Feels like a traditional lipstick. Has a satin to matte finish. This does have artificial pigment.

FitGlow Beauty Lipstick in Love-  More of a cherry red. Very hydrating and conditioning.  Feels light on the lips.

Mahalo Red My Lips- statement red, matte lip color.  It feels light on the lips and moisturizing.

Root Pretty Lipstick in Jenny-  A deep wine berry color, gluten free and vegan. Very moisturizing formula, with a touch of shine.

Root Pretty Lipstick in Famous- Brownish red tint- a show stopping red.  Gluten free and vegan. Very Moisturizing formula with a touch of shine.

Hynt Beauty Lipstick in Red Fervor-  A sexy classic bold red with blue undertones. Hydrating formula. This does have a little artificial pigment.

Kjaer Weis Lipstick in KW Red- ¬†A classic red that looks good on all skin tones. It isn’t super hydrating, but more weighty in texture. Feels like a traditional lipstick.

Vapour Organic Beauty Siren Lipstick in Courage- Classic cherry red. ¬†Feels more like a lip balm but not as hydrating. ¬†It’s not as thick feeling as some lipsticks.

What’s your favorite red lip?! ¬†Leave me a comment!

Life Changing Books

Life Changing Books

So the Christmas season is in full swing and I’m loving every minute of it! ¬†Something about this time of year that makes me reflect on the last year. ¬†From highs to lows and everything in between. ¬†This season always reminds me of what’s most important and how truly grateful I am for my health. ¬†I truly believe one of the best gifts you can give your family and friends is the gift of health. ¬†Think about it, you could have all the money in the world but if you don’t have your health, what does it matter? ¬†You can’t enjoy any of it.

This season I want to encourage you to give the gift of knowledge. ¬†I love the verse in the Bible that says, “My people perish for lack of knowledge.” ¬†It really is true. ¬†I believe most people truly want to do good, but just don’t know where to start or what to do. ¬†Arming people with knowledge, gives them the power to create change in their lives and generations to come. ¬†Just think what would happen if you started to change the way you eat? ¬†Trust me when I say people would take notice and everyone would be affected positively. ¬†What if you decided to stop using the chemical laden products you currently use and instead started swapping them out for safer, cleaner options?

“My people perish for lack of knowledge.”-Bible

You see it’s not just about you, it’s so much bigger than that. ¬†It’s about bringing change to our society as a whole. ¬†This is what I dream about! ¬†Change doesn’t happen overnight though, it happens with one person standing up for something better. ¬†Change starts with you.

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “Readers are leaders.” ¬†As corny as it may sound, I fully believe this is true. ¬†Why can’t we be the ones leading our families and communities towards a better future? ¬†One of the easiest ways to do this is by giving a book to read. ¬†Sometimes it’s hard to share with friends or family about health, but giving a book to someone isn’t. ¬†It’s the easiest way to not say anything, while actually saying a lot. ¬†Have a book say it for you! ¬†As I’ve said knowledge is power, and all people need sometimes is just a little spark to set a fire ablaze within them.

“Readers are leaders.”

I wanted to compile a list of books that I’ve read that have helped me throughout my health journey. ¬†I also had Dr. Matt share some of his top picks too. ¬†I have some cookbooks I really like, some green beauty books and some health books in general. ¬†Buy them as a gift, buy them for yourself, whatever you decide I believe reading always makes us better.

Also, a great tip I’ve picked up to increase my reading capacity is to listen to books on audio. ¬†Especially as a mom this has been huge. ¬†Whether I’m driving in the car, making dinner, cleaning or just nursing my daughter(hello getting real), I just push play. ¬†Instead of just letting time pass, I’m investing in myself and learning.

Tips on Audio books:

Get Audible by Amazon This has changed my life!  You pay a monthly membership fee of $14.95 and you get 1 book with that membership free each month. Then after that you get 30% off any other book.  Download the app on your phone/Ipad and then you can listen whenever you want.  The books stay on your account so you can listen to them again if you want.  You can roll over up to 6 credits. I love it!

Rent From Your Local Library- Get a library card if you don’t already have one and check out audio books for free(and of course regular print copies)! ¬†Even if they don’t have the title you might want chances are if you request it they’ll get it in for you. ¬†No excuses that you can’t afford books because it’s absolutely free. Take advantage of this!

Split Audio Books with Friends or Family-Audio books tend to be more expensive then just a book, but if you split it 3 or 4 ways it ends up being the same price if not cheaper than a printed book. ¬†Everyone benefits but it doesn’t break the bank.

  • The Magnolia Story-(Biography)-Call me predictable but I’m pretty sure anyone should read Chip and Johanna’s story from the popular HGTV story Fixer Upper. ¬†I think sometimes people have the illusion that anyone successful doesn’t go through any hardships. ¬†Their story proves this theory wrong and how success in life takes dedication and hard work.
  • Fed & Fit Cookbook(Clean Eating)- This cookbook has been such a great resource for me in the kitchen. ¬†Cassey really lays out not only amazing paleo friendly recipes in the book but also some health principles that are life changing. ¬†The food is delicious and her story inspiring.
  • Lexi’s Clean Kitchen Cookbook(Clean Eating)- This cookbook has quickly become a favorite. ¬†If someone you know thinks “healthy” food can’t taste good then this is the cookbook for them. ¬†Lexi really makes eating clean fun and creates all your standby comfort foods but with a healthy twist. ¬†I’m always amazed at the flavors that come out of her recipes.
