Natural Self Tanning Routine

Natural Self Tanning Routine

In today’s video I’m sharing my natural self tanning routine.  This isn’t something I just use in the summer time but all year long.  I’m sharing how I prep my skin for the self tanner and also how I apply the self tanner.  Plus, I’m sharing all my favorite natural self tanner’s in clean beauty!  It’s so important to make sure you’re using a natural self tanner and not a conventional one.  A natural self tanner is free from harmful toxins.  If you think about your skin, it’s the largest organ in your body.  That’s a lot of product to be applying all over.  If it’s filled with toxins that’s even more chemicals that you are exposing to yourself on a daily basis.  Skip the conventional, toxic self tanner and grab one of my favorite natural self tanners instead!  You will thank yourself.

Also, learn the best tips on how to apply your self tanner and what products I prefer.  It’s so important to have a clean canvas so your self tanner looks as natural as possible.  Otherwise you could end up looking like an Oompa Loompa!  Don’t forget to subscribe on YouTube so you can be the first to get updates on new videos!

What’s your favorite natural self tanner?

Best Natural Self Tanner

Best Natural Self Tanner

I’m so excited to share with you the Best Natural Self Tanner!  I’ve tried several since going green and I’m here to share my favorite.

This post is sponsored by The Choosy Chick– your one stop shop for your whole family when it comes to green and clean products.  Margot the founder, personally tries the products and researches what she brings in to her online shop.  So you know you’re only getting the best of the best!

Who is Eco Tan?

Ok, let’s talk about the best natural self tanner.  I had been using a self tanner for a while but was looking for a new one.  I had heard about Eco Tan years ago but never tried the product.  Margot had contacted me from The Choosy Chick about trying out Eco Tan and I knew I had too hop on it!  Eco Tan is made in Australia by a mom named Sonya who wanted a tan without the harmful UV rays.  Her sister had been diagnosed with melanoma and had to get a growth cut off of her arm.  They started to get spray tans but then were concerned about the ingredients.  Sonya started to experiment with ingredients in their kitchen and not long after they became the first tanning manufacturer to be certified organic by the Organic Food Chain under the Australian government- pretty cool!

Why Choose a Natural Self Tanner:

I really admire Eco Tan’s commitment to safe ingredients!  I used to use a conventional self tanner back in the day that was anything but natural.  I’m always shocked at the ingredients.  When I’ve looked at today’s self tanners, things haven’t changed.  Conventional self tanners contain an array of ingredients I wouldn’t want near my skin.  Things like, phenoxyethanol, fragrance, PEG’s, propylene glycol and parabens just to name a few.  As most of you know, skin is the largest organ and absorbs what we put on it.

According to studies, our skin absorbs 60% of what we put on.

Why I love Eco Tan?

After testing out Eco Tan there are so many reasons why I love it!  Even compared to other natural self tanners I’ve used.  For starters it doesn’t smell like self tanner.  You know what I mean, the stinky smell that’s almost inevitable with self tanners.  Well, not with Eco Tan!  I tried two of their products, the Face Tan Water and their Invisible Tan.  The Face Tan Water smells like citrus and the Invisible Tan smells like a mix of chamomile and geranium.

Face Tan Water- I love that this product isn’t a lotion or cream but just like a toner for the skin.  Sometimes creams can be greasy and just too much for the face.  The Face Tan water gives you no greasiness and feels so light on the skin.  I applied this twice a week for an all over tan glow.  I would make sure to cleanse and exfoliate my skin beforehand and then apply the self tanner to dry skin.  I used my fingers and just made sure to rinse them well afterwards to ensure I didn’t have any leftover residue.  I applied to my face and decolletage It also says on the directions you can use a cotton pad to apply if you want but I just used my hands. Get the Face Tan Water here!

Invisible Tan- This comes in a tube and is a cream/lotion.  It can be used for face or body.  I just used it for my body.  I made sure to exfoliate before application.  I really like Acure’s Brightening Exfoliator.  I would apply to dry skin.  I noticed it took about 6 hours or so for me to see a difference in color.  The color looks so realistic and natural.  Nothing fake looking.  It really blends so well too.  I noticed a difference after one application but after two I really looked like I had a good tan. Before and After Photos-

I wanted to share with you some before and after photos so you could get a good idea of what the product looks like on the skin.  Plus, see the difference 1 application versus 2 can make.  Hope it helps!

New Fave Sunless Tanner

New Fave Sunless Tanner

I don’t know about you, but I just look better with a tan.  Truthfully, I think everyone does.  I used to love to “fake and bake”…I know, horrible- don’t judge!  But no worries, I saw the light.  Now I’m kind of OCD when it comes to exposing my face, and decolletage to the sun.  I’m all about preserving my face from brown spots, and wrinkles, thank you.  However, it doesn’t mean this girl doesn’t like a little tan. (more…)

Self Tanners

Ok, all you ladies out there love a little glow right?  I mean who doesn’t look better with a little bit of sun?  Now I’m not talking Oompa Loompa here but just a good sunkissed glow.  Well, I certainly do!  The great thing with self tanners is you can keep re-applying if you want more color, minus the skin damage.  Nowadays, there’s a lot more to choose from in the organic self tanner department then in the past.  I’m sure you’ve seen all the mainstream lines toting their self tanners but what they don’t tell you is all the chemicals added to them.  No, I don’t want a side of parabens, dyes, synthetic fragrance and many other unmentionables in my self tanner.  Let’s keep it pure people!

Well, thankfully there is a healthy alternative and it actually works too.  I am a devotee of Lavera’s self tanner.  It’s been one of my natural staples since going green.  Not only does it give you a glow but an amazing color to boot.  I don’t know how many times people have said you’re glowing and as much as I would love to take the credit, it’s really Lavera.  (But let’s let them think what they want.) I was out for a while and I felt naked without it.  It makes everything look better, from foundation, to concealer…in fact I feel I don’t even have to wear foundation when I’m wearing it because it makes all my splotchies (wait is that a word?) on my face disappear.  Anyways, I’ve tried many others and I must say nothing is quite like Lavera in terms of performance and ingredients.  What I love is that they don’t use soy in their products, unlike many natural self tanners I’ve found.  I get it, soy is cheap but usually it’s genetically modified if it’s not organic and if it is who wants to be rubbing soy on their skin all the time?  Soy basically can produce more estrogen in the body because it has phytoestrogens (Isoflavone) in it that imitate the hormone.  And with all the breast cancer and cancer in general I just stay clear of any additional estrogen producers.

One last thing.  I always recommend exfoliating before putting on any self tanner.  I use a mixture of brown sugar and water.  Just take it in the shower and scrub away.  I use that mostly for my body and then for my face I’ll use a facial exfoliant, but I’ve used my brown sugar mixture before and it works like a charm.  Just be sure to not go to town on your face…you don’t want to irritate it.  Also, be sure to not put any oil or lotion on before you put on the self tanner.  You want  a freshly scrubbed clean slate.  I usually apply mine in the morning and it takes about 3-4 hours for the color to kick in.  I’ve also applied it an hour or so before bed and wake up looking like I was dreaming in Hawaii.  Ok, enough of my rant, if you want to try Lavera out you can find it at:
