Kitchen Gadgets can really make a huge difference in the kitchen. They can make things easier and faster- which is what we want when cooking REAL food.

I’ve collected several kitchen gadgets over the years and I’ve found my favorites and ones I truly do think make a huge difference.

Most of these you can get on Amazon too!

Immersion Blender

I’m not sure what I did before I had one of these!  I use it for so many things.  One of my favorite ways to use it is pureeing soups while they’re in the pot still.  Makes it so easy instead of trying to transfer it to a blender.  I also use it to puree cauliflower when making cauliflower mash.  Or if I’m making hot chocolate on the stovetop and want to incorporate everything together and make it frothy.  It’s also pretty inexpensive.  Under $30!

High Powered Blender

I have a Blendtec but I’m not partial to a Blendtec Blender.  I think any high powered blender is nice, whether it’s a Vitamix, Blendtec or Ninja.  The key is making sure it’s high powered.  That’s really going to help you make the best smoothies and really get that smooth consistency.  I make smoothies all the time and I can’t imagine not having a high powered blender.  I use my Blendtec everyday if not twice a day.  I also use it for recipes, and making juices(yes you don’t need a juicer to make a juice).

I’ve heard great things about Vitamix and the Ninja too. The Ninja is definitely cheaper.  My brother has a Vitamix and loves it.  The Blendtec is nice because you can buy another jar called a Twister Jar that’s smaller and use it to make nut butters in less than a minute, sauces like pesto, etc.  I use this little jar more than the big jar! it works great for single serve smoothies too.  The only thing I don’t like as much about the Blendtec is that it doesn’t have a stick like the Vitamix has.  The stick helps to move things around when food gets stuck or if your smoothie is too thick.  You put it in the middle while the lid is on.  I think I would like it because I really like making thick smoothies and smoothie bowls. So just keep that in mind if you haven’t bought one yet.

You can also buy refurbished Blendtec and Vitamix Blenders off Amazon and save some money.  A refurbished blender means it’s been used but been fixed and any parts have been repaired.  You still get the same warranty and it has to pass all the certification tests before it’s back up for sale.  The great part is you can save quite a bit buying a blender that’s refurbished.

Berkey Water Filter

This is definitely a must in my opinion when it comes to kitchen gadgets.  We all need water and filtering your water is so important to avoid the common contaminants in water.  Tap water can contain fluoride, bacteria, pesticides, viruses, chlorine chloramines, heavy metals and more. Berkey filters out these contaminants and more, plus has testing done on their purification process.

I recommend getting the Big Berkey for most people, as you want to have extra for cooking too.  If you’re single you could get by with the travel Berkey.

Berkey Water Filter

Sounds obvious maybe but I wasn’t a cook when I started in the kitchen.  I literally didn’t know how to cook chicken- yes I’ve come a long way!  So if you think you can’t cook- trust me you can. I was just like you.  One year for Christmas I remember my hubs got me a really nice knife and it made such a difference!  I wish I would have gotten one sooner.  It makes cutting and chopping so much easier.  This is the knife I have and it works great.  I got it from Williams Sonoma and it they will sharpen your knife for free the first time and then after that it’s only $5- pretty cool!

So the ones I listed above are ones I use everyday and really do make a huge difference in helping me to make real food.  The gadgets below are ones I use a lot and recommend but I don’t want you to feel that you have to have them.  I definitely didn’t invest in them all at once.

Instant Pot

I finally caved two years ago and bought an instant pot and I have to say it was the best investment!  As a busy mom this is kind of the best gift I could give myself.  I use it for so many things.  From hard boiling eggs, making soups, cooking whole chickens, making shredded meat from beef and chicken and making steel cut oats.  There are so many things you could use it for.  It cuts the time in half for everything and does it all for you.  I love cooking a whole chicken in it for the week.  It cooks in 35 minutes!  Then I’m left with great broth for soups.  It’s really such a great investment.  I have the 8 quart.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ll throw some random ingredients from meat, veggies, some broth and spices and it tastes so good.  Check Costco too, they often are selling them and you can get a great deal on it.

Toaster Oven

We love our toaster oven.  We don’t have a toaster because this takes the place of it.  We do have a microwave because it came with the house when we bought it.  But we used to not have a microwave and so this would always reheat our leftovers or food.  So we just got used to it.  Microwaves  give off EMF’s which can damage our DNA.  I’m not saying never use a microwave I do still but just don’t stand by it and maybe invest in a toaster oven.  We have a Cuisinart Toaster Oven that we got from Costco for $100.  You can find it on Amazon, I linked it above but it’s $80 more!  Check your Costco first.

Excalibur Dehydrator

I finally bought a dehydrator 2 years ago.  I had been using my grandma’s dehydrator for a while just to get a good feel for it and see if I would really use it.  Once I did I knew I wanted to invest in an Excalibur Dehydrator.  My grandmas was a round circular dehydrator and it makes it a little more cumbersome to use versus the squares trays that Excalibur has.

I use my dehydrator for so many things from raw veggie bread to dried fruit and dehydrating nuts.  There’s so many uses.  If you want to know more about Raw Veggie Bread- you can check it out here.

Cuisinart 14 Cup Food Processor

This food processor is amazing. I got it last spring and I’m not sure how I lived without it. I thought I could use my blender for everything but really the food processor is different and does things the blender can’t because of it’s wide bowl. I use this for my raw veggie breads, making paleo granola, bars, hummus, random recipes- so much.  But I think in the beginning you can get by with just a high speed blender.  Also, I want to note that the 14 cup food processor is the one I would recommend.  My sister has a 10 cup I believe and it’s not as powerful, especially for raw veggie breads.

Soda Stream Glass Crystal Sparkling Water Maker

This is definitely an extra but one that both my hubs and I love!  It makes sparkling water using glass bottles.  I like it because you can use filtered water.  They have several soda streams that use plastic but this one uses glass.  We take our sparkling water pretty serious around here! 🙂

Almond Cow Nut Milk Maker

This nut milk maker has changed my life! It literally makes the best nut milk in less than a minute. I’ve never had nut milk so creamy and delicious. It does it all for you from straining, and grinding. You rinse the container and colander and you’re done. Totally an extra purchase but if you do find yourself making a lot of nut milks it may be worth the investment.  Before this I would just blend the nuts in the blender and strain through a nut milk bag.  A lot cheaper for sure but a little more cumbersome.  Use my coupon code: GURLGONEGREEN for $15 off your Almond Cow purchase.

Sometimes it’s nice to have a cookbook to look at too!  I love getting a new cookbook for inspiration..  Something about it makes me want to get back in the kitchen and start cooking!  I wanted to share some of my favorite cookbooks with you that have been staples.

Against All Grain

I mentioned it above but I love Danielle Walker’s cookbooks!  She makes paleo recipes mostly with an emphasis on real whole food ingredients.  She has four cookbooks out and I have 3 of them- but kind of 4 because my sister has the other one and I borrow it.  🙂

Lexi’s Clean Kitchen

This has been a staple cookbook I use a lot.  She is  also paleo, but offers subs for other things too.  A lot of her food is spin offs on comfort food.

Wellness Mama Cookbook

This is just a well rounded cookbook for any mom to have.    Her recipes are so simple and tasty!  It’s no fuss meals that are still packed with nutrients. It’s not paleo but gluten free.
