July Beauty Heroes: Josh Rosebrook

July Beauty Heroes: Josh Rosebrook

So excited to share the July Beauty Heroes, Josh Rosebrook with you!  The Beauty Heroes box just gets better and better!  However, this one is extra special in my opinion.  Josh Rosebrook isn’t new to the green beauty scene.  In fact, if you’ve been it for a hot minute you’ve heard of his products and for good reason.  They perform!  This isn’t the first time Josh Rosebrook has been in Beauty Heroes either.  I’ve personally met Josh and I can say he’s knowledgeable about ingredients, funny and sweet.  Some of my favorite products of his are the Active Enzyme Exfoliator, Cacao Antioxidant Mask, Hair Spray, and Lift Spray  just to name a few.  I could go on and on, but I’ll leave that for the review.  In case you haven’t heard about Beauty Heroes or are knew to the experience, allow me to introduce you to the “IT” green beauty box.

Beauty Heroes was founded by Jeannie Jarnot.  A longtime spa director herself and healthy beauty expert.  I had the pleasure of meeting Jeannie at IBE, and she is truly one of the sweetest people.  Beauty Heroes is a monthly beauty service that selects only the best clean beauty brands.  Each month you can find one to two full size truly heroic products in each box.  The products typically range from skincare to haircare products.  However, every 3 months Beauty Heroes offers a makeup box as well that’s optional for members or non-members.  I absolutely love their “Use Less, Love More” philosophy.  By only getting one or two products, you allow yourself to truly experience them.  Of course you can trust their picks, as they are strict on their integrity standards.  What’s not to love about this whole concept?  As a Beauty Heroes Ambassador, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of such a movement.

Ok, time to divulge all the details about this month’s stellar discovery!

Before I dive into the discovery I want to give a little background on Josh and his products.  He truly believes in every ingredient that he uses and creates so much more than a mere beauty product.  I love his whole philosophy on just giving the body the necessary tools to heal itself.  Our bodies were created to do just that and by providing it with the right nutrients, it’s able to carry out the process.  Since our body is natural, he believes we need to give it natural elements to facilitate the regeneration process with things like, plants, seeds, stems, leaves and flowers.  I’m all about that!  Not only are you giving your body the absolute best but you are creating it to rely on nature-the way it was intended to do.  His skincare regimen is all about cleansing the skin, exfoliating, hydrating, moisturizing and protecting it.

So if you haven’t tried any of Josh Rosebrook’s products I highly recommend you start by purchasing this box-because it’s so good!

Nutrient Day Cream with Broad Spectrum SPF 30-

This is actually a newish product for me from Josh’s line.  I did sample a small amount before but it was hardly enough to really get a feel for the product.  I was so excited to see it as this month’s hero product!  Perfect timing for the summer months.  First can we talk about the packaging?!  So luxe.  This is the new packaging that the line will be transitioning over to.  It’s in a white glass that looks so chic.  Plus, I’m a fan of anything in glass and in a pump form-such easy application.  This

The cream literally glides onto your skin leaving behind hydrated and plump skin.  The perfect base before makeup application.  It offers some great sun protection with the mineral zinc oxide.  No white cast hue here-you can’t even see it once rubbed into the skin.  The ingredients are just so amazing.  Aloe is the first one and then there’s a combo of hydrating oils, butters and soothing properties like calendula and chamomile.  A true skincare treat.  When you pump the product out it feels like a lotion, not a cream.  I tend to have dry skin and my skin loves it.  It doesn’t feel overly hydrating, where you might end up with a greasy face.  Instead, my skin feels moisturized from within.  I’m sold!  It’s also made with organic, non-gmo and wild crafted ingredients.  This is the perfect facial sunscreen for daily wear or if you’re heading on vacation-either way you’re set!  Check out more about the Nutrient Day Cream here!

Vital Balm Cream-

The Vital Balm Cream is hands down one of my favorite moisturizers. It feels creamy to the touch-not greasy and when I apply it my skin’s dryness dissipates and I’m left with plump hydrated skin.  Ok, the smell…well it’s amazing! One of the best smelling products I’ve ever used.  It has a fresh, light smell with vanilla enveloping all of it and blue tansy and ylang ylang notes throughout-I’m obsessed with the smell.  I apply this before my foundation and it works great and at night too it’s the perfect finishing touch.  It has the properties of a balm but feels like a cream-I mean it’s kind a dream cream!  Can we talk about the color too?!  The baby mint/blue hue just looks cool.  It also comes in a sleek glass jar.  The ingredient I was excited to learn about in the product is Indian Senna Seed.  It really performs just like it supposed to in this cream.  It’s been called the botanical hyaluronic acid, it gives skin the ability to retain moisture on it’s own.  So your skin feels hydrated well after application.  It’s also made with organic, non-gmo and wild crafted ingredients.  If you’ve been searching for a good all around moisturizer this is it!!  Check out more about the Vital Balm Cream here!

That sums up my review of this month’s Beauty Hero Box.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again if you haven’t signed up for Beauty Heroes you need too!  This box alone was a value at $115!  You’re only paying $38.33 a month-crazy I know.  I would get on this box right away-word is it will go fast!  Sign up for Beauty Heroes here!

Also, be sure to check out the Beauty Heroes Beauty Store.  Full of past heroic products and a ton of other green beauty must have items.  Every month Beauty Heroes offers a Love More Promotion.  This offer is for non-members and members.  July’s Love More is a 1 oz. Cleopatra Milk and Honey Beauty Mask from LILFOX when you spend $125+ in the Beauty Store. ($26 value)

Best Green Beauty Hair Styling Products

Best Green Beauty Hair Styling Products

Ok, so let’s talk hair and dig deep into the Best Green Beauty Hair Styling Products!  It’s really a shame I don’t talk about it more- after all I am a cosmetologist!  I’ve had a love affair with hair since I can remember.  As a kid I was always playing dress up with my hair.  Then I became a teenager and it just escalated.  My senior year of high school they had this program where you could use your elective credit to go to cosmetology school- of course I signed up!  After I graduated high school I ended up graduating Cosmetology school two weeks later.  I’ve worked in salons, did hair all throughout college and even had my own place for a while.  I started off using conventional products of course because I didn’t know any better but as soon as I learned the dangers of them I made the switch!

Although I don’t do hair as a job anymore, I still do my family and close friends.  I also still notice people’s hair right away and often want to get my hands on it…haha what can I say-some things never change!  I’m always down for a good makeover sesh with anyone that’s willing. 🙂

Clean Living Natural

Join the 5 Day Clean Living Challenge and start living your best natural life!

So enough chit chat let’s get to the nitty gritty!  I’ve tried a ton of natural hair products and really wanted to show you guys how I achieve certain looks and how it is possible with clean products.  Yes, green products perform just as good as conventional ones- it might take a while to find them but eventually you do.  I also wanted to show you it’s possible with any hair type.  I have 3 sisters-so that’s 3 different heads of hair that I’ve worked with a lot besides my own.  And guess what?!  We all have different hair types…pretty crazy but true.  Let me break it down.

My Hair- Fine/Thin/Straight

1st Sister- Fine/Wavy/Frizzy/Thick

2nd Sister- Coarse/Wavy/Frizzy/Very Thick

3rd Sister- Fine/Straight/Very Thick

*Side note- You could say I got the shaft when it comes to good hair in my family! 😉

So I not only have tried product on myself but also on them.  Below you’ll find different looks I created using all clean products and what worked for each sister.  First I’m going to highlight my favorite hair products and then I’ll show you some looks! Also, I did an Instagram Live video the other week showing you how I curl my hair.  Here is the video below!

All Star Products/Tools:

Josh Rosebrook Hair Spray- Haven’t found one that performs better than this.  It holds my hair, isn’t sticky feeling, doesn’t weigh it down but gives it lift and smells great! (Works on everyone) Get your Josh Rosebrook Hair Spray here!

Josh Rosebrook Lift- This volume spray is great for spritzing on hair before you blow dry for added volume and lift.  I love spraying at the roots and using my fingers to tousle it through my hair before blow drying.  My sister with coarse hair doesn’t use this because she doesn’t have any issues with volume but my other two sisters use it for volume at the roots since their hair is fine and tends to lay flat against the head.  It isn’t going to give you as much grit in the roots like a mousse would but a nice lift.  Get your Lift spray here!

Josh Rosebrook Syling Cream- This such a good hair paste for adding definition after curling hair, and texture.  It also helps to calm my pesky hair fly aways at the top of my head from new mom regrowth- and all the moms said amen!  My hubs loves this too.  It gives his hair some hold but doesn’t look crunchy or wet and smells good!  I love when a product works for both my husband and myself.  Get your Styling Cream here!

Innersense Inner Peace Whipped Creme Texturizer- Love this stuff!  It’s really great for any hair type.  I use it on my hair after curling it to achieve a more messy, undone look and to give it a bit of hold.  It doesn’t weigh my hair down at all.  I also love it for hair that is naturally wavy like my sisters.  It instantly enhances their waves and creates some definition and hold. Get your Whipped Creme Texturizer here!

Innersense Harmonic Healing Oil- This oil is great for those with dry scalp.  One of my sisters tends to get a dry scalp, especially in the winter.  I gave her this to combat it.  Also, great for those with coarse hair that tends to frizz or if you’re hair is damaged due to color.

Innersense I Create Lift Mousse- Love, love, love this mousse!  It creates lift, and volume in my lifeless hair.  I also love that it adds texture and some grit.  The volume lasts all day too!  I can’t say enough about it.  I squirt a golf ball size amount in my hand and then rub it into hands and then hair.  Then I blow dry my hair for volume that lasts.  Snag your Innersense I Create Lift Mousse here!

Innersense Sweet Spirit Leave In- Conditioner- This is great for spraying on hair if you’re going to be out in the sun and you want to protect your hair.  Also, great as a detangler for kids and anyone with really thick hair. Grab your Leave In Conditioner here!

Innersense Quiet Calm Curl Control- This curl cream is great for applying to hair after you’ve towel dried it.  Apply it throughout and then use your fingers to scrunch as you blow dry or you can let it air dry.  It helps to define curls, eliminate frizz and give an overall smoothness to your hair.  If you have any frizz or wave to your hair this is a great option.  It’s great as a heat protectant too because it has rice bran oil and oat kernel extract both great heat protectants. Grab your Quiet Calm Curl Control here!

Innersense Inner Reflection Finish Polish- This polish is a great way to add some shine and light hold to the hair.  With It comes in a solid gel in a jar.  I just scoop a dime size amount out and rub between my fingers and apply to my hair from mid shaft to the ends.  It helps to smooth my dry ends and make my color pop.  Great for those with curly dry hair too that need some extra moisture or those with coarse hair that needs some frizz control.  Get your Inner Reflection Finish Polish here.

Captain Blankenship Mermaid Sea Salt Spray- This was my first green beauty sea salt spray and it was love at first spray!  It gives me the tousled beach waves and texture.  I love applying it after I have curled my hair for some definition.  It smells divine too!  I get notes of geranium and palmarosa.  This one has a little less hold than the Rahua salt spray if you’re curious what the difference is. Get your Mermaid Sea Salt Spray here!

Max Green Alchemy Scalp Rescue Texture Paste- This paste has been a fun discovery as of late.  It really lives up to it’s name.  It comes in a tube versus a jar like the Josh Rosebrook Styling Cream or the John Masters Hair Paste.  Great for a guy’s hair too!  I use it to add definition and some hold to my hair.  It smells of citrus but nothing too strong.  The product is pretty cool because you can reactivate it again by getting your hair slightly damp.  Snag your Scalp Rescue Texture Paste here!

John Masters Hair Paste- This is another great hair paste.  My hubs and I both use this on our hair.  It offers some texture and definition but doesn’t make your hair look wet or greasy.  I love putting a dime size amount in my hands and rubbing them together then applying it throughout my hair after curling for added texture.  It also helps calm down the post partum hair regrowth I’ve had from two daughters! The scent of the product isn’t strong either.  Has a subtle citrus and bergamot smell.  Get your John Masters Hair Paste here!

John Masters Hair Spray- This hair spray is a great alternative to conventional spray.  It comes in a pump form, not an aerosol.  It is bit more wet of a formula than the Josh Rosebrook hair spray.  I find myself using it on my daughter’s hair more because it’s less expensive and save the Josh Rosebrook for my hair.  🙂 It comes in an 8 oz. bottle and is $24 and the Josh Rosebrook comes in a 4 oz. bottle and is the same price.  A little more bang for your buck!  Get the John Masters Hair Spray here!

Honest Beauty Heat Defense Spray- I’ve been searching for a good heat protectant spray for a long time and I finally found one!  This is a legit heat protectant spray.  I haven’t been able to find one in green beauty until now.  I spray it on my hair when it’s towel dried before I blow dry.  It doesn’t make my hair feel crunchy or greasy either and protects hair up to 450!  Snag your Honest Heat Defense Spray here!

Honest Beauty Honestly Polished Dry Condition + Shine Serum- I haven’t found a hair serum in green beauty that doesn’t grease up my hair until I found this one.  It offers hydration but it feels weightless.  Especially great for those with frizzy hair or colored hair that has dried out ends(me).  It helps to add some weightless shine and moisture. I had just a few drops to my hands and rub them together then apply mid shaft down. Get your Dry Condition Serum here!

Rahua Enchanted Island Salt Spray- This spray is all about those beach waves.  I always love trying hair products that give hair some texture, while at the same time giving some hold and this product does just that.  I curled my hair with a 1 inch curling iron and then combed the curls out and sprayed the spray all over, scrunching up as I sprayed.  It helped create more texture in my hair and made it more piecey looking.  Plus, it gives a great hold, without looking crispy.  The smell is so good too- takes you to the beach!  I even sprayed it in my hair without curling it and loved the texture it gave it.  A definite must have product for the summer but even year round!  It’s been on repeat in my hair routine.  Grab your Enchanted Island Salt Spray here!

Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Hold & Shine Daily Moisture Mist- This mist is great for thick coarse hair.  It gets rid of frizz and replaces it with a shine.  You can use it on damp or dry hair. I really like this for my two sisters with wavy/frizzy hair.  It helps to calm the frizz and seal the hair cuticle so it looks smooth.  A great budget friendly pick too!

Dry Shampoos- I’m a mom and therefore I need my dry shampoo-like a kid needs their blankey!  Yeah, it’s a must.  I did a whole post on all my favorites.  I have something for every budget and hair type-yes even you brunettes!  Obviously dry shampoo is a must for extending your hair style but it’s also great for adding a little extra volume to any style.  I use it often even if my hair has just been washed.  It gives it just enough texture and volume.  Check out my list of fave dry shampoos here.

Conair Teasing Hair Brush So I’m picky about my teasing brush too.  I love a good teasing brush!  I tease my hair nearly everyday…and no I’m not in the 80’s but this girl needs some volume at her roots!  A lot of people tease with a comb, but I find I get much more volume with a brush. It gives me lasting body all day.  Here’s my fave brush.

Curling Iron/Flat Iron- I really like Babyliss tools BaBylissPRO Flat Iron.  I also like Hot Tools Spring Grip Iron 85 Watt 1/2″ Mini HTL1103 to curl my hair.  I recommend if you have shoulder length or shorter to stick with a Hot Tools 1181 Professional Spring Curling Iron, 1 Inch for thicker hair and 1/2 inch for thinner/finer hair.  The smaller the barrel the better your curl will stay- so good for fine haired gals.  Once you’re done curling you can just use your fingers to comb through but if you use too large a barrel then you might not get enough hold in your curl.  I also have a one inch wand by GVP.

Shampoo/Conditioner- So I have another post dedicated to my fave shampoos and conditioners but if you’re wanting to know-here they are.  True Botanicals takes the cake for a shampoo and conditioner that legit cleans your hair and makes it feel bouncy and fresh.  I also love Innersense Beauty Shampoo and Conditioner-they’re great for color treated hair especially.  I’m also

So those are all the products and tools I use on a pretty consistent basis.  Below I have pics of styles I’ve created using these products.  Besides myself I also took some pics of two of my sisters with different styled looks.

Straight Hair-

Innersense I Create Lift Mousse on damp hair  and focused on roots, and Honest Heat Protectant Spray.  Blow dry after spritzing them on. I always blow dry my hair upside down for added volume. Then flat iron.  Next apply a little dry shampoo at the roots and tease at the crown just a tad. Then I’ll finish the look with a touch of Josh Rosebrook Hair Spray.

Beachy Waves with a Flat Iron-

(A little more messy than the curling iron look)

Innersense I Create Lift Mousse  on the roots and all over to add some texture.  Then Honest Heat Protectant Spray.  for heat protectant.  Blow dry my hair upside down and use a brush to brush it downwards as I’m blowdrying for added volume.  Once done blow drying I use my teaser brush and tease the top section of my head for some added volume.  I also add some dry shampoo at this time too.  Then curl my hair leaving the ends out with a flat iron.  I’m always curling away from my face. Once done curling then I comb through the curls with my fingers so they look undone.  Then I spray in the Rahua Sea Salt Spray and use my hands to scrunch up with it all around.  Then I add a dime sized dollop of the Inner Peace Whipped Texturizer by Innersense Beauty.  And scrunch all around with it as well.  I also might take a few pieces here and there to define them a little more with the product.  Finally, I spritz with Josh Rosebrook Hair Spray.

Beachy Waves with a Curling Iron-

(A little more refined than the flat iron look)

Josh Rosebrook Lift spray on the roots and all over to add some texture.  Then Hamadi Organics Shea Spray for heat protectant.  Blow dry my hair upside down and use a brush to brush it downwards as I’m blowdrying for added volume.  Once done blow drying I use my teaser brush and tease the top section of my head for some added volume.  I also add some dry shampoo at this time too.  Then curl my hair leaving the ends out with a curling iron. I’m always curling away from my face.  Once done curling then I comb through the curls with my fingers so they look undone.  Then I spray in the Herbivore Sea Salt spray and use my hands to scrunch up with it all around.  Then I add a dime sized dollop of the Inner Peace Whipped Texturizer by Innersense Beauty.  And scrunch all around with it as well.  I also might take a few pieces here and there to define them a little more with the product.  Finally I spritz with Josh Rosebrook hair spray.

Straight hair on Sister #1 with Fine/Frizzy/Thick Hair-

Josh Rosebrook Lift Spray on Roots for added volume since she has fine hair-even though it’s thick. Then used Innersense Quiet Calm Curl Control from her mid shaft down to her ends for frizz control and heat protection.  I used a brush to lift the roots up throughout her hair as I blow dried.  Then once dry I spray on Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Hold & Shine Moisture Mist.  It helps to calm frizz as well and give a shine.  Then I flat ironed in sections.  Once done I spritzed it with Josh Rosebrook hair spray lightly.

Beachy Waves(using a flat iron) on Sister #1 with Fine/Frizzy/Thick Hair-

Josh Rosebrook Lift Spray on Roots for added volume since she has fine hair-even though it’s thick. Then used Innersense Quiet Calm Curl Control from her mid shaft down to her ends for frizz control and heat protection. I used a brush to lift the roots up throughout her hair as I blow dried.  Then once dry I spray on Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Hold & Shine Daily Moisture Mist-.  It helps to calm frizz as well and give a shine. Then I took one inch sections of hair throughout and curled them away from her face with a flat iron.  Once done curling I used my fingers to comb through her hair and make the curls look more undone.  Then I sprayed in the Mermaid Sea Salt Spray by Captain Blankenship and used my hands to scrunch up with it all around.  Then I added a nickel sized dollop of the Inner Peace Whipped Texturizer by Innersense Beauty.  And scrunch all around with it as well.  I also might take a few pieces here and there to define them a little more with the product.  Finally, I spritz with Josh Rosebrook hair spray.

Straight hair on Sister #2 with Coarse/Wavy/Frizzy/Extra Thick Hair-

She already has a lot of volume naturally so I just use the Innersense Quiet Calm Curl Control on from her mid shaft down to her ends for frizz control and heat protection. Then I use a brush and lift up and out as I’m blow drying.  Once finished I add in the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Hold & Shine Moisture Mist.  It helps to calm frizz as well and give a shine.  Then I flat ironed in sections.  Once done I spray Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Hold & Shine Daily Moisture Mist- on it again just for added shine and because her hair is naturally frizzy and coarse.

Beachy Waves on Sister #2 with Coarse/Wavy/Frizzy/Extra Thick Hair-

She already has a lot of volume naturally so I just use the Innersense Quiet Calm Curl Control on from her mid shaft down to her ends for frizz control and heat protection. Then I use a brush and lift up and out as I’m blow drying.  Once finished I add in the Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Hold & Shine Daily Moisture Mist-.  It helps to calm frizz as well and give a shine. Then I take sections and curl away from her face-making sure the ends are left out.  Once done I comb through the waves with my fingers.  Then I spray in the Mermaid Sea Salt Spray by Captain Blankenship and used my hands to scrunch up with it all around.  Then I add a nickel sized dollop of the Inner Peace Whipped Texturizer by Innersense Beauty.  And scrunch all around with it as well.  I also take a few pieces here and there to define them a little more with the product.  Finally, I spritz with Josh Rosebrook hair spray. (P.S. She has amazing hair-it’s not fair!)

That sums up my hair diaries!  If you have any questions on products I used or what might work for your hair type-just ask!  I would love to help you figure it out!    What green beauty hair products are you loving??

November Beauty Heroes: Josh Rosebrook

November Beauty Heroes: Josh Rosebrook

This month’s Beauty Heroe’s box is SO special-I couldn’t wait to share it with you guys!  Josh Rosebrook is a genius and his products speak for themselves.  If you’ve been reading my blog long enough you know I’m a fan of his products.  This month his Cacao Antioxidant Mask takes center stage as hero of the month!  I was already a huge fan of this mask and was just so jazzed to see it in this month’s box.  This mask is what started it all for Josh.  After experimenting with cacao, he noticed a significant improvement in his skin.  His clients noticed as well and for good reason!

I love Josh’s whole approach to skincare.  It’s all about supporting the skin’s natural ability to heal itself.  Giving it what it needs so that it can repair on it’s own.  Not a quick fix like many would want, but a process of letting your skin regenerate as it was meant too.  This happens by supporting the skin with herbs, nuts, fruit, seeds, plants, leaves, and flowers.  These natural resources offer similar phytonutrients found in the body and help facilitate the skin’s ability to heal thorough cell turnover. Josh believes in a five step process: Cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate, moisturize and protect-I couldn’t agree more!  You can’t have one without the other.  They are all connected and help the skin to become the best version of itself.  I have seen for myself the amazing transformation skin can take when nourished and given time-can you say glow?!

This month’s hero is not a new hero to me.  I’ve been using Josh’s Cacao Antioxidant Mask for a while and have fallen hard for it.  First, it comes in this chic glass jar.  You open it and instantly get a whiff of rich cacao-just like the name suggests.  I’m in love!  It looks like dark rich frosting but not the kind you eat. This decadence is the kind you apply to your face.  Before application I mist Josh’s Hydrating Accelerator over my face.  Leaving my skin dewy and ready for masking.  I just use a spoon to apply some of the mask on the back of my hand and then use my fingers to apply to my face.  I’ve found the formula is too thick for a brush. Once applied, I wait 45 minutes to let the mask do it’s magic.  You can do less time but I like to get the full effect.  Then I just wipe off with a washcloth.  After, my skin feels revived, refreshed and awake.  I love applying my oils after and then waking up to skin that is seriously happy and radiant.  The mask detoxifies while at the same time nourishing and giving back so many nutrients into the skin.  A serious skin treat!

So what’s in this mask that makes it so magical?!  The ingredients in the mask are amazing and really make this “glow” happen.  Cacao is a known antioxidant that helps to slow the aging process and beef up collagen to give skin it’s health back.  Plus, it helps to bring circulation to the skin, causing it to absorb nutrients better.  If that wasn’t enough there are a chockfull of plant oils that help moisturize, repair and calm the skin.  Best of all?  This mask is perfect for any skin type! Dry, sensitive, oily-anyone can benefit-I’ve seen it for myself.  I have dry skin and my sister has oily and it does wonders for us both.  Oh, and did I mention the ingredients are 100% certified organic?  Yeah, and Josh goes to great lengths to ensure every ingredient is in its purest form when selected.  Check out his stance on ingredient integrity here. It’s really all about plant ingredients with Josh’s Products and for good reason.  These plants are living and active and offer such a similar composition to our own skin.  I believe it’s really how skincare is intended to be made-with the earth as it’s source.

As if the Cacao Antioxidant Mask wasn’t enough to make you swoon this month, there’s also another skin product in the box.  The sidekick this month is Josh’s Hydrating Accelerator. This is another Josh product that I’m quite familiar with and love.  This mist really does it all-from hydrating, toning and moisturizing.  The basis of the mist is aloe vera, which helps the skin absorb nutrients more efficiently and plumps up the overall texture of the skin.  Herbs also help to calm the skin and reduce redness.  I love spraying this on after cleansing before serums/oils and also before and after a mask.  A serious skincare must in my opinion!  Plus, this little tonic smells like vanilla, can you say mmm!  I’m addicted to the smell alone.  I even spray this throughout the day for a quick pick me up of hydration.

This month’s Beauty Heroes box had me swooning in every way!  I really can’t say enough about Josh and the integrity and quality of his products.  If you haven’t signed up for Beauty Heroes I suggest you do it today before this box sells out!  Also, if you are already a member don’t forget to check out the Beauty Heroes store.  Full of Beauty Hero products!  Have you used this month’s hero?

Josh Rosebrook Review

Josh Rosebrook Review

Ok, if you haven’t heard of Josh Rosebrook by now you’re really missing out…sorry but it’s just the truth!  Not only does Josh create hair products, but skincare products as well.  Some people can only master one or the other, but I’m here to say he’s successfully mastered both.  Not to mention he is a hair stylist, someone who knows hair creating hair products…hello!  I’ve tried a handful of his products, from hair to skincare, and have been left wanting more each time.  The amount of care and dedication that goes into each product Josh makes is truly a work of art.  He really takes green beauty to the next level!

The premise that the body heals itself is what Josh crafts his products from.  Whether in skincare, or hair, the body knows when to produce the correct amount of oils, when to exfoliate and when to cleanse.  Josh believes it’s our job to help the process along.  I love his whole concept and fully subscribe to it.  Another huge part of the products Josh creates is the ingredients.  There’s nothing toxic, or synthetic about them.  All ingredients from plants are 100% organic or wild harvested.  It’s very important that not only are the ingredients high quality, but that the ingredients work together to create something truly special.  Sign me up for this!

Josh really goes above and beyond.  There’s a whole tab on his website dedicated to explaining the ingredients and their sourcing.  You can be guaranteed there’s no animal testing that happens either.  It’s also important that all the ingredients are sourced from fair trade, fair prices and fair work.  I really could just go on…everything is covered and with great detail.  Going forward I hope more companies follow in Josh’s footsteps-not only creating incredible ethically sourced products, but also are as transparent about their whole process as he is.

So as I mentioned I’ve tried a slew of Josh’s products and I have been on the edge of my seat to give you the scoop!  There’s a mix of skincare and hair products and they’re all drool worthy.

Skincare: Herbal Infusion Oil-

Oh where do I start with this oil?  So many uses.  The first way I used it was as a cleanser.  I subscribe to the double cleansing method and this is the perfect oil cleanser to remove all my makeup and grime from the day.  I would just pump out a few drops and rub in circular motions all over my face.  I even used it on my eyes to remove eye makeup and there was no irritation.  Then I would get a washcloth wet and press all over my face to remove all the makeup.  My skin was so happy and fresh afterwards.  Another way I would use it was as a moisturizer.  I would pump a few drops in my hands and press all over my face and neck.  I would wake up with some seriously soft skin.  The smell is a subtle rose and so good.  This is great for any skin type, so soothing and gentle.  A must have in my skincare arsenal.   $44

Skincare: Active Enzyme Exfoliator-

Another good one.  This exfoliator uses a mechanical exfoliant of walnut shells, and also an enzyme exfoliant. Not only did my skin feel smooth after but it looked brighter!  It is chockfull of plant oils and active honey- a serious treat for the skin.  I’ve tried to pinpoint the smell and I’ve come to the conclusion it smells like black licorice to me-which I love or used too…haha.  So how did I use this bad boy?  I would squirt my skin first with Josh’s Hydrating Accelerator, per instructions to open up pores, then I would massage a small nickel size amount all over my face.  Then I let it set for 15 minutes, I found that was my sweet spot.  But you can do it up to an hour.  This is another must have!  If you’ve been looking for an exfoliant that leaves your skin feeling smooth but also looking bright-this is it.  $25

Skincare:  Oculus Eye Formula-

This eye treatment is genius.  It comes in a rollerball form, which I really dig.  It’s an oil and glides smoothly on the delicate eye area.  After applying I would use my ring finger(least muscles for tugging) and gently tap to blend in.  This Eye Formula is full of herbal actives, rich fatty acids, all working together to help fight inflammation, boost collagen and help the skin in it’s cell turnover.  Oh did I mention brighten and de-puff too?  Yeah, those biggies.  So what did I notice?  Well, I loved how it melted right into my eye area and wasn’t thick.  It felt light and airy on my eye area, which I really like too.  The smell is great, I could really smell the geranium in it.  I noticed in the morning my eye area seemed brighter.  A definite plus in my book!  $70

Skincare: Hydrating Accelerator-

Love this mist!  First the smell is insanely good, I may be guilty of just spraying this a little more than I should-can you blame me?  When something smells like vanilla bean and ylang ylang, you would go a little crazy too.  This mist is such a versatile product.  I use it before the Active Enzyme Exfoliator as I mentioned to open up pores.  I also used it before my serum to help it seep in, and throughout the day to moisture my skin and give it a boost.  Can’t get enough!  I spray it all around my face and then press in with my hands.  Get this, you will thank me-promise!  $32

Hair:  LIFT Hair Texture & Volume-

So let’s chat about hair now.  I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this product yet?!  Not sure where to start with this one either…it’s just so good!  This is the best volume/lift spray I’ve found on the market.  It literally makes things happen with your hair, and this is a bid deal coming from a stylist too and fellow fine haired chick.  I spray this on my towel dried hair and blow dry my head upside down.  You can also round brush, I alternate between the two.  What are you left with?  Some serious lift, just like the name suggests.  It creates the texture that gives you something to work with, and best of all it lasts!  Everyone needs this, if you have thick hair it helps give you that lift you need on top.  Fine/thin haired gals you know you need this.  An absolute must in my hair game at all times.  Oh and there’s even travel sizes in this now!  $22

Hair:  Hair Spray-

I reviewed this before, it’s just that good.  I know I sound like a broken record, but this is another must have product.  The best natural hairspray I’ve found peeps-let it be known!  It’s in pump form, there’s no aerosol that’s good…trust me(bad for you and the environment).   I love the smell!  It has a list of essential oils but the ones that stick out to me are the rosemary and lavender.  I love knowing exactly what I’m breathing in, no hidden fragrance!  Second, it doesn’t goop up when you spray.  It actually has a mist feel.  Yeah, pretty cool.  Lastly, it just works.  With my hair being fine and thin, this product delivers hold throughout the day, volume, and doesn’t get crunchy…you know what I’m talking about.  It’s just good stuff.  I would recommend this for anyone transitioning from a mainstream hairspray.  It’s going to give you the look and feel of what your used too.  You need it, trust me!  $22

Top Natural Exfoliants

Top Natural Exfoliants

This post has been a long time coming.  I’ve been testing and testing, to bring you guys the top natural exfoliants out there.  Well, I’m finally done and ready to spill my faves!  Before we get to the nitty gritty, let’s first chat about why it’s so important to exfoliate in the first place.

As we age, our skin’s regeneration process slows down, and are skin cells don’t turn over as quickly.  As a result, skin becomes more ruddy and dull looking.   To combat this, gentle exfoliation will help to slough off those dead skin cells, and give you that radiant complexion, because you’re revealing the freshest cells.  Not only that, but product actually is more effective when regular exfoliation is done.  Imagine if your skin never gets exfoliated, and is just sitting in it’s own pile of dead skin cells?  Sounds gross uh?!  Then when you try and put product on it’s not as effective because the old skin is getting in the way.  It also helps get rid of buildup of oils and dirt, which can turn into blackheads if left alone.  If this whole chat hasn’t convinced you of the importance of exfoliation, then maybe this will.  After exfoliation makeup goes on smoother, because all the dead skin is gone.  Are you seeing why it’s so important to exfoliate?

Now that you know why it’s so important to exfoliate, let’s discuss how to properly do it.  I know this may sound elementary to a lot of people, but trust me when I say it’s not!  I’ve seen too many people actually make their skin worse with exfoliation, versus better.  For starters, don’t scrub your face like you’re getting a stain out of carpet…you’ll scratch your face and cause some serious damage.  I’ve seen it time and time again as an esthetician, where clients would come in and their skin was raw!  An exfoliant generally has some sort of gritty texture or property to it-it’s what gets rid of those dead skin cells.  So you don’t need to add anymore than a little light pressure to your skin as you move your hands in small circular motions.  The exfoliant is doing the work, so you don’t have too!  Another piece of advice-don’t exfoliate more than 1-2 times per week.   Know your skin and follow it’s lead.  Maybe you only need it once per week.  Experiment a bit to find your sweet spot.  However, I would not recommend more than 2 times if you’re using a gritty scrub.  Any more than that and you could be disrupting your skin’s natural balance.

One last thing.  Why choose one of my top natural exfoliants over toxic ones?  It’s simple actually.  Many main stream exfoliants today are filled with plastic microbeads.  Yep, you heard me right!  These little plastic microbeads are so small that they slip right through water treatment facilities, and soak up toxic chemicals.  Just like all plastic, once they’re here, they’re not leaving.  Thankfully, many states have banned the sale of products with microbeads.  However, there are plenty that haven’t.  Make sure and check your label.  If it says  polyethylene or polypropylene, then it may contain microbeads.  Your best bet is just to snag one of my top natural exfoliant picks!

True Nature Botanicals Exfoliating Cleanser-

This cleanser is a great mild exfoliant-perfect for those with sensitive skin who can’t tolerate a heavy gritty exfoliant. This will give you a nice exfoliation, but nothing crazy.  It leaves your skin soft and smooth.  This mild exfoliant contains adsuki bean powder, known for its exfoliating properties, but with no irritation.  It gives the skin a polished clean look.  If you have sensitive skin, I highly recommend this gentle exfoliant!  Plus, I love that it comes in a glass pump bottle.  $48

Leahlani Skincare Honey Love Microdermabrasion 3-in-1 Cleanser, Mask and Exfoliant-

This beautiful product does it all!  It contains Corundum microdermabrasion crystals that aid in sloughing off all those dead skin cells.  This beauty is full of skin food like Hawaiian honey, hibiscus, chamomile and lavender flowers, and a special essential oil blend…oh and lots of love!  The texture is more gooey and smooth, not gritty.  If you want to use it as an exfoliant, just stir the jar since the crystals tend to settle at the bottom of the jar.  This gives you a very mild exfoliation, leaving your skin with a smooth and radiant look.  Your skin won’t feel dry or taut after using this.   This is especially good for skin that has been out in the sun or acne prone.  As a cleanser it’s just as amazing!  Just scoop the product out of the top, and gently rub off the day’s grime.  The Honey Love smells insanely good too!  In fact, you may want to eat it…no joke.  This is also a great affordable option.  Leahlani Skincare is about to launch their website Wednesday January 6th!  Check out their new products and packaging there.

Josh Rosebrook Active Enzyme Exfoliator-

If you haven’t heard of Josh Rosebrook, you’re missing out!  He not only knows skincare but hair as well.  His exfoliator is nothing short of amazing.  I noticed a brighter complexion, after the first use.  He uses both an enzyme exfoliant and a mechanical exfoliant in this baby.  The perfect blend of herb and fruit enzymes with the mechanical exfoliant of walnut shells, give skin the ultimate treat.  The texture is similar to a wet sugar mixture but with much finer granules.  It smells like black licorice to me-which I don’t mind.  A little goes a long way, so you’ll have this for a bit.  I like using Josh’s Hydrating Accelerator before applying the exfoliant-this helps to prep my skin by opening up my cells.  Massage gently onto skin, and leave on for 10 minutes to 1 hour for maximum benefit.  A great exfoliant for those with any skin type.  $60

Acure Brightening Facial Scrub-

Last but certainly not least is Acure’s Brightening Facial Scrub.  This scrub gets rave reviews from the green beauty community and for good reason-it works and it’s affordable.  First, it comes in a tube unlike other exfoliants.  It’s the most gritty out of all the exfoliants I’ve mentioned.  This is not only a great facial exfoliant but also body exfoliant.  I love using this before applying my self tanner.  It gets rid of everything and doesn’t leave behind an oily residue-which makes it perfect for sun-less tanner application.  Since this is such a gritty exfoliant, only a little is needed, and just use gentle circular motions as you work it into your skin.  It smells very earthy and green.  It will give your skin a brighter more even complexion.  A great affordable option, that can be found even at Target.  $  9.99

Well, that sums up my top natural exfoliant picks.  Have you used any of these?  What’s your favorite exfoliant?
