So I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how to create a natural skincare routine lately and just the order products should go in. I had done a couple Instagram stories and saved them to my highlights and had a flood of questions. So here we are- I knew it was time for a proper blog post on the subject.
If it’s one thing I want to drill home it’s the importance of having a skincare routine. It doesn’t mean your skincare routine will look like mine. Your routine should be based off your skin and what it needs. Now, figuring that out can seem a little more daunting. When do you use a certain product, how much, etc. It can be overwhelming. That’s where I come in! I’ve been an esthetician for over 14 years and I’ve learned a thing or two along the way.
Best Natural and Organic Skincare Routine
You don’t need every product but you do need effective products.
That being said, morning and nighttime skincare routines look different usually. I’m going to give a brief explanation of products you could use for your morning or nighttime skincare to get you familiar with your options.
Cleansers- A cleanser is meant to be the first step in your skincare routine. It helps to get rid of dirt, debris and get rid of makeup from the day. Of course there are many cleansers to choose from depending on your skin type. Some people like to double cleanse, others not so much. Whatever method or cleanser you choose just make sure that it adequately cleans your skin and you’re not left with any residue. I have a full blog post with all my favorites. Check it out!
Toner/Hydrosol- These terms are used interchangeably to describe a mist that you spray over your skin post cleansing. A true hydrosol contains plant actives. Some people will spray the mist directly on their skin and press in with their hands, others will spray on a cotton round and apply it in on their skin. Either way, a toner or hydrosol helps to calm skin, hydrate, keep pores open for serums/oil and specific skin treatments. A toner helps to also get rid of any oil or bits left from the cleanser, as well as balance the ph of skin.
Treatments- Treatments for the skin can range from anti-aging treatments, redness reducing treatments, hyper pigmentation targeting, and acne treatments. Theses are going to be filled with active ingredients that are really going to perform. Think antioxidants! It really depends on what result you’re looking for in your skin. These aren’t going to necessarily hydrate your skin. Most are made out of water or aloe, some contain oil, but few. They penetrate the skin quickly and feel almost like a gel. They absorb into your skin, opposed to creams that generally sit on top of your skin. The absorption happens easier because serums are smaller in molecular size and easier to penetrate the skin and deliver nutrients. Serums happen after toning or hydrosol when skin’s pores are still open. I have a full blog post on all my favorite serums for the skin here!
Oils- After a serum, now it’s time for an oil. There has been a resurgence of oils in the last 5 years. People used to be afraid of them, but now they are learning how hydrating and restorative they can be for the skin. Just remember not every oil is created equal. Some are comedogenic and can actually clog your pores or cause you to breakout. For example, coconut oil is comedogenic and can actually cause many people to breakout. If you’re not sure about the comedogenic rating look it up or ask the formulator. Oils are very hydrating and can keep the moisture intact for a long time. A great pick for those with dry skin.
Skin Creams/Lotions- Many people aren’t sure what the difference is between an oil, a cream and a lotion. Allow me to explain. An oil is just that- just an oil- nothing added. A cream has a mix of water and oil, but more oil than water and then a lotion is also a mixture of water and oil but the higher percentage is water- which makes it thinner. Creams are great at protecting the skin, especially after applying an oil and if you need additional moisture. I like doing them at night. A lotion is good for in the morning when you want some hydration but don’t want to be too greasy from an oil.
Balms- Balms are another product that really has been popping up all over in the skincare industry over the last two years. Balms are primarily used for intense hydration and protection. In the winter they are great for protecting skin from wind and cold. They are more concentrated than a lotion or cream. A lot of formulators like them because they are usually waterless and therefore don’t need preservatives to keep them fresh. A little goes a long way with a balm- so you don’t need as much as you would with a lotion or cream.
Eye Cream/Oil- Eye products come in a variety of formulas. From creams to oils and even some that are more like a serum. I prefer an oil or serum myself because I suffer from milia. Tiny hard white cysts under the skin. They can form when keratin gets trapped under the skin. I try and stay away from heavy products for the eyes as I’ve noticed they can lead to more. If your under eye area is really dry then you would want to opt for a heavier eye cream or nourishing oil. Some eye oils or serums I’ve found to be oilier than others. I have a full blog post coming on my faves that I’ve been working on forever! I like mine to absorb fairly quickly too.
Exfoliants- Exfoliants are so crucial to effective skincare- can’t recommend them enough! If your skin is dead on top, whatever products you put on top of your skin aren’t going to be able to penetrate and perform. There are many different types of exfoliants. From mechanical, enzyme and chemical exfoliants. Mechanical exfoliants use some sort of manual grain or seeds to manually remove the dead skin. Enzyme exfoliants is similar to chemical exfoliation but much gentler. It breaks down the glue that holds together dead skin. It uses active ingredients like papain, papaya and pineapple to slough off the dead skin. Enzyme exfoliation is great for someone with sensitive skin. There’s no actual manual exfoliant involved. Another type is chemical exfoliation. Chemical exfoliation is stronger than enzyme exfoliation. It uses Alpha Hydroxy Acids(AHA’s) or Beta Hydroxy Acids(BHA’s). AHA’s are not as strong as BHA’s. A lot of peels are considered chemical exfoliants. Chemical exfoliants are great for those with oily skin and acne.
Masks- Love a good mask! Masks are like giving your skin a good shot of nutrients at once. Similar to drinking a really nutrient dense green juice for your body. There are so many benefits to masking. From detoxification, unclog pores, glowing skin, minimizing redness, hydration- the list goes on! It’s great to have different masks for different seasons of life too. In the winter you may need a hydrating mask more. In the summer, a detoxification mask- each season can bring a new set of skincare challenges. Some masks are quick and are just meant to give your skin a glow in 5 minutes before a big event or date.
Ok, now that you’ve just been schooled on all skincare products, let’s break down what you actually need in your skincare routine.
So it really depends on what you want your outcome to be. Do you want your skin to just feel clean, and hydrated? Maybe you’re not into all the extras but just want a clean skincare routine that meets the basic needs and that’s it. Or maybe you want to fade hyper pigmentation, minimize redness and increase collagen- ok then you’re probably going to need a few more products! Think about your end goal when it comes to your skin and that will help guide you to the products you need.

Best Natural and Organic Morning Skincare Routine
My Skincare Routine:
AM- (In Order)
Best Natural and Organic Night time Skincare Routine
PM- (In Order)
- Cleanse- I cleanse my skin with one cleanser typically. I used to oil cleanse, but I’ve found I really love a cleanser that does it all in one step and that I can remove easily with just water and not a washcloth. A couple of my favorite cleansers in green beauty that do that are- OSEA Ocean Cleanser, an amazing cleanser that leaves my skin feeling balanced, not stripped, removes all my makeup and rinses off easily with water. I also love Marie Veronique’s Cleansing Oil. It acts like an oil cleanser but emulsifies(suds up) ever so slightly. It’s great! It also removes all my eye makeup and everything easily and rinses off with water.
- Toner/Hydrosol- I use the same toner for my skin at night that I do in the morning generally. Unless I’m testing out several at once. My top pick would be Maya Chia’s the Optimist!
- Exfoliant- Next I will exfoliate if I need too. I generally exfoliate twice a week. People can over exfoliate, creating disruptions to their natural ph. I love Josh Rosebrook’s Active Enzyme Exfoliant, and Laurel’s Honey Berry Enzyme Mask. The Active Enzyme Exfoliant includes manual exfoliants using walnut shells and it incorporates enzymes as well. The Honey Berry Enzyme Mask is great for those with sensitive skin as it uses enzymes to exfoliate.
- Mask- I generally mask two to three times per week. If it’s a day for a mask I’ll do it after toning or exfoliating. My mask varies depending on what my skin needs. For a good all around mask, I recommend Leahlani Mermaid Mask, for lightening and detoxification I recommend Mahalo’s The Bean Antioxidant Mask, for skin problems I love May Linstrom’s The Problem Solver Mask. For a full review of my favorite masks- check out my blog post here.
- Treatment/Serum- Next I will apply a treatment or serum. For me this is usually my True Botanical’s Cellular Repair Serum and Antioxidant Booster. These two have literally helped change my skin and given me tangible results! The Cellular Repair Serum goes past the outer most layer of the skin to really get in and provide all the nutrients the skin needs. The Antioxidant Booster is a powder and isn’t activated until you mix it with a liquid. I love this because then you are endured you’re getting the most potent and active ingredients right away! Most antioxidant treatments are liquid and are not as effective since they’ve already been activated. I apply my Cellular Repair Serum first. Then I mix my Antioxidant Booster with my oil. This helps the Antioxidant Booster to absorb better into the skin, compared to mixing it with the Cellular Repair Serum.
- Oil- Now time for an oil! I have been using Laurel’s Anti-Inflammatory Serum especially coming off the summer months.
- Eye Cream/Serum- Next I apply my eye serum or eye cream. I’ve been using Odacite’s B+S Eye Serum for a while and love it! It isn’t super oily, absorbs nicely and my eyes look refreshed and revived in the morning. Can’t recommend it enough.
- Lips- Ok, last but not least I apply Odacite’s Lip Serum. I love this lip serum! It helps to hydrate, minimize fine lines on the lips and plump. I love applying as my last step in my skincare routine. My lip’s nightly nightcap!
That sums up my skincare routine! Now it’s time to create your own. I’ve created this free download for you to be able to see what products work for different skin types. I have something for sensitive, dry/normal, and combination/oily. Click the photo below to download!

My updated True Botanicals Review is here. A lot has changed for this luxe line, since I last reviewed it. From product changes, name changes and new products-a lot’s been going on for TB! I couldn’t be more excited for all the newness!
When I think of TB what sticks out to me is a luxe anti-aging line. Using the most potent ingredients, TB spares no expense when it comes to creating their products. They care about quality and seeing products that actually perform, while at the same time are safe. A truly unique company in the green beauty industry. The scents of their products are some of the best. Nothing is too strong but smells fresh and real. I also love how they do clinical tests on their products. Something that is rare among the natural skincare industry. Proven results, with clean ingredients-what more could you want? Oh and I can’t forget to mention that all their products come in frosted glass bottles, can you say luxurious? Not only do they make skincare products but also some stellar body products. I tried out the shampoo and conditioner, body wash and lotion and they’re all winners!
TB is also one of the first companies to become Made Safe Certified. A new certification done by third party testing that ensures toxins stay out of products. Another exciting piece of news from TB headquarters is their Clear Collection just passed clinical trials against Proactiv+. Making it the go to skincare line for acne. Most lines dry out your skin in hopes of combatting acne. But with TB’s Clear Collection it actually kills bacteria that could be causing flare ups and breakouts. The products create balance in your skin, unlike most acne treatment lines. Say hello to your new favorite acne skincare line that delivers. Check out the full clinical trial results here! As they say the proof is in the pudding!
TB was started by Hillary Peterson. She was a long time lover of luxury skincare. However, she realized the price she was paying for luxury skincare also cost her toxic ingredients. Having been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, she knew a change needed to be made. After 8 years of research with chemists, studying botanicals and talking with sustainability experts, she created True Botanicals. Her goal was to make skincare products that were not only effective but clean. Well she did it and since then has won some awards…
True Botanicals’ rule-breaking approach to luxury skin care and ability to bring together superior results and safety has earned it ELLE magazine’s coveted Genius award and placement at several of the world’s top spas.
If you’re unsure of what line to commit to in TB, then take their online quiz here. They’ve made it easy to help you decide what line suits your skin best. Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated. If it’s one thing I’ve learned from using TB products it’s that skincare needs two things to be great, clean and effective. TB offers both.
Ok, so want to know what I thought about TB’s new products and line in general? Well then sit back and take notes-it’s about to get good!
*A little disclaimer- my skin type is normal to dry so I use the RENEW line by TB. They have 3 different lines depending on your skin type. RENEW is for Normal skin. CLEAR is for acne-prone and CALM is for rosacea -prone skin. As I said earlier, take the quiz to see what products would best suit your skin.
This cleanser is milky in consistency. I apply it to damp skin and rub it all over in circular motions, even over my eye makeup. I double cleanse with this cleanser or use a balm before it and then use the Hydrating Cleanser second. It leaves your skin so smooth and not dry at all. Your skin feels balanced all over. So many cleansers blast your face and your skin is literally crying out for moisture-not the case with this cleanser. I love the mild earthy smell of jasmine and grapefruit. If you’ve been searching for a cleanser that balances your skin and removes all the junk this is your gem! Grab your bottle here!
This is such a different exfoliant and I love it! Unlike many exfoliants that contain beads or harsh exfoliating agents, the Polishing Grains is the opposite. It uses adsuki beans, kaolin clay, and rosehip powder to gently exfoliate your skin. To use I mix 2 shakes in with the Hydrating Cleanser and rub in circular motions all over my face. My skin feels polished and smooth when I’m done. Not stripped or dry. This is a totally customizable exfoliation too. If you want more exfoliation, add a little more product, if you want less, add less. If it’s been hard to find an exfoliant that’s just right, then this may be your answer. Snag your bottle here!
This mist…I literally love the smell! It never gets old. Fresh smelling, not overly powerful. With jasmine, tuberose, and neroli, the whole combination just works! TB is serious about delivering even when it comes to it’s mists. This mist is packed with active ingredients like kombucha that detoxifies skin and balances ph. Plus, algae extract with it’s high omega 3’s and 6’s that protect skin from moisture loss, fix cellular damage and fill with fluid. Oh and did I mention the base isn’t made up of water but of Green Tea and White Tea? Yeah, they’re pretty much all stars when it comes to skin. Not only are they skin soothing, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory, they’re also anti-aging ingredients-hello! Yeah, you could say this mist is jam packed with some serious goodness. Get your mist here!
This serum-another good one. I mean am I sounding like a broken record yet? This serum is designed to reverse the cellular damage caused by sun exposure and aging. Pretty sure everyone wants to sign up for that-am I right?! Besides reversing cellular damage it also replenishes moisture and plumps up skin. It’s highly concentrated and goes past the surface of the skin to really get to the cellular level. Most serums sit at the top of the skin-not TB’s. Another thing I love about this serum is it’s ability to calm redness and ease congestion. My skin looks clearer over all and more even toned. I apply it after toning/misting my skin. Since it’s a serum my skin doesn’t feel moisturized but slightly dewy. This is a serum that is going to work for your skin everyday. An anti-aging, redness reducing serum all rolled into one. Invest in your skin and grab your’s here!
Where do I start with this oil? Gahh…I really love it. It’s their number 1 product and for good reason. It seeps right into your skin, leaves behind no greasy residue, and makes your skin feel hydrated throughout the day and night. Besides being highly hydrating it also helps smooth wrinkles, shrink large pores and fight free radical damage. I love the scent as well. Not heavy at all, but with notes of frankincense, neroli, rose and jasmine. Many people wonder what makes this oil so special, here’s a blurb from TB on their website that explains it so well-
When therapeutic oils are applied to the skin without the interference of waxes, they can be absorbed directly into the top layers of the epidermis, where they instantly go to work to improve lipid barrier function. By replenishing the oils you’ve lost due to natural attrition and exposure, you enable your skin to properly do its job: hold moisture in and keep the elements, like sun and wind, out.
So many people are afraid of oils who suffer from acne. Oils are actually necessary and help create balance in the skin. This oil, as with all of TB’s products is also available in the CLEAR Line and CALM Line. Grab your bottle here and thank me later!
This mask does exactly what it says- it moisturizes and exfoliates. It’s a gel consistency. It gets rid of all the dead skin and reveals that inner glow(aka new skin). I leave mine on for 5 minutes. It’s especially great right before a big event or night out when you want your skin to be glowing. It also gives you an even smooth canvas for flawless makeup application. You won’t be disappointed with this mask-Get yours here!
Who doesn’t love a good 2 for 1 product?! Well TB’s Smoothing Eye and Lip Jar fits the bill perfectly. Not only can you use this to hydrate your lips, but also under your eyes. It smoothes, hydrates and plumps up the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. With power house ingredients like carrot seed oil, grapeseed oil and evening primrose oil, this little jar is filled with some serious goodness. You can also layer this over TB’s Eye Serum for increased results. Get your jar here!
This vitamin c treatment is preserved in it’s freshest form. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps to even skin tone, brighten and fade wrinkles, stimulate collagen, plus firm and repair skin. I mean every face needs this stuff. You might be wondering why it comes in a powder form. When vitamin c is mixed with a liquid it slowly loses potency. By keeping it in powder form you can be assured it’s in it’s freshest form. Combine 1 to 2 shakes of the Vitamin C Booster with one of TB’s serums and mix until dissolved. Then apply to skin and let seep in. Watch as your skin takes on a whole new look-for real. This stuff is potent and works. My skin looks brighter and more even, just after a month of application. Grab your Vitamin C Booster here!
I’ve been using this eye serum since they first introduced it last spring and I’ve been hooked. It is so concentrated and rich. A little goes a long way. It literally lasts forever since you need such little product. I just dab a drop around my eye area with my ring finger(least amount of muscles). My eye area is hydrated and puffiness is minimized. My eyes look rested and brightened. Again, TB takes it to the next level with their eye serum. Unlike most eye serums that sit on the surface, TB’s actually goes deep into the skin to repair skin at the cellular level. You can say goodbye to crows feet! Get your Eye Serum here!
If you’ve thought that no natural shampoo and conditioner will work for your hair, think again. The shampoo suds up like a mainstream shampoo, but without the harsh chemicals. The conditioner doesn’t leave that greasy oil residue…you know that feeling I’m talking about! Need, I say more? Not really, but I will because I just can’t help myself! It smells insanely good, fresh like everything they make does. They also come in recyclable metal bottle pumps, that literally look so luxe in the shower. I promise you won’t be disappointed, this stuff is amazing and worth every penny, and that says a lot coming from a stylist. Get your shampoo and conditioner here!
Guys, even body products TB nails! The body wash lathers up perfectly. Giving you that fresh clean feeling. The scent is perfect too, smells clean but not overwhelming. The lotion is the same. Scent is spot on and makes my skin feel hydrated without any added greasiness. Did I mention they just came out with a travel size kit? It includes the shampoo and conditioner, body wash and lotion-it’s sort of amazing! Grab your travel kit, body wash and lotion here!
Phew, ok bottom line from the review-this line is here to stay and seriously performs. If you want clean skincare, that produces results, then True Botanicals is your ticket!
Have you used any of their products? What are your faves?
So I’ve been on the edge of my seat to finally share my Maya Chia review with you guys! If you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen me post about Maya Chia and talk non-stop about them on my stories. I’ve refrained myself from sharing too much on the newest products I’ve tried because I didn’t want to give away all the juicy deets! I was first introduced to Maya Chia through my Beauty Heroes Box in January. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t tried them until then. Shame on me I know.
What makes Maya Chia SO special?? I thought you would never ask! Well, so many reasons. They’re just really good skincare for starters, but there’s so many other things that set them apart. The all star ingredient in Maya Chia is the supercritical chia oil. Not only is chia oil heralded for it’s fast absorbing ability, but also for it’s antioxidants, minerals, and omega’s-a skin’s dream team! You can say bye to fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, it has clinically been proven to increase hydration. This is a quote taken from Maya Chia’s site on chia seed and antioxidants-
The Nutritional Science Research Institute tested the nutritional value of chia seed and said it contains “the highest amount of antioxidants we have ever measured” and cited chia as one of the most powerful whole food antioxidants we know.
All I have to say is give me all the chia seeds! Not only does Maya Chia use this all star ingredient throughout their whole line, but they have a patent on a specific extraction process called the supercritical extraction. The extraction process creates the purest oil that resembles chia oil in it’s original state, because no solvents, or oxygen are used. You can be sure the chia oil is free of chemicals and of the highest quality. I mean does it get any better?! I love the analogy Maya Chia uses on their website to distinguish between other chia oils on the market. They used the example of wine and how wines differ based on region, when the grapes are picked, how wine is processed-so many factors. Same with chia oil. All those variations that go into making chia oil make a big difference in the quality of oil you get in the end. Not to mention their products are organic or wild crafted-only the best!
I love hearing how a brand gets started and Maya Chia has quite a story. The founder Suzanne Norwitz went from the corporate ladder to pursue her passion in creating the best quality skincare. She was also interested in the Mayan people, that began with her father. He is a surgeon and would go to Guatemala to operate on Mayan’s with clef lip palates. She even has two step children now that were both born in Guatemala. Her love for the culture grew and she discovered the power of chia in the Mayan culture. Thus, Maya Chia was born!
Ok, I could go on and on but you might stop reading, so let’s cut to the chase. Keep reading to hear why I can’t get enough of this amazing skincare line!
The Great Cleanse-
This cleanser is so good. First of all the packaging-on point. Dark glass pump bottle, preserves every last drop. It’s an oil cleanser. So you apply it on dry skin and rub in circular motions all over. It removes all my makeup effortlessly-yes even the stubborn eye makeup. When I’m ready to rinse it off I apply the slightest amount of water and rub it over my face. It really helps to break up anything lingering. It has the slightest emulsification when adding the water-which I love! Then I rinse with warm water and it comes off easily. A lot of oil cleansers you have to really rub off with a washcloth to get the product off but not with this cleanser. It’s so nice to have it come off so easy. My skin feels perfectly balanced after cleansing-not too dry or oily. I’m obsessed with this cleanser! Did I mention it smells amazing? Hints of lavender and chamomile pair together beautifully. And yes, the supercritical chia oil is the first ingredient! Plus, this cleanser is only $38-a serious steal for luxe skincare. If you’ve been searching for the IT cleanser-then you just found it. Get it here and thank me later!
The Super Blend- Pressed Serum Moisture Concentrate-
Another winner that must be talked about in my Maya Chia review-I know this might start to sound repetitive. This Pressed Serum is just all around delightful. Although it is a serum it feels more like a balm to me. A lot of people often ask why use a balm. Oh so many reasons! Balms are especially great for in the winter when skin needs extra protection from the elements. This product in particular is an anti-aging powerhouse with ingredients like asthaxanthin- a power house antioxidant, Vitamin C and CoQ10. These ingredients work together to give your skin a radiance. Seriously, give this product a couple weeks and you will see what I’m talking about. My skin felt so even, smooth and soft. Many balms can make your skin feel dry in the morning but not this one. My skin felt so hydrated and not greasy. A little goes a long way with this baby too. And the smell…ahhh SO amazing! You’ll seriously want to inhale-be warned. I applied this in upward strokes at night after cleansing and toning. I didn’t need an additional moisturizer and my skin tends to be dry. I especially loved using this when I was sick around my nose. No raw, red nose because it was so protected using this. Again another product that I can’t recommend enough! Snag your Super Blend- Pressed Serum here!
The Super Couple-
Ok, so this is the serum that started my infatuation with Maya Chia! I did a whole YouTube video on this product. You can watch it here. So why all the fuss? Well, for starters it melts right into your skin. No oily residue at all. Perfect for at night, and during the day before makeup. It evens my skin tone out and my skin never looked better-I know big statement but it’s true. I have this one spot on my left cheek side and it has some hyper pigmentation and it faded quite a bit after I had been using Maya Chia. My skin looked less red and just overall smooth. Trust me when I say I get a lot of product to sample as a beauty blogger, so when I actually go through a product it’s a big deal. This serum is on the last few drops. It has the same anti-aging benefits as the Super Blend-Pressed Serum Moisture Concentrate. Filled with vitamin C, CoQ10 and the beloved antioxidant asthaxanthin. This serum doesn’t mess around and truly delivers! Great for even the most sensitive skin types. I even use it under my eyes and it works. Say goodbye to dark circles. Guys, this stuff is the real deal. It has a slight pinkish color which actually gives your skin a glow-I love it! If you’ve been looking for an anti-aging serum that delivers then look no more-Grab your bottle here!
The Pure Supercritical Omega-3 Chia Oil-
So I tried this oil after trying The Super Couple. I had lower expectations- is that wrong? I mean I was so impressed with The Super Couple. But I must admit this serum, completely amazing too. It’s heavier feeling and more moisturizing than The Super Couple Serum. Especially great for those with dry skin that can’t quite get hydrated. It also works amazing on fine lines. Although it is heavier, it still absorbs so well. Your skin feels plump and soft. Even a dry patch around my nose didn’t stand a chance with this oil. It calmed even my normal redness around my t-zone I get. A rich, extremely hydrating oil, that absorbs quickly, doesn’t feel greasy, and makes you look younger…what are you waiting for?! This is great for even the most sensitive skin. Get your Pure Supercritical Omega-3 Chia Oil here!
The Highlight of The Day-
My Maya Chia review wouldn’t be complete without talking about these little guys! Where do I start?! I’ve fallen hard for them. So what is The Highlight of The Day? It is this bottle filled with liquid radiance- I know sounds too good to be true, but it’s not. It comes in two shades. Golden hour- a golden, warm champagne radiance and Happy Hour- a cool pink toned radiance. You apply it really however you want! I love applying mine on my upper cheek bone, bridge of my nose, in the upper middle section of my brows, cupid’s bow, and middle of chin. All the normal places you would use a traditional highlighter. You can even apply it on the inner corners of your eyes to wake them up. You can apply it over your foundation or mix it with your foundation or just where it by itself. I’ve done them all, and love the effect it gives. You literally look like your lit from within. I have both shades and equally love how they both look. As a mom, these have been serious game changers! I look more awake and they last. I can’t wait to mix them in my body oil in the summer for an all over body glow! Below you’ll find a photo of me wearing Happy Hour. If you can’t decide which to get, just get both here!
The Revitalizer, Beautifying Supercritical Body Oil-
This body oil smells heavenly. I apply it right after the shower and it soaks right into my skin. The moisture lasts too! My skin feels hydrated throughout the day. Did I mention the packaging? Dark glass pump bottle-swoon worthy. I’ve been using this non-stop and can’t get enough. I love how I smell afterwards, a mixture of rose and neroli, but not strong at all. You can grab your bottle here!
Supercritical Chia Waterless Wonder Balm-
Ok, last product! This balm I got in my Beauty Heroes box as the sidekick. It was a special edition scent for Beauty Heroes. The balm itself is definitely a wonder. I couldn’t get enough. From my dry hands, feet, even my elbows, this balm seals in all the moisture. No greasy residue is left behind. My skin feels so hydrated, but the kind of hydration where you aren’t grabbing for the next moisturizing product. This is all you need. If you haven’t found anything that will give you that moisture you crave, then do yourself a favor and grab this balm-your skin will thank you!
Ok, so that concludes my Maya Chia review. They have seven products and I’ve tried them all- I know obsessive. But guys, honestly they are all stand outs and serious winners! I don’t often devote whole reviews to lines but when they’re this good I can’t not share. If you have any questions on any of the products, leave them in the comments- would love to help you! This is one skincare line that is here to stay!
Have you used Maya Chia-what’s your favorite product?
Oh guys I was busting at the seems to share August Beauty Hero with you! It’s that good. Laurel Whole Plant Organics is in a league all by itself. This is the second time this year Laurel has been featured in Beauty Heroes-coincedence? I think not. The whole line is that good! This skincare line is based on flowers and herbs. The line is 100% organic, raw and unrefined, and sources from bio-dynamic farms- I mean hello does it get any better?! No fillers in this line, all formulas are water and alcohol free. I love that the Laurel line is not only pure to the core, but also deeply rooted in creating a spa like ritual for yourself in the process. Taking time to savor the experience not only for your skin but for your mind.
I had to share this quote on Laurel’s website:
“As we are awakening and learning where our food comes from, this is also a time to be aware of where our skin care comes from, how it’s made, and what is in it. The most effective skin care is raw, organic, farm sourced, handcrafted and made with love. It’s time to raise the bar for skin care ingredients.”
Laurel sets the bar high and does not disappoint. This month it’s all about pure wholesome ingredients, and taking to time for yourself to savor them. If you aren’t familiar with Beauty Heroes, then read on to learn more about this luxe monthly beauty service.
Beauty Heroes was founded by Jeannie Jarnot. A longtime spa director herself and healthy beauty expert. I had the pleasure of meeting Jeannie at IBE, and she is truly one of the sweetest people. Beauty Heroes is a monthly beauty service that selects only the best clean beauty brands. Each month you can find one to two full size truly heroic products in each box. I absolutely love their “Use Less, Love More” philosophy. By only getting one or two products, you allow yourself to truly experience them. Of course you can trust their picks, as they are strict on their integrity standards. What’s not to love about this whole concept? I recently joined Beauty Heroes as an Ambassador, and couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of such a movement.
So what Laurel products did I have the pleasure of trying out this month? Sun Damage Repair Serum, Honey Berry Enzyme Mask, and Before and After Sun Body Oil.
Sun Damage Repair Serum-
This serum is a one of a kind product. Who doesn’t have sun damage? I’m raising both hands. This little serum packs a serious punch towards fading hyper-pigmentation and freckles. It has 27 active ingredients, helping to promote skin rejuvenation and give you that glow we all crave. The scarlet pimpernel flower does wonders to help reverse the signs of aging. Not to mention, organic licorice and carrot seed oil(packed with vitamin A). It doesn’t stop there. Not only does this serum help with current sun damage, but it also has red raspberry seed oil, jojoba and cranberry seed oil that protect for future sun damage. The whole serum is off the charts. It melts into your skin and leaves behind the scent of rosehip and sandalwood. This is a must have item for anyone looking to transform their skin! $72
Honey Berry Enzyme Mask-
I’ve had the pleasure of sampling this mask in the past and it was gone too quick! It smells amazing, like your favorite berry jam. It does wonders to awaken the skin and gently exfoliate. Say goodbye to dull looking skin with this baby. The ingredients again are so good. Raw honey, and raw royal jelly, are just a few that make this mask truly decadent. Not only does my skin look brighter, and more even after using, but I love knowing that it’s fighting signs of anti-aging with it’s super antioxidant vitamin b found in royal jelly. This is a cult favorite from Laurel’s line and for good reason! $44
Before and After Sun Body Oil-
This body oil not only helps protect skin naturally from the sun’s harmful rays, but it also helps to soothe and bring healing after being exposed to the sun. It’s not a complete sun protectant but it does have avocado oil, red raspberry seed and coconut oil, all ingredients that have been proven to help prevent sun damage. I really love applying the oil after sun exposure. I felt it helped to heal my skin and bring relief to my sun worn shoulders. Plus, it minimized peeling action. This is a luxe body oil all around. The perfect oil in your beach bag for pre and post sun exposure. $80

Have you used Laurel products before? What’s your fave?
So excited to finally share with you all the Root Collection-Island Oasis! Krista from Root was so kind to ask us to collaborate on a collection. I couldn’t think of a better person to collab. with then my good friend Molly from MaisonPur. We created this collection together, and I’m pretty proud of how it turned out! Our theme, Island Oasis, was inspired by the Spring 2016 runways, which were filled with island themed clothes and makeup looks. The makeup colors were aqua greens and blues for eyes, and pale pink lips and cheeks. We gathered the inspiration and looks, and Krista went to work creating the collection. Let’s just say she nailed it! I was so excited to see it in the mailbox and start playing with all the colors…a kid in a candy store. The colors evoke Island Oasis and have me excited for warmer weather!
I’ve been a fan of Root for quite some time now. I love Krista’s whole philosophy and how she’s so involved in the whole process of her creations.
I believe 110% that the makeup you wear to achieve professional results doesn’t have to be full of harmful chemicals & cost you a fortune. Why sacrifice your health for beauty when you don’t have to?” Krista Dolash, Founder of Root
Not only are Root’s products not filled with chemicals but they’re affordable. Plus, they offer everything, so it can be your one stop shop. How cool is that?! Clean, affordable and carries everything-Root has got it going on.
Let’s talk about the collection!
4 Pressed Eyeshadows-
1 Pretty Balm-
Here is the Island Oasis look I created using all Root products(every bit of makeup is from them)-
I have loved creating this collection! There are so many ways to wear it, from subtle to extreme and everywhere in between. As I mentioned above, we also had the privilege of sampling a ton of Root makeup as well. The whole look was created using just Root products. Besides the collection, a few standouts I have to mention are the mascara, brow pomade and liquid liner. These are serious faves now and have been on rotation in my makeup bag. The liquid liner lasts all day and I love how they use a felt tip applicator versus a brush-so much easier for application in my opinion. I also have fallen hard for their mascara. My lashes are full, and it adds some serious length. I’m also digging the brow pomade. My brows are filled in, but stay in place too. I love how you can put all the containers in an easy to use Z palette. Makes it so easy to travel with all my essentials!
The Island Oasis Collection will pre-release Wednesday May 4th at the Indie Beauty Expo!! There will be a discount at IBE too. I’ll bet there and hope to see as many of you as possible. Then Friday May 6th it will be available online on their website here. Don’t miss out on this amazing collection! Plus, grab all your other Root loot here!
