Natural Beauty For Spring Break

Natural Beauty For Spring Break

Time to share some of my top picks in natural beauty for spring break!  Some have spring break in the next couple weeks, others have it in a month.  Either way, it’s time for my top picks!  Each year I find some new items that I can’t wait to share with you for Spring Break.  Whether it’s a sunscreen, new lip color or cute beach bag.

This year is no different, I was so excited to finally share all my top picks!  Something for everyone.  Natural beauty just keeps getting better and better.

Maya Chia Highlight of The Day-

Who doesn’t want a little glow on vacation?  These little bottles are filled with liquid radiance- I know sounds too good to be true, but it’s not.  It comes in several shades.  You really can’t go wrong with any of them.  You apply it really however you want!  I love applying mine on my upper cheek bone, bridge of my nose, in the upper middle section of my brows, cupid’s bow, and middle of chin.  All the normal places you would use a traditional highlighter.  You can even apply it on the inner corners of your eyes to wake them up.  You can apply it over your foundation or mix it with your foundation or just where it by itself.  I’ve done them all, and love the effect it gives.  You literally look like your lit from within.  As a mom, these have been serious game changers!  I look more awake and they last.  I can’t wait to mix them in my body oil in the summer for an all over body glow!  Get one here- you will look like your glowing!

Beautycounter Lip Sheers

Beautycounter lip sheers are the perfect subtle moisturizing lip!

Beautycounter Lip Sheers-

So this isn’t new if you follow me.  I’m obsessed with these little guys.  They offer moisture but aren’t as glossy as a lip gloss. The color is subtle and pretty.   Great for beach and pool days when you want something understated, yet still want to look polished.  I love the color Petal.  The perfect pale pink.  There’s no redness in it.  I can’t stop wearing it!  Goes with everything.  I also love Poppy, and Rose.  Can’t wait to try more!  Check out all the colors here!

All Good Sunscreen-

This sunscreen has been a staple the last two years.  Everything about it, from ease of application to, great sun protection- it checks all the boxes and then some.  Plus, the ingredients are clean!  Often it’s easy to hit two of the boxes but not all of them.  Not with All Good sunscreen!  Not only is it organic, but non-gmo, gluten free, vegan and coral reef friendly.  It uses the mineral zinc oxide to block the suns rays.  It’s also water and sweat resistant up to 80 min. too.  But the real kicker- it comes in a clean spray! Yes, you heard me right.  There is a spray sunscreen that is clean.  Instead of using toxic chemicals for the propellant like most spray sunscreens they use a combination of jojoba and nitrogen(something that is already in the atmosphere).  The ease of use with a spray can’t be beat- it’s amazing!  The sprays come in a kid’s version that has an spf of 30 and adult version with spf 30.  I’ve used them both and can say they work so well.  They also carry sunscreen in tubes, in butter sticks with spf 50, in tins with spf 50, in lip balm form and even in large family sizes.  If you’ve been searching for a clean, effective sunscreen- this is it.  It takes the cake in every area.  Snag some here!

Beautycounter Hydrating Body Lotion in Citrus Mimosa-

This body lotion smells SO good!  I also love that it comes in a tube.  So easy for travel.  It’s big enough for my whole family too, which I love.  On trips I find everyone has drier skin from the pool or ocean and just being out in the sun.  This lotion solves dry skin quick.  Plus, it smells like the tropics!  Safe for pregnancy too.  Snag it here!

Primally Pure Charcoal Deodorant

This Primally Pure Charcoal natural Deodorant keeps me smelling fresh all day long!

Primally Pure Deodorant-

When temps get warmer, we all want to still feel fresh when it comes to our underarms.  Primally Pure Charcoal deodorant is seriously the bomb.com when it comes to keeping you smelling fresh all day long!  Even my hubs can attest to it’s greatness.  We both can’t stop using it.  We don’t experience any irritation either.  Trust me, it’s SO good!  Get it here!

Aila Nail Polish

Love Aila Nail Polish! Best natural nail polish.

Aila Nail Polish-

Hands down my favorite nail polish in clean beauty!  It lasts longer than any nail polish, is free of the nasties, and the shades are just so darn pretty.  Plus, their Better Than Gel Top Coat is the best top coat in clean beauty.  It rates a 1 on the EWG and literally makes your polish last like a gel polish.  It’s the real deal.  I’m crushing on the nail polish colors in California Love, Tiddlywink Tea, and Roze.  My tried and true faves are Bodega, Room 212, and Namaste.  Get your tootsies pretty for the sun!

Beautycounter Toning Pads

These toning pads by Beautycounter are rocking my world!

Beautycounter Rejuvenating Toner Pads-

I’ve been using these for a month and I can’t stop.  I haven’t found anything like them in natural beauty.  They are a toner pad.  So it’s a cotton pad that already has the toning elixir on it.  You just take a pad and wipe it all over your fave.  It Instantly  refreshes your skin.  I love that I can see how clean my skin actually is!  It shows if I’m really cleansing my skin well enough.  Plus, these are perfect in warm weather when we tend to get a little sweaty.  I love having these on hand to wipe away the sweat quick so it doesn’t just sit on my skin and cause…you know breakouts.  Trust me, you’ll love them!  Get them here!

Luna Rose and Honey Mask-

After a day at the beach or the pool, sometimes you need a little skincare love.  I love this mask!  It makes my skin glow in minutes- no joke!  It apply it all over in the morning and then grab my toothbrush and then rinse off once I’m done brushing my teeth.  It feels so hydrating and soothing to the skin.  It gives a slight exfoliation too with herbal grains.  The raw honey in this mask draws moisture to the skin while soaking up all the excess oils at the same time.  What I love is that this mask can be used daily as a cleanser or as a mask a couple times a week.  It really lives up to it’s name: Glowing Mask.  I promise you won’t be disappointed!  I can’t get enough of this decadent skin treat!  Oh and did I mention it’s only $30?  Get your mask here! Use coupon code: GURLGONEGREEN for 20% off!

Beautycounter Facial Wipes-

Ok, so when you’re on vacation you want to bring as little as possible right?  And have things be a little easier.  Well then you need these makeup removing wipes!  These are in a league of their own.  I kept hearing people say to try the wipes and so of course I did!  These wipes have the perfect moisture amount.  I had yet to find a green beauty wipe that worked so well.  They were either to dry or not soft enough.  Beautycounter hit all the marks on these wipes.  They are soft, moist and even biodegradable.  If you’re a wipe gal you need these!  Perfect for travel too.  You could even cut them in half to make them last longer.  Get them here!

Eco Tan Water

Love getting my glow on with Eco Tan’s self tanning products.

Eco Tan-

I mean my body hasn’t seen the sun in several months, so a fake tan is definitely needed!  ThankfullI love that this product isn’t a lotion or cream but just like a toner for the skin.  Sometimes creams can be greasy and just too much for the face.  The Face Tan water gives you no greasiness and feels so light on the skin.  I applied this twice a week for an all over tan glow.  I would make sure to cleanse and exfoliate my skin beforehand and then apply the self tanner to dry skin.  I used a cotton round to apply it and just made sure to rinse them well afterwards to ensure I didn’t have any leftover residue.  I applied to my face and decolletage.  I also love their tan body lotion!  Get the Face Tan Water here!

Beautycounter Dew Skin-

This is perfect for warmer weather!  It has an SPF 20 and blends so well into the skin, you would hardly notice you’re wearing much. If you want really minimal coverage and more of a tinted moisturizer feel and look, then Dew Skin is for you.  It blends so well into the skin, you would hardly notice you’re wearing much.  Yet it creates such an even canvas for your skin.  It’s super hydrating too!  I wear the color No. 2.  I love easy when I’m on vacation, and Dew Skin is just that!  Get it here!

I Create Waves Review

Can’t get enough of Innersense Beauty’s I Create Waves texture salt spray!

Innersense Leave In Conditioner and Salt Spray-

Hair is important and I can’t not share my favorites for sunnier weather! First, I love Innersense Leave In Conditioner.  It literally is necessary for beach and pool days.  I spray it in my hair and my girls hair to protect it from the pool water.  If your hair is already wet, then it’s not going to soak up the chlorine.  No one wants green hair- especially if you’re blonde!  I also love it, post beach days for when hair needs to be detangled.  Say goodbye to knots and tangles- this is your new best friend mama!

I also love Innersense Salt Spray, it’s their newest product and I can’t get enough.  A lot of texture or salt sprays can weigh the hair down a bit.  Not this one.  It gives my hair some decent hold, almost like a subtle hair spray, and then it adds texture.  Not heavy texture that gets super crunchy.  This is effortless texture that makes it feel like your hair just did it on it’s own.  I love spraying it in my hair to break up my curls after I curl my hair.  It gives my hair a tousled look.  I’m excited to travel because I don’t even think I would bring a hair spray- just this!  It offers enough hold.  This would work great for those with curly hair too as it would help to liven up your natural curls.  SO excited to have this in the summer months!  Get your I Create Waves Texture Spray here!

Natural Winter Skincare

Natural Winter Skincare

Anyone else wondering what natural winter skincare faves to have on hand this season?  Winter is full on here, I mean we finally have snow, ice and some seriously cold temps. When it’s this cold, I’m either happiest when I’m sitting next to a fire, drinking something warm or bundled up- who’s with me?!  This mama likes warm temps! I’ve had so many winter skincare questions lately that I thought I would do a dedicated post on the subject.  After all, as the seasons change, so should your skincare.  When it’s cold and dry your skin needs different things then when it’s hot and humid. So if your skin’s been freaking out the past few weeks- keep reading!  It’s time to address some of the common skin issues when winter strikes!

Hydrate

It’s no secret that the air becomes drier when winter comes.  The air no longer holds as much moisture like it does in the warm months.  When the air is drier, skin also can get drier.  Unfortunately, this can lead to skin cracking, redness and overall heightened sense of sensitivity.  When your skin loses it’s moisture barrier, it can easily get infamed. Not a recipe for skin success!

How to combat moisture loss?

I’m going to get to creams and oils, but it’s also important to really think about what you’re using to cleanse your skin.  Are you cleansing your skin with a harsh cleanser that is going to strip your skin and leave it feeling drier? Swap out your spring or summer cleanser for a oil based or cream cleanser.  This will nourish your skin from the very beginning of your routine, keeping your skin balanced from the start.

natural skincare winter

Sharing the best natural cleansers for the winter season.

Here are some of my favorite natural winter skincare cleansers-

  • Beautycounter Cleansing Balm- If you’re not familiar with a cleansing balm allow me to explain.  A cleansing balm feels just like the name suggests- a balm.  It’s thick and you only need a small amount applied to dry skin to get all the makeup, and grime off from the day.  Once you’re done rubbing in circular motions with it, then you take a warm washcloth and use it to remove it all.  The beauty of a cleansing balm is your skin doesn’t feel dried out at all afterwards.  It feels balanced, and so hydrated!  Grab it here!
  • OSEA Ocean Cleanser- This is one of my favorite cleansers in clean beauty.  It isn’t drying but not overly hydrating either.  A good balance for sure.  If you tend to have oily skin, or live in a pretty mild climate during the winter this would be a great cleanser.  I first get my skin damp, then apply this cleanser all over my skin. Grab it here!
  • Mahalo Unveil Cleanser- This is another cleanser that is similar to a cleansing balm.  However, I do get my skin damp first before applying this.  It emulsifies a little(gets sudsy) when you apply to skin with water.  It feels so good on the skin!! It removes all the makeup, and grime easily too.  Grab it here!
  • Christina Moss Organic Facial Wash- This facial wash is both affordable and effective!  It is great for the most sensitive skin types.  It doesn’t leave your skin dry and yet removes your makeup and grime.  I apply to wet skin and rub in circular motions and then rinse off. Grab it here!
  • Beautycounter Nourishing Cleanser- I’ve only been using this cleanser for two weeks, so I hesitated to put it in here but it really is so good I couldn’t not share!  It’s perfect for dry, winter months.  I apply it to damp skin and rub it all over my skin- removes my eye makeup and everything. It’s a really creamy consistency.  Ideal for those skin types that are really dry and sensitive.  It’s also pretty budget friendly too. Grab it here!

So now that you know what cleansers to use to not dry out your skin even more, let’s talk about exfoliants.

Exfoliants

During the winter months since skin is more sensitive and vulnerable, it’s best to steer clear of the manual exfoliants.  Some people might do fine with them depending on their skin type but overall physical exfoliants can be too harsh.

It’s best to stick with chemical or enzyme exfoliants.  Enzyme exfoliants are similar to chemical exfoliation but much gentler.  It breaks down the glue that holds together dead skin.  They use active ingredients like papain, papaya and pineapple to slough off the dead skin. Enzyme exfoliation is great for someone with sensitive skin.  There’s no actual manual exfoliant involved.  Another type is chemical exfoliation.  Chemical exfoliation is stronger than enzyme exfoliation.  It uses Alpha Hydroxy Acids(AHA’s) or Beta Hydroxy Acids(BHA’s).  AHA’s are not as strong as BHA’s.  A lot of peels are considered chemical exfoliants.  Chemical exfoliants are great for those with oily skin and acne.

Best natural beauty exfoliants for the winter season.

Here are some of my favorite natural winter skincare exfoliants-

  • Leahlani Honey Love- This is a gentle exfoliant using enzymes to help slough off dead skin cells.  It is healing, brightening and exfoliating all at the same time.  Especially great for those with combination or acne prone skin.  I apply this to damp clean skin and rub in circular motions.  Then I let it sit on my skin for 3-5 minutes. Grab it here!
  • Laurel Honey Berry Enzyme Mask- This is also an enzyme exfoliator that gently lifts away dead skin.  It smells so good!  A mixture of honey, berries and grapefruit.  I apply this to damp skin, rub in circular motions and then let it sit on skin for 5-30 minutes.  Grab it here!
  • Pai Kukui & Jojoba Bead Skin Brightening Exfoliator- I discovered this exfoliator last year and since have been using it.  It really helps to brighten skin gently using jojoba beads. The jojoba beads aren’t harsh but gentle.  They glide over the skin easily, not disrupting skin’s natural moisture balance.  I apply this to clean damp skin and rub in circular motions.  Especially great for sensitive skin types. Grab it here!
  • Ursa Major Bright and Easy 3-Minute Flash Mask- This mask gets you glowing in 3 minutes flat- just like the name suggests.  It’s perfect for the most sensitive skin types.  Worried your skin might react to a harsh exfoliant?  This may be the one for you.  Using enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells, this mask does it all in 3 minutes!  It looks like a gel and feels light and refreshing on the skin.  If you’re perpetually running late, this may be the mask for you!  I put it on before I brush my teeth and rinse off once I’m done.  The perfect amount of time to get a quick glow for the rest of the day. Grab it here!

Ok, now that we’ve got cleansers and exfoliants down, let’s talk about oils and creams.

Facial Oils

Oils are definitely the rage, but for good reason!  An oil consists of essential fatty acids that help to bring moisture to the skin. They also help to repair the outer layer of the skin so you don’t lose more moisture.  Our bodies don’t produce EFA’s on their own so we need to supplement them internally and externally.  I like taking a fish oil daily for some good omega 3’s.  Oils also can contain a mix of essential oils that help to balance the skin and provide therapeutic properties.  Oil’s work perfectly with our skin’s cutaneous and get to the center of the epidermis.  Many people with oily skin think they should avoid oils- when really the opposite is true.  Using oils helps bring balance to the skin and don’t clog pores(if you choose the right ones) like other moisturizers that contain emulsifiers, waxes, etc.

natural beauty winter

Best Clean Beauty Oils for the winter season.

Here are some of my favorite natural winter skincare oils-

  • Supercritical Pure Chia Oil- (dry skin, sensitive) This oil is made for even the driest skin types.  Literally hydrating the most parched skin.  It also has ingredients that plump up the skin and minimize fine lines.  This is an all around super hydrator.  I use it in the morning before my makeup or after a serum at night when I need some extra moisture.  Your skin will feel like silk!  Read more on the Supercritical Pure Chia Oil here and get one for yourself here!
  • Osmia Organic’s Nectar Vital Rose Drops- The name is so appropriate for it, it truly feels like nectar on your skin, a rich luxe oil.  Some oils feel thinner but this one feels fatty-haha are you still with me?!  Let’s just say I love the feel of it.  And the smell, amazing!  Subtle rose, sandalwood and jasmine envelope you.  I applied this at night and in the morning.  At night I applied it after the toner and my skin just drank it up.  In the morning my skin felt silky smooth and hydrated.  It was as if it had a big drink of water at night and was infused with oxygen.  Seriously, it’s SO good!  You only need a few drops too.  Having dry skin once the weather starts to turn I like adding a heavier moisturizer/oil in the morning.  This was just the ticket.  I allowed my skin to soak it up for 5 minutes before applying my makeup.  You guys will love this, trust me!  With only 8 ingredients, this 99.6% organic nectar is seriously so lovely. Grab it here!
  • Holi(oil) Youth Serum- This frosted bottle contains a rich oil that smells like roses.  Not only does it help smooth skin and wrinkles but it also is extremely hydrating.  It doesn’t feel greasy at all and seeps into your skin, giving your face a radiance.  My skin looked restored.  I used this after several sleepless nights and it literally brought the life back into my skin.  It’s true to it’s name- giving you your youthful skin back!  There isn’t a long list of ingredients but the ones that are in there are effective.  I also love using this before makeup.  My foundation glides on.  Bonus- my husband can use it too!  This has barely any ingredients and scores a 2 when it comes to comedogenic rating. Which means it’s most likely not to cause clogged pores in people, however it could still in some.
    Grab your bottle here!
  • Indie Lee Squalane Oil- Helps with texture and appearance of skin tone.  It nourishes the skin without feeling greasy.  Has a comedogenic rating of 0-1. I love how simplistic this oil is.  It literally only contains squalene oil- that’s it!  Great for sensitive skin and for improving the overall quality of the skin’s appearance.  Grab it here!

  • Pai Rosehip Seed Oil- This oil has a rating of 1 on the comedogenic scale. Rosehip seed oil is great for so many things, from hydrating skin to calming inflammation.  I love that this oil only has 3 ingredients.  It’s really known for it’s healing properties and it’s rich Omega 3, 6, 7 & 9 plus antioxidant Carotenoids content.   This is also budget friendly oil! Grab it here!

  • Marie Veronique Soothing B3 Serum- This serum is good all seasons but especially in the dead of winter when skin can get irritated and extra sensitive from the elements.  It helps to calm the skin with essential B Vitamins.  It helps to calm sensitivity and redness and reduce acne.  It doesn’t have any essential oils in it either!  Regular use of Niacinamide has shown to help ease inflammation and overall acne.  This isn’t hydrating on it’s own, it’s a gel consistency.  I would apply this before an oil.  Make sure if you do struggle with acne, that you’re not getting a comedogenic oil.  The Indie Lee Squalene Oil and the Pai Rosehip Seed Oil would be good oils to start with above. Grab it here!

Now that you know what oil to choose, let’s dive into creams.

Creams

Many people aren’t sure what the difference is between an oil, a cream and a lotion.  Allow me to explain.  An oil is just that- just an oil- nothing added.  A cream has a mix of water and oil, but more oil than water and then a lotion is also a mixture of water and oil but the higher percentage is water- which makes it thinner.  Creams are great at protecting the skin, especially after applying an oil and if you need additional moisture.  I like doing them at night.  A lotion is good for in the morning when you want some hydration but don’t want to be too greasy from an oil.

We are going to focus on creams and their benefits.  They really are the superstar in the winter for dry skin.  They really help to protect skin and hold in the moisture.

natural winter beauty

Best clean beauty products for the winter season.

Here are some of my favorite natural winter skincare creams-

  • Joshrosebrook Vital Balm Cream- The Vital Balm Cream is hands down one of my favorite moisturizers. It feels creamy to the touch-not greasy and when I apply it my skin’s dryness dissipates and I’m left with plump hydrated skin.  Ok, the smell…well it’s amazing! One of the best smelling products I’ve ever used.  It has a fresh, light smell with vanilla enveloping all of it and blue tansy and ylang ylang notes throughout-I’m obsessed with the smell.  It has the properties of a balm but feels like a cream-I mean it’s kind a dream cream!  Can we talk about the color too?!  The baby mint/blue hue just looks cool. The ingredient I was excited to learn about in the product is Indian Senna Seed.  It really performs just like it supposed to in this cream.  It’s been called the botanical hyaluronic acid, it gives skin the ability to retain moisture on it’s own.  So your skin feels hydrated well after application.  Grab it here!
  • Jane Scrivener OO Cream- This cream has a bright golden orange hue from rosehip.  I was so excited to see how this would stack up to other moisturizers.  Well, I was impressed- very impressed.  I’ve now been using this every night since I got it in the mail and can’t stop!  It’s SO hydrating.  Some creams leave your skin hydrated for a minute but this one lasts.  It really sinks into the skin so nicely.  I wake up in the morning and my skin still feels supple and moisturized, but not oily- I repeat not oily.  Can I talk to you about the scent?  I love the scent.  It smells like vanilla- soothing and warm vanilla. It’s really an amazing product!  If you’ve been looking for a cream to truly hydrate your skin in this winter season or any time- this is it.  I can’t stop and won’t stop using it! Grab it here!
  • Beautycounter Creams- I’ve been using the Countermarch Recovery Sleeping Cream at night over my facial oil and I’ve been loving it!  It provides just a little extra moisture.  I’ve also been using it before my makeup and it’s not too greasy.  It might be in the summer but right now my skin needs some extra moisture.  If you feel extra dry or have mature skin I would get the Rejuvenating Cream.  My mom has this cream and loves it!  Her skin is mature and very dry.  She loves a good hydrating cream.  The Rejuvenating Cream is also a bestseller!

Balms

So first what are skincare balms and why might you need one?? Good question. Balms are made generally from oils, butters, and waxes. In my opinion a true balm is waterless. The product is more concentrated when there’s not water and so pure. Balms are multitaskers. They seriously can do it all. From cleanse, hydrate, protect and even offer some serious nutrients. Since balms typically involve a lot of oils, they are using soluble ingredients. Which in the end let’s you put more ingredients into one product. Hello effectiveness! Plus, since they’re waterless usually formulas can include ingredients that are more potent. Balms are especially great in the winter when your skin needs extra protection.  They can help to protect skin from the harsh winds, cold and lock in the moisture.  I apply balms after oils or creams.

natural beauty winter

Best clean beauty balms for the winter season.

Here are some of my natural winter skincare balms-

  • Maya Chia Waterless Wonderbalm- The balm itself is definitely a wonder.  I couldn’t get enough.  From my face, dry hands, feet, even my elbows, this balm seals in all the moisture.  No greasy residue is left behind.  My skin feels so hydrated, but the kind of hydration where you aren’t grabbing for the next moisturizing product.  This is all you need.  If you haven’t found anything that will give you that moisture you crave, then do yourself a favor and grab this balm-your skin will thank you! Grab it here!
  • Leahlani Bless Beauty Balm- Dry skin stands no chance with this baby!  This is a balm and not a cream but performs like a cream in many ways. It’s full of organic shea and cocoa butters, as well as cold pressed oils.  It melts right into your skin and leaves behind a beautiful smell of rosehip oil and no oily residue.  My skin felt so hydrated!  The perfect companion for dry weather in winter, and in the summer when you’ve spent too much time in the sun.  You only need a little dab for the whole face. Grab it here!
  • Kari Gran Essential Balm- The Essential Balm really keeps with Kari Gran’s mission and ethos to only use what you need and to keep things simple.  I love that about their brand.  This balm can be used for so many things.  From a facial moisturizer, to an eye balm, a cleansing balm and even a primer.  Really it’s what you make of it and what works for you.  It has incredible texture and feel.  A little more slip than a traditional balm and almost melts into your hand when applying it. Grab it here!
  • CVS Restorative Skin Balm- This is such a great protective skin balm.  If your skin is cracked, dry and needing protection from the elements, this is your balm.  It is similar to a conventional petroleum jelly product.  It will soften skin, while hydrating at the same time. I even have used this on cuticles, elbows, or anywhere you experience cracked, dry skin. Grab it here!

Also, besides skincare products there are a few other things you can start to incorporate to ensure your skin stays calm and hydrated.

  • Avoid long hot showers that can dry out your skin.
  • Use lukewarm water when your cleansing your skin.
  • Apply moisturizer when skin is still slightly damp to lock in moisture.
  • Stay hydrated- make sure you’re drinking your water.
  • Eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, nuts, seeds or take an omega-3 supplement.
  • Avoid clothing that can irritate your skin like wool.

See any products you need to get?  What helps keep your skin hydrated and balanced during the winter months?

The Best Of Clean Beauty 2018

The Best Of Clean Beauty 2018

We are at it again with the best of clean beauty 2018!  My girl Lisa from the blog This Organic Girl and I are dishing up our faves this year in clean and natural beauty.  This is our third year in a row and the post always seems to be a crowd favorite.

Clean Living Natural

Join the 5 Day Clean Living Challenge and start living your best natural life!

I’m going to give you a quick run down on some past favorites too that we can’t stope reaching for, plus some personal picks that I’ve tried and Lisa hasn’t.  But before I do, I wanted to share a little about two places that keep me well stocked when it comes to clean and natural beauty products.

The first is The Detox Market–

best of clean beauty

Just some of the clean beauty you can find at detox market!

This was the very first green beauty store I shopped at.  I still remember angels singing when I visited the actual store in L.A.  Ok, maybe angels weren’t singing but it felt like I had arrived in green beauty heaven!  They have ALL the brands and more.  You want some Josh Rosebrook- they’ve got you covered.  Need some Osmia Organics in your life, sister they have it.  Want some Odacite?  No problem- they have the whole line.  It’s your one stop shop for all things natural beauty!  They have a list of ingredient standards, which lists ingredients they don’t allow in their formulations, so you can be sure your products are squeaky clean.

I remember hearing about their pop up shop in 2010- I was salivating to go!  It was at the same time I had started to detox my beauty products.  It’s so crazy to think where The Detox Market is today!  There’s so many natural options, compared to 8 years ago.  I love their mission on educating the consumer and bringing awareness.  Forever a Detox Market fan!  You can basically get any clean beauty product from their store.

Also, I love Boxwalla!

best of clean beauty

Love this clean beauty box by Boxwalla. It hits all the marks when it comes to a clean beauty box.

This is a clean beauty box that you can get bi-monthly. In case you’re not familiar with Boxwalla allow me to introduce you.  This box delivers some of the best of green beauty.  I find that’s what sets them apart from other green beauty boxes is their thoughtful curations.  I always find they go out on a limb and really find brands and artisans that I haven’t heard of- which I love!  If you’re into trying new brands and discovering people that truly love their craft- this box is for you.  I also love that this box is bi-monthly versus every month.  It helps me to savor each box and really get to know the products.  Their selections are always cruelty free as well.  The products are also free of certain ingredients according to Boxwalla standards.  You can find the specific ingredients they avoid here. Another reason I love getting behind this box!  Plus, don’t get me started on their actual boxes the products come in- seriously next level.  I keep each box and give them to others with gifts in them because they’re so gorgeous!  Read below on how their boxes are made. A quote from Boxwalla’s website:

Each box containing Boxwalla goodies is carefully crafted from tree-free handmade paper. A small company in India makes the paper for us, from cotton scraps, using the traditional art of paper-making that involves 9 steps and takes several weeks. The handmade paper is then meticulously fashioned into the boxes that you see in the pictures. The whole process is completely child labor free and employs 63 local villagers and 20 skilled artisans whose families have been making paper for generations. We love supporting socially and environmentally conscious businesses such as these: They craft beautiful products while preserving traditional crafts and skills that would otherwise be completely lost.

If you want to start the new year off right and start discovering the best of green beauty, sign up for a Boxwalla box here!

Here are past favorites of Lisa and I that we can’t get away from:

Ok, on to the BEST OF CLEAN BEAUTY 2018!

  • Moss Skincare Beurre Céleste Honey Antioxidant Infusion Recovery Mask in Cleansing Baume- It was love at first swipe when I used this cleansing mask/balm.  It comes in a balm form and quickly melts in your hands and removes makeup and grime so effortlessly. Your skin feels so clean, and not stripped in any way.  I often use it in the mornings and leave it on my skin while I brush my teeth.  Such a unique formula too because it’s completely waterless- so no preservative!
  • African Botanics Fleurs de’Afrique- An amazing plant based retinol oil that my skin LOVES!  I literally have seen a brightness in my skin and hyper pigmentation fade- no joke.  If you got it, then you know what I’m talking about.  I discovered this in a Boxwalla box- they are always dishing out the good stuff.
  • Kosas Lipstick- These lipsticks are the best.  To own a Kosas lipstick is to love it!  These are pigmented, long lasting and moisturizing.  I almost have all 8 colors in the collection and there isn’t a bad color.
  • Odacite Lip Serum- I had never used a lip serum like this on my lips until Odacite’s.  It helps to hydrate, minimize fine lines on the lips and plump.  I love applying as my last step in my skincare routine.  My lip’s nightly nightcap!
  • Laurel Sun Damage Repair Serum- This is a serum and oil in one that helps to repair sun damaged skin.  The formula contains 27 whole organic plants!  It helps to reverse the signs of aging that the sun brings.  It also helps to brighten and fade age spots.  The oil feels richer on the skin but it also seeps right in.  When I used it I noticed a decrease in overall redness, faded sun spots and clearer skin tone.
  • Khus Khus Modern Herbal Fusion + RASA Restorative Potion- This is such a unique body cream. Not only does it contain adaptogenic herbs but Ayurvedic and Western nervine herbs as well.  It helps to bring a calm to the nervous system.  It feels so soothing and healing!  Plus, my skin feels so hydrated as well.
  • True Botanicals Cellular Repair Serum, Antioxidant Booster and Vitamin C Booster- The Cellular Repair Serum is designed to reverse the cellular damage caused by sun exposure and aging.  Pretty sure everyone wants to sign up for that-am I right?!  Besides reversing cellular damage it also replenishes moisture and plumps up skin.  It’s highly concentrated and goes past the surface of the skin to really get to the cellular level.  This Vitamin C Booster treatment is preserved in it’s freshest form.  Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps to even skin tone, brighten and fade wrinkles, stimulate collagen, plus firm and repair skin.  I mean every face needs this stuff.  You might be wondering why it comes in a powder form.  When vitamin c is mixed with a liquid it slowly loses potency.  By keeping it in powder form you can be assured it’s in it’s freshest form.  The Antioxidant Booster is similar to the Vitamin C Booster but it uses apple peel powder instead, which has actually been shown to be more powerful then Vitamin C!  It helps brighten dark spots, even out skin tone and firm skin.
  • Sappho Brow Pomade- When my beloved brow cream that I had been using for a couple year from Hynt was reformulated I was back to the drawing board to find one that worked just as good!  Thankfully Sappho answered my prayers.  This works so well. Leaves my brows looking natural and so easy to apply.  I wear the color dark brown black.
  • Honest Beauty Mascara- If you’ve followed me for a hot minute you know I’m OBSESSED with this mascara!  It’s the best I’ve found in green beauty. It gives my lashed definition, length and drama.  Plus, you can get it on Amazon and it’s under $15!  I know- we hit the jackpot with this one.
  • Osmia Body Oil- I can’t get enough of Osmia’s Body Oil.  It’s like the biggest drink of water for your body.  Your skin will thank you and so will your mind as you wrap yourself in this goodness.  I apply mine right out of the shower or bath and my skin stays silky smooth all day.  I love the Night Oil scent- with notes of lavender, roman chamomile and atlas cedarwood. But if you don’t like scent you would love their naked oil- it has no essential oils in it.
  • Maya Chia The Optimist Hydrating Essence- I get SO excited for any new Maya Chia product and The Optimist was no exception.  This gem is housed in a dark glass bottle, preserving every last drop of goodness.  Smells divine with hints of neroli, sweet orange, and ylang ylang.  The formula itself feels so hydrating on the skin and refreshing with white tea, antioxidants, fatty acids and phytonutrients- just to name a few.  I can’t forget the actual spray function.  It works so well!  I know it might sound funny, but after truing hundreds of mists in my day, the spray function is actually quite important.  You don’t want the mist to feel like it’s attacking your skin or spraying you in the eye!  The Optimist sprays so well all over the face.  The founder Susanne nailed it!

best of clean beauty

Honest Beauty Mascara is my favorite green beauty mascara.

Here are some favorites of mine that I discovered this year and I can’t not share:

  • Beautycounter’s Face Wipes- These wipes are the best I’ve found in green beauty.  They offer the perfect amount of moisture, and they remove all my makeup!  Plus, they’re biodegradeable.
  • Beauty counter’s Eye shadows- I love these shadows.  They get the best eye shadow award in clean beauty hands down!  They are so pigmented, go on smooth and stay on forever- the whole day.  Trust me- you will be hooked once you use them.  They are having a sale right now for 30% off their holiday eye palettes too!
  • Beautycounter’s Eye Makeup Remover- Ok, I seriously was so excited when I tried this eye makeup remover.  All you Mary Kay fans will get me.  Back in the day I used to be big Mary Kay Eye Makeup Remover devotee.  It was the best I found and since I stopped using it I’ve never even able to find a replacement. Until now!  This eye makeup remover works like a charm- can’t say it enough. If you like having an eye makeup remover- you’ll love this!
  • Ilia Eye Primer- I have finally found my favorite eye primer in clean beauty!  This magic little wand does not mess around.  It keeps my eye shadows in place the whole day, no creasing, or smudging.  I can’t recommend it enough.
  • Tata Harper’s Clarifying Mask- I had tried this once before this year but nothing more. It had been a small sample. Then I got a full jar and lets just say, it quickly dwindled!  This helps purify pores, detoxify the skin and leave you with an overall glow.  Can’t get enough!

How To Naturally Heal Acne with Marissa Gossett

How To Naturally Heal Acne with Marissa Gossett

In episode #22 we are learning how to naturally heal acne with Marissa Gossett.  Marissa is an acne-overcomer, skin therapist, indie wellness researcher, and champion-of-women dedicated to helping you achieve the skin of your dreams!  She’s born-and-raised a Southern California girl with nothing more than a few unpopular ideas and an Instagram account, she proudly created a new way to see skin imbalances so that women can stop dreading their faces and start living wholeheartedly. Beginning skin coaching with only a few desperate/courageous women (who found her on Instgram though hashtags!), she now receive multiple breakthroughskin pictures weekly! She wants women, like you, to see their skin in a whole new light and find their holy grail regimen and lifestyle habits that reveal their skin’s most glowing potential.

One of the things she’s often asked is “What are you going to tell me my dermatologist, esthetician, and the internet hasn’t told me?”  For as long as she can remember, she’s always been curious about the mysteries of human wellness, especially in regards to skin, because that has been where she’s struggled. Why do some women live unhealthy lives and manage to have zero breakouts? Why do others live very healthily and struggle with lifelong acne? The answer: modern skin treatment removes and destroys, yet true skin treatment feeds and nourishes.  She believes that no matter where you are on your skin journey, it’s ultimately up to you to change your skin.  Clear skin gives you the freedom to be the truest version of yourself.

OSEA Review

OSEA Review

*This post is sponsored by OSEA. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

So excited to share with you all my OSEA skincare review!  I hadn’t tried their products until Beauty Heroes had them in a recent box.  In the box was their Ocean Cleanser- let’s just say it was love the first time I used it!  I couldn’t get enough of the milky cleanser.  I knew I needed to try more of their products!

If you’re not familiar with OSEA allow me to fill you in on this natural skincare line.  This brand is truly unique.  I was so intrigued by the founder Jenefer’s story of how she started it.  She was inspired by her grandmother who credits the ocean to healing her.  She had been on bedrest after a severe leg injury.  Her grandmother recalls having a dream about the sea and the next day went for a swim.  A few weeks later her grandmother was healed!  Jenefer went to her roots when creating OSEA.  From what she learned from her grandmother of the healing properties of the ocean and her knowledge, she chose seaweed as the base of her skincare line.  Seaweed contains powerful minerals and ingredients to help restore and nourish the skin.

I love OSEA’s commitment to clean skincare as stated so well on their website:

OSEA delivers proven results without causing harm to our health or the health of our environment. Jenefer’s innovative formulations of certified organic, bioavailable seaweed, infused with pure steam-distilled and cold pressed essential oils create powerful natural anti-aging solutions and reduce the appearance of blemishes–eliminating the need for synthetic ingredients entirely. OSEA is free of synthetic chemicals such as parabens, petrochemicals, and sulfates.

OSEA was also the first company to sign the “Compact for Safe Cosmetics”:

In 2002, OSEA was the first company to sign “Compact for Safe Cosmetics”, an initiative started by the Environmental Working Group that holds companies accountable for ensuring that their products are “free of chemicals that are known or strongly suspected of causing cancer, mutation or birth defects.” Since then, over 1,000 companies have joined OSEA in pledging to phase out the use of toxic chemicals in all beauty products!

I was excited to dive into the products they sent me and report back to you guys my thoughts!

Ocean Cleansing Mud-

This cleanser is especially formulated for oily, and acne prone skin.  It gently exfoliates while getting rid of impurities on the skin.  The first thing I noticed upon using it was the scent!  It has essential oils of tea tree, peppermint and rosemary.  It gives your skin a tingly, refreshing vibe- overall feeling very energized.  It contains organic algae and cypress oil that help to balance blemishes and remove impurities.  I would apply this cleanser on my skin at night and in the morning, but I found I liked it best in the morning as a gentle exfoliant and morning wake up call for my skin.  My skin is on the dry side so this cleanser works better for me once a day.  However, my sister who has oily skin loves it!  It helps to remove excess oil and give her an overall brighter appearance.  I applied to damp skin and used circular motions to remove makeup and dirt- avoid eye area.  Grab your Ocean Cleansing Mud here!

Sea Vitamin Boost-

This toning mist is not only beautiful in color but performs well too!  It instantly gives my skin some major hydration and feels so refreshing.  I love squirting it on my skin in the morning to wake me up and in the afternoon even for a quick pick me up.  With ingredients like resveratrol, organic algae and pomegranate, it’s no wonder this mist makes me swoon every time I use it.   If your skin feels dull and lifeless this is for you! Get your Sea Vitamin Boost here!

Hyaluronic Sea Serum-

It’s no wonder this serum was awarded Best Beauty Award in Style for 2017!  It works and works well!  If you have dry skin or wrinkles this is for you.  It instantly adds moisture to thirsty skin and smooths fine lines.  Hyaluronic acid is known for it’s ability to attract moisture to the skin.  Just to give you a little visual, hyaluronic acid attracts 1,000 times it’s weight in water- making it a powerful player in improving elasticity.  Your skin will feel supple and smooth.  Not only does this serum have hyaluronic acid but also three different kinds of organic seaweed that help deliver antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.  In other words it’s a powerhouse serum for the skin!  I love applying this after the Sea Vitamin Boost and then pressing this into my skin before my oils.  It makes my makeup look better and gives me an overall polished look- can’t recommend it enough!  Get your Hyaluronic Sea Serum here!

Vitamin C Probiotic Face Polish-

I was so intrigued by this product!  I’ve been reading so much about putting probiotics on the skin topically and not just internally.  So many benefits!  Plus, I know how powerful vitamin c is.  This polish comes in a powder form with pure vitamin c and vegan probiotics.  It also has finely ground rice and bamboo and seaweed powders.  These help gently slough off the dead skin cells.  The vitamin c and probiotics give your skin an overall brightness and helps to fade hyper pigmentation.  I noticed improved resilience of my skin and just a fresh faced looked.  Get your Vitamin C Probiotic Face Polish here!

White Algae Mask-

This mask feels so good on the skin.  This is an anti-aging mask.  It really is meant to improve overall skin tone and brighten the complexion.  The ingredients are white marine algae, white tea, and resveratrol. These ingredients help to minimize redness- which I’m always all about and give an overall glow to the skin.  The mask also has mineral peptides and hyaluronic acid.  These two help to mask those fine lines and moisturize the skin.  I would apply this at night and leave it on for 20-60 minutes.  You can even leave it on overnight!  My skin felt so supple, smooth and less red after using.  It’s such a nourishing mask and one I can’t stop using! Get your White Algae Mask here!

Salt of The Earth Body Scrub-

Talk about a scrub!  This body scrub doesn’t mess around.  It is filled with Dead Sea and Himalayan Pink Salts, Bolivian Rose and Organic seaweed of course.  Plus, it boasts some Acai, shea butter and passionfruit that leave your skin feeling like butter.  I applied to wet skin and used circular motions.  My skin felt so refreshed and clean!  Sometimes we focus on facial exfoliation but our body needs great exfoliation as well!  Grab your Salt of The Earth Body Scrub here!

*Here are the other two products I had previously tried and loved!

Ocean Cleanser-

This cleanser is a definite fave!  I love that it comes in a frosted glass bottle- so chic.  It’s such an overall soothing cleanser, yet highly effective. It removes all my my makeup and grime from the day- yes even my stubborn eye makeup.  I get my skin damp first and then apply several pumps to my hands.  Then I rub in circular motions all over my face.  After rinsing with water my skin feels so hydrated, and clean.  Not stripped or dry.  It does such a great job of imparting hydration to the skin, and nourishing it with vitamins and minerals.  Did I mention it smells like candy?!  The lime really stands out to me.  There also are notes of juniper, and cypress.  A great all around cleanser- can’t get enough!  Get your Ocean Cleanser here!

Undaria Body Polish-

This body polish is unlike any I’ve used.  It is creamy in consistency but yet strong enough to remove and exfoliate unwanted dry skin. After using it my skin looks slightly pink and plump.  It takes dull skin and gives it a good polish, revealing the brightest and prettiest skin.  Upon opening it, you’re greeted with scents of lavender and Sweet Melissa.  It awakens your senses and revitalizes your whole body.  It exfoliates the skin with powdery grains of pumice, acai, and guarana.  I get my body wet first, and then apply the body polish and use circular motions to rub it in.  A serious skin treat!  Grab your Undaria Body Polish here!

That concludes my OSEA skincare review.  There’s so many more skincare treats I can’t wait to try!  Checkout their full shop here!  Did you see anything you want?  Have you tried any OSEA products?  Let me know if you have any questions!
