Hubalou Clean Hair Wrap Review

Hubalou Clean Hair Wrap Review

I was sent a hair wrap recently.  But not just any hair wrap, a Hubalou Clean Hair Wrap  made of bamboo fiber.  Can you say luxury?!  If you haven’t ever felt bamboo you need too, it’s so soft.  Hubalou started with the intent of making a hair wrap that not only dried your hair, but provided a bit of luxury at the same time.  There common phrase is, “Goodbye terrycloth, hello healthy hair.”  As a stylist, I’ve known terrycloth to pull hair and cause breakage…not a good recipe for healthy hair!

The wrap itself is so soft.  I really just love the whole idea of a wrap to begin with.  It keeps my hair out of my face while putting on my makeup and dries my hair faster…a win/win!  How does the bamboo make this wrap different?  I’m glad you asked!  Instead of pulling on your hair and leaving it feeling blah, it gives it fullness and a smoothness.  It dried it but not like the dry you get from air drying.  My hair had a great wave to it and not kinky but soft.  If you have curly hair, this would be perfect for you.  My hair isn’t even curly naturally and I love it.  You can even sleep with it on!  Allowing your hair to dry into a smooth style.  It cut my drying time in half, and somedays I didn’t even use a blowdryer because I felt I didn’t need one-my hair dried so nice in the wrap.  I wondered how my hair had more body without using the blowdryer (I have fine/thin hair) and I realized it was because you’re flipping your head over when you put on the wrap-so you have gravity lifting it and then the bamboo fibers keep the strands so smooth and defined.  Instant style!

I can’t not wear it now after washing my hair.  I just hang it on my towel rack and it dries easily for the next day.  They even give you instructions on how to put it on-makes it so easy.  Another awesome reason to love this company?  They give 10% of their profits to organizations that help support basic needs.  How cool is that?!  Trust me, you all need one of these!  Makes getting pretty hair so much easier!

For more info. check out their website here.  And since you all need one, I have a discount code for you!  Use code: SUZI for 20% off!  I was sent the Hubalou wrap in slate, but they have several other colors.  Have you guys used them?  Leave me a comment, I want to hear!

Uncle Harry’s Green Review

Uncle Harry’s Green Review

Uncle Harry’s was so kind to send me some of their natural green products to try out-so many goodies!  I was familiar with the brand a little, since I use their toothpaste-my fave!  I sampled some of their skincare/teeth products this time around.  Uncle Harry’s is a family owned company, specializing in creating earth friendly, natural products at affordable prices.  All of their creations are handmade using the best in organic, sustainable, and local materials.  Another bonus?  They’re made right here in the greater Seattle area-my hood!

Why I really like Uncle Harry’s?   A lot of people either can’t afford luxury organic products or don’t want to pay for them-that’s where Uncle Harry’s comes in.  A company that not only makes quality products, but products for the whole family and that anyone can afford or are willing to buy!

What did I sample?  Some skincare, teeth products and a scalp product.  They have SO many products that I didn’t sample, so if you don’t see something you like here, trust me, there’s probably something on their website.  Anyways, let’s get to the ones I did sample.

Instant Clay Mask Bar-

This is definitely the first time I’ve used Indian clay on my skin.  It has a different smell that’s for sure.  Kind of herbal medicinal.  It’s also a different concept than a traditional mask I’ve used.  It comes in a bar form and you wet your skin and then take one end of the bar and cover your face in it.  Let it dry and then wipe off.  My skin felt so moisturized afterwards, counterintuitive to what you may be used to with traditional clay masks.  My skin felt so smooth.  There is literally two ingredients in the whole bar-Indian Yellow clay and Kewra fragrance.  It can be used as a cleanser, but I found it didn’t remove all my makeup, so I just used it as a mask.  $3

Jojoba Face Tonic-

This toner has jojoba oil, colloidal silver water, grapefruit seed extract and an array of essential oils.  The smell is light and refreshing.  It left my skin feeling hydrated and soft.  A great hydrosol after cleansing and before serum/moisturizer.  $5

Pure Raw Argan Oil-

I loved this oil!  One of my favorite products that I’ve tried from Uncle Harry’s.  It’s moisturizing but not greasy.  It melted into my skin so effortlessly and in the morning my skin was supple.  It just has organic extra virgin cold pressed raw argan oil.  Great for a deep hair conditioner too!  I also used it before I applied my foundation and it just glided on-a great product to get skin prepped for even makeup application.  $12

Hemp Blemish Salve-

I was really interested in this salve.  I’ve never used a salve for a blemish before, but used a ton of serums.  It has lavender and calendula in it-both known for their antiseptic properties.  I loved the smell!  Smells definitely like the perfect blend of lavender and calendula.  So I did put it on a blemish and slept on it overnight.  The blemish was just red and painful to the touch.  What happened?  The next morning the blemish had gone down.  I used it for several days in a row and it went away-no rupture!  It definitely didn’t take it away the next day, but it did help over time.  $6

Herbal Coconut Oil-

This was another favorite!  Filled with hydrating oils like coconut, hemp, almond oil and an array of essential oils.  I loved using it after showering for all over moisturized skin.  I also used it for shaving and my skin was silky smooth afterwards.  I highly recommend! It smells fresh and very herbal.  This is also great for travel-only 2 oz.!  $3

Hair and Scalp Elixir-

This was another great one.  I mean who doesn’t love a good scalp massage, especially when a good scalp oil is involved?!  This concoction is filled with apple cider vinegar, and essential oils to remove build up, help stimulate the scalp and help hair grow.  It feels very invigorating on the scalp-especially with the peppermint, and eucalyptus.  You put the drops on your scalp and then rub it in.  You can leave it on for 30 minutes or overnight.  My husband and I took turns giving scalp massages.  I definitely would recommend this if you find you have an oily scalp, prone to dry scalp/dandruff or just like  a good scalp massage!  $5

Oral Swish-

This was another fave!  It is a cold pressed sesame oil mixed with essential oils for oil pulling.  Oil pulling not only removes toxins from your mouth but your whole body.  It is simply adding a small amount of the oil in your mouth and swishing it around for 5-20 minutes and then spitting out and brushing your teeth.  You will be amazed at how clean your teeth feel.  I really liked using sesame oil.  I typically use coconut oil with no essential oils.  This also didn’t solidify like my coconut oil-another perk of sesame oil.  $10

Peppermint Toothpaste-

I wasn’t sent any of their toothpaste, but this is what I use for my toothpaste and I love it!  My teeth feel so clean and my breath stays fresh.  There is no glycerin or sugar in the toothpaste-something I find in most natural brands.  It uses bentonite clay to draw out bacteria and grime from the mouth, which is very alkalizing.  Also, it comes in a glass jar, and there’s no need to worry about double dipping because the essential oils in it are antiseptic.  You all need this! $6

HomemadeDuJour Review

HomemadeDuJour Review

I was sent 4 different products to review by Jessy the owner of HomemadeDuJour, an Artisanal Organic Skincare Line.  HomemadeDuJour offers body products, scrubs, and facial care.  It has been such a delight getting to know Jessy through social media.  Her passion for living a holistic lifestyle is so evident in her skincare products.  She is not only a mom but a business owner…my hat goes off to her!

The four products I had the pleasure of sampling were the Cocoa Lavender Organic Body Butter, Lemon Lavender Organic Sugar Scrub, Organic Eye Cream and Organic Face Cream.  All of which are filled with pure ingredients.  Jessy even lists all her ingredients on her website and is so transparent-which I love!  Also, all her products come in dark glass jars.  Not only does that help preserve the product but it doesn’t leach plastic into the product!

Ok, enough chit chat, let’s talk products.

Cocoa Lavender Organic Body Butter-

I’m typically an oil gal through and through but this body butter had me coming back for more!  I applied it right after my shower and my skin soaked it right up.  There wasn’t any greasy residue leftover.  I especially loved this for my feet-helped soften my callouses.  My skin felt so soft the next day.  When I applied it, I warmed it up in my hands first.  This helped to soften the butter so it would glide on.  Only 7 ingredients…so great!  I really enjoyed the lavender scent as well, not too strong but just enough.  This retails for $22.

Lemon Lavender Organic Sugar Scrub-

This sugar scrub is infused with real lavender and lemon throughout and smells so good.  It would literally wake me up in the morning.  It was a little too rough for my face but I loved it for my body.  My skin felt so revived and moisturized after using it.  This product was also great for my feet…haha I’m a big proponent of keeping up my feet!      Just like the body butter this has 7 pure ingredients.  Retails for $15.

Organic Eye Cream-

I’m pretty sure this eye cream will last me forever!  A little goes a long way.  It is a thicker eye cream then I’ve ever used before.  I had to warm it up with my fingers to help dab it on.  Always pat your eye cream, the skin is the thinnest around the eye.  Oh and use your ring finger, has the least muscles in it.  It really moisturized the eye area and when I woke up in the morning it wasn’t greasy.  It was too heavy to apply during the day…my makeup looked greasy under the eye area.  If you’re really dry underneath the eye area and are looking for a good eye moisturizer, this would be great.  Retails for $25

Organic Face Cream-

This organic facial cream, like most of HomemadeDujours line is for dry/mature skin types.  It is very moisturizing.  With ingredients like coconut oil, cacao butter and shea butter, you’re skin will be so hydrated.  Again, I’m an oil gal and have to have my serum for at night.  I applied my serum, waited 5 minutes for that to soak in and then I applied the facial cream.  I always recommend using an anti-aging serum first-your skin soaks in all the antioxidants, then apply the facial cream for added moisture.  My face was greasy when I went to bed but in the morning it was supple and moisturized.  If you have really dry, thirsty skin this would be perfect!  Pure ingredients as well in this one.  I did have to rub the cream in my hands to warm it up so it applied easier.  Retails for $45.

You can find all of these products and other HomemadeDujour products on Etsy here.  Jessy also offers custom orders, so if you don’t see what you like, just ask!  Follow HomemadeDujour on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.  Also, use code GURLGONEGREEN for 10% off minimum purchases of $15 or more.

Best Natural Body Oils

Best Natural Body Oils

There are so many body oils out there these days, but unfortunately they’re all not created equal.  Here’s the deal:  Your body absorbs over 60% of whatever we put on it.  Yeah, crazy huh?! So basically whatever you’re putting on your skin, your body is literally drinking up.  It then enters your blood stream.  Many times there are chemicals like dimethicone, mineral oil, petroleum, parabens, synthetic fragrance, dyes and (more…)
