Natural hair care is becoming increasingly popular, and Rahau is one of the brands leading the way. I am taking a closer look at Rahau's natural hair care range and sharing my thoughts on some of my favorite products from this brand.
Natural hair care products are always a challenge. As a hairstylist, I am not going to settle for products that don’t work! And, as a clean beauty blogger, my standards for ingredients are high.
Thankfully, there are multiple natural hair care brands on the market that hit all the marks for me and that’s why I am sharing a full Rahua Review!

All About Rahua
Rahua hair products have their roots deep in the Amazon rainforest. The reason for this is that Fabian Lliguin, a renowned hair stylist and colorist in New York City, was visiting the Amazon Rainforest to educate the indigenous people about their land and human rights when he noted the women had the most beautiful hair!
He needed to know their secret! And, their answer was rahua oil, which is used to nourish their hair and skin. He was given one bottle to bring home with him.
He experimented with this bottle on a client’s hair that was extremely dry and brittle. In just 10 minutes after application, her hair was transformed to healthy and shiny hair.
But, he knew that getting the rahua oil would be a challenge. The oil was produced by the Quechua-Shuar tribe in a very complex, ritualistic, and sustainable fashion. The same way it had been done for generations. And this was something that Fabian did not want to disrupt.
In 2008, Fabian and his wife launched the Rahua brand! They used the knowledge of the indigenous people and rahua oil to create a line of products that ultimately with help to heal, nourish and beautify your hair
Rahua’s Sustainability Efforts
Fabian, who had long worked to support the rainforest’s people as an environmentalist, has continued to do so through the sustainability efforts of the Rahua brand.
Here are a few ways Rahua supports the environment:
Ecoagents: This is a non profit created by Rahua’s founders to create awareness about the Amazon rainforest and the importance of protecting it.
Carbon Neutral: Rahua protects and preserves nearly 150,000 acres of rainforest. With these forests sequestering 750,000 tons of CO2 per year, this makes Rahua a carbon neutral brand.
Defending Galapagos Endemic Species: 10% of proceeds from the Enchanted Island Collection helps to protect and preserve portions of the Galapagos coasts. This allows habitats and nesting grounds to remain clean for flamingos, penguins, marine iguanas, sea birds and more.
Water Conservation: With only clean formulations being sold by Rahua, this prevents toxins from entering our waterways.
Packaging: Recyclable, reusable and refillable packaging is used.
Where To Buy Rahua Products
You can purchase Rahua products at a variety of places. This includes:
I have been loving this for my daughter’s curly hair. It works so well at nourishing curls and defining them, but not adding a ton of weight or greasiness to them. It also will last for a couple days I’ve noticed. Great for refreshing curls too after sleeping on them. I apply a small amount- a little goes a long way and rub throughout my hands, then work through curls. Say bye to frizz, and hello to shine!
The Freestyle Texturizer is great for creating loose styles. It adds some definition and a slight texture to hair. I love applying it after I’ve curled my hair. I add a small dime size amount to my hands and rub throughout hair. This adds some texture but without the crunchiness. A little goes a long way or your hair will seem greasy. It’s also great if you want a sleek style. Like a low sleeked back bun. I’ll apply this all over and brush through. It looks sleek but not greasy.
As a former stylist I’m always looking for a product that delivers heat protection without the added weight. This one really nourishes and protects my hair but doesn’t weigh it down. My hair felt soft and still light. My colored ends were smoother and not frizzy. A total winner!
This shampoo is really good! It gives my roots a good clean, but still hydrates the ends so they don’t feel dry. I’ve tried a lot of Rahua shampoos and this one is definitely my favorite. My hair feels clean, but not stripped! Natural Aroma in the formulas is natural- I had emailed them about it. The natural aroma is plant derived.
This is a lightweight gel for hair. Works good on shorter hairstyles. I like it for my husbands and son’s hair. It doesn’t get crunchy and doesn’t give the hair a wet look, but more textured. It adds some volume if you apply it to towel dried hair at the roots and blow dry. Subtle scent too.
This dry shampoo is unlike any I’ve used. The application is really where it’s at. You squeeze the bottle and the product squirts out. It really helps lift your hair as it squirts out. I love applying it like this too because it gives an even distribution. Most dry shampoos are just sprinkled on your hair, often leaving clumps. It not only gets rid of any greasiness but also adds volume. Especially since my hair is fine and thin. The one downside is the scent is kind of strong. It also can feel like it’s all around you, which makes it hard for you to not breathe it in. I like to pump it in my hair and then step away so I’m not breathing it on directly.
This is the first shampoo and conditioner I tried from Rahua. The shampoo doesn’t clean my hair quite as well as other shampoos. I find I need a lot of product to really get it clean. But when I do add enough product it cleans well.
The conditioner feels like a great everyday conditioner for the hair. It’s not super heavy. If you do have color treated or dry hair you may find you need something heavier. However, this is great for my fine, thin hair. It conditions enough, but not too much where my hair is weighed down. The shampoo doesn’t clean my hair quite as well as other shampoos. I find I need a lot of product to really get it clean. But when I do add enough product it cleans well.
I always love trying hair products that give hair some texture, while at the same time giving some hold and this product does just that. It helps create more texture in my hair and make it more piecey looking. Plus, it gives a great hold, without looking crispy. The smell is so good too- takes you to the beach! I even sprayed it in my hair without curling it and loved the texture it gave it
This adds a ton of moisture to the hair. I love using this before going in a pool on my girls hair or my hair. It really helps the chlorine to glide off the hair instead of soaking it in. It also acts as a UV protectant, and heat protectant too. It’s great for spraying on my girls hair before combing through. Makes it so much easier to glide the comb through! I love this especially in the summer months when a lot of time is spent swimming and being out in the sun and hair can take a hit. This really nourishes it back to life!
This is such a great shampoo for giving the scalp a good exfoliation. It not only helps to remove build up but also nourishes the scalp as well. It helps to improve blood circulation as well. I love using this every week to give my scalp some extra love! My hair feels bouncy afterwards and my scalp feels clean and nourished. This should be in everyone’s arsenal as part of their scalp and hair routine.
