With all of the fanfare over Nécessaire, I decided it was high time to do a proper review of this skincare brand. I’ll admit the curiosity got me and I had to know what all of the Necessaire hype was about. I’m happy to report that there are some products that live up to their fame or at least their product description.

Nécessaire
Nécessaire is a clean, high performance, luxury line of personal care products founded in 2018 by Nick Axelrod and Randi Christiansen. Their products are gender-neutral and free of sulfates, phthalates, parabens, petrochemicals, mineral oil, silicone, talc and free of BPA’s and GMO’s.
Third Party Certifications
- B Corp Certified
- Climate Neutral Certified
- Plastic Neutral Certified
- FSC-Certified
- 1% For The Planet
- Cruelty-Free
Ingredient Selection
Nécessaire believes that what’s not in the product is just as important as what is. With this in mind, they formulate their products without any of the ingredients on the EU’s prohibited list. In creating body care products, they use facial-grade ingredients and use synthetic ingredients when they are necessary for safety or to increase effectiveness.
Nécessaire’s products are also dermatologist-tested, hypoallergenic, and non-comedogenic.
Questionable Ingredients
Nécessaire does use phenoxyethanol. I know that for some this is a hard no in their personal care products.
But, phenoxyethanol is actually only problematic if it’s not from a clean source. In which case it can be contaminated with 1,4 dioxane, which is a known carcinogen. We have an email to Nécessaire regarding the sourcing of their phenoxyethanol and will update the post once we have heard back.
To be noted phenoxyethanol was found in The Body Wash only of the products I tested.
Sustainability Efforts
Nécessaire is B Corp Certified which means that they meet the highest standards of environmental, social and governance practices.
In fact their trademark slogan is Responsible Luxury.
They are Plastic Neutral Certified and Climate Neutral Certified which means they have measured and offset their carbon footprint.
Nécessaire products are manufactured in the USA and they run a dual shipping transit system to minimize their carbon footprint.
They also use FSC-Certified paper for their shippers, cartons and inserts.
Where can Nécessaire products be purchased?
Products can be found in stores such as Nordstrom and Sephora and online at Amazon, Sephora, Goop, Mecca, Liberty, Space NK, Lyko, Net-A-Porter and more.

I love that there is a fragrance free version of this body wash. Sometimes that’s hard to find and knowing that is an option is great. It felt refreshing on the skin. It doesn’t feel drying. After getting out of the shower, I didn’t feel like my skin was overly dry like so many body washes have made it feel. It does give a nice suds when you’re using it. A great option for a teen, or a guy too since there is a fragrance free option and the scented options aren’t overwhelming.

This felt like my old Jergens lotion days! And not in a bad way. I remember always having to have lotion for my body even when I was younger. I would slather it all over. This feels similar because it’s not a heavy thick cream but just a great everyday moisturizer. It rubs in easily and quickly. My skin doesn’t feel greasy. I like that it comes in tube too- great for travel. I would definitely recommend this for teens, young adults or just families that want a lotion that can be used on kids and adults.

I loved this shampoo! It gave me bounce to my fine/thin hair and it felt so clean! I loved how even if I didn’t blow dry my hair, I still felt my hair was squeaky clean and not greasy. As someone who is always looking for a shampoo that doesn’t weigh down my hair but instead gives it bounce, and volume, this one hit all the marks. Also, love that it’s fragrance free!

This was another winner along with The Shampoo. It gave my hair some moisture, but didn’t weigh it down. I still had great volume and bounce after using. However, my hair did feel moisturized and not dried out like some shampoos that can overly dry my hair out. Would definitely recommend it!

This is a product that I fell for quickly last year when I was testing out hand creams. It checks all the boxes! I really was surprised by how much I loved it after the first use. I applied it at night and when I woke up my hands felt so soft. There is no greasy feeling and it soaks into the skin so nicely. It makes my hands just feel incredibly smooth. It was even my top pick for best overall hand cream in my Best Natural and Organic Hand Lotions post!

This is a product that you get a lot of bang for your buck. It is an exfoliant that uses chemical and physical exfoliants in it and really feels like a body wash. I tested out the fragrance- free version, although you can choose from 3 other scented versions. This has been touted as one of the best exfoliants/products for helping to even out skin tone especially when it comes to keratosis pilaris(the bumps you can get on your arms). I love using this before applying self tanner.

I was excited to try this roll on deodorant. I like how easy it rolls on. It didn’t take long to dry on the skin. I tried the fragrance sandalwood. I didn’t love the fragrance. It actually made me think I smelled like B.O. when really it was just the sandalwood fragrance. It only lasted a day for me too, where I really felt like it wasn’t doing much. Maybe the other scents would be better, but I didn’t love this one for sure and wasn’t crazy about the formula.
