Nécessaire Review

Ready to upgrade your self-care regimen? Dive into our Nécessaire Brand review for a glimpse into luxurious essentials- including which of their products I loved and which I would skip.

With all of the fanfare over Nécessaire, I decided it was high time to do a proper review of this skincare brand. I’ll admit the curiosity got me and I had to know what all of the Necessaire hype was about. I’m happy to report that there are some products that live up to their fame or at least their product description.

Nécessaire

Nécessaire is a clean, high performance, luxury line of personal care products founded in 2018 by Nick Axelrod and Randi Christiansen. Their products are gender-neutral and free of sulfates, phthalates, parabens, petrochemicals, mineral oil, silicone, talc and free of BPA’s and GMO’s.

  • FSC-Certified

Ingredient Selection

Nécessaire believes that what’s not in the product is just as important as what is. With this in mind, they formulate their products without any of the ingredients on the EU’s prohibited list. In creating body care products, they use facial-grade ingredients and use synthetic ingredients when they are necessary for safety or to increase effectiveness.

Nécessaire’s products are also dermatologist-tested, hypoallergenic, and non-comedogenic.

Necessaire Skincare Products
I love Nécessaire’s slogan, “Responsible Luxury.”

Questionable Ingredients

Nécessaire does use phenoxyethanol. I know that for some this is a hard no in their personal care products.

But, phenoxyethanol is actually only problematic if it’s not from a clean source. In which case it can be contaminated with 1,4 dioxane, which is a known carcinogen. We have an email to Nécessaire regarding the sourcing of their phenoxyethanol and will update the post once we have heard back.

To be noted phenoxyethanol was found in The Body Wash only of the products I tested.

Sustainability Efforts

Nécessaire is B Corp Certified which means that they meet the highest standards of environmental, social and governance practices.

In fact their trademark slogan is Responsible Luxury.

They are Plastic Neutral Certified and Climate Neutral Certified which means they have measured and offset their carbon footprint.

Nécessaire products are manufactured in the USA and they run a dual shipping transit system to minimize their carbon footprint.

They also use FSC-Certified paper for their shippers, cartons and inserts.

Where can Nécessaire products be purchased?

Products can be found in stores such as Nordstrom and Sephora and online at Amazon, Sephora, Goop, Mecca, Liberty, Space NK, Lyko, Net-A-Porter and more.
