Blueland Review: Non Toxic Cleaning Products!

Dive into the world of non-toxic cleaning products with my Blueland Review!

Non toxic cleaning products are a must in my household. Add in a brand that takes sustainability efforts to the next level and Blueland has really caught my eye. Plus, after testing and loving their dishwasher tablets, I knew I needed to do a full Blueland Review and check out their full lineup of products.

Blueland Cleaning Products

Sarah Paiji Yoo, co-founder and CEO of Blueland, began a journey of limiting single use plastic after having her first child. When she discovered that microplastics were all around us, including in the water and food she was feeding her baby, she knew she had to do better. But, if it was just her doing better that wouldn’t be enough. She wanted to make it easier for everyone to use less single-use plastic. And from there, Blueland was born!

Blueland was founded in 2019 and that same year they were featured on an episode of Shark Tank. They were even able to accept a deal from Kevin O’Leary, aka Mr. Wonderful, for a 3% stake in the company. And since this deal, Blueland has launched over 10 products and diverted over 1 billion single-use plastic bottles from our landfills and oceans!

Blueland Clean Suite Kit
An easy way to get more bang for your buck is to purchase a kit- I got the Clean Suite Kit!

Blueland has a mission to

‘make it easy to be eco with innovative products in reusable packaging that are convenient, effective and affordable.’

They offer non toxic cleaning products and even some personal care products. Their business model uses a ‘refill’ type philosophy.

For the cleaning products, you have one forever bottle and you will purchase refill tablets (that you mix with water)- no shaking or stirring makes it so easy! The tablets aren’t wrapped in any sort of plastic either!

Blueland also has many 3rd party certifications that I love to see in a brand. These include:

  • B Corp Certified
  • Climate Neutral Certified (since 2020)
  • Cradle to Cradle Certified
  • EPA Safer Choice
  • USDA BioPreferred
  • EWG Verified (powder dish soap, dishwasher detergent tablet, and laundry detergent tablets)
  • Leaping Bunny
The products are so easy to make- just drop a tablet into water!

Are Blueland cleaning products non toxic?

Blueland products are made without parabens, phosphates, ammonia, VOCs, chlorine bleach, or phthalates. They are also vegan, gluten-free, soy and nut-free.

In looking closer at the ingredients in the Blueland cleaning products, I did note two that I wanted to point out.

  • Fragrance: I have an email to the brand to check on what their fragrance contains. I will update once I have heard back. It states on their website it is “Developed without any known allergens and without any Prop 65 ingredients” and it is a natural/synthetic blend. But, Blueland does offer products that are fragrance free if you are looking to avoid this. The Our Glass + Mirror Cleaner, Dish Soap, Dishwasher Tablets and Laundry tablets are fragrance free. The Oxi Laundry Booster has a fragrance free option. The Multi-Surface Spray, Bathroom Spray and Toilet Cleaner are only available in scented options currently.
  • Colorants: The other ingredient I didn’t love seeing in their products are colorants in their sprays.  This is what they state on their website, “Biodegradable material to give cleaners their color (so you know which is which) without heavy metal dyes.” I wish they didn’t use colorants at all.  Not sure why they can’t just color the reusable bottles without the dye in the actual tablet? We also emailed them about this and are waiting to hear a response.

Blueland’s Sustainability Efforts

Blueland’s sustainability efforts are truly a step above and what makes this brand a true stand out. Considering that the basis of the brand was to help minimize single use plastics, you know you aren’t going to find any of that with Blueland.  Plus they don’t ship any water or use packaging that often ends up in the landfills.

  • Forever Bottles: The product bottles they offer are meant to be used again and again. From reusable Tritan and glass bottles that are BPA and antimony free, to silicone and steel Forever Tins you won’t find any plastic here.
  • Packaging: Blueland uses recyclable shipping boxes, paper based tape, refills are in compostable packaging, and water based inks are used. In fact, ALL of of their packaging is either recyclable or compostable, or even both! They also don’t use plastic to wrap up their refill pods.
  • Efficient Water & Energy Usage
  • Carbon Neutral Shipping

How can you save money when purchasing Blueland products?

Blueland products are reasonably priced for what you are getting, but the best part is that you can save even more using a few of these hacks.

  • Purchase a kit vs single products. If you purchase any of their kits you will get more bang for your buck. For example, if you purchase The Clean Essentials you will save 20% off of the bundle. The Clean Suite Set offers a 33% savings vs individual starter kits.
  • Subscribe and Save. So many brands offer this option and it is a great way to not only save, but to also never run out of your home essentials.
  • Use your own spray bottles. If you already have your own spray bottles at home, you can skip purchasing Bluelands Forever Bottles and just get the refill packs. However, you should note that Blueland does recommend you use their Forever Bottles as they are designed for great user experience and to be used again and again.

Where can you buy Blueland cleaning products?

I especially love that Blueland products are widely available. You can find them in the following locations:

Conclusion: Are Blueland products worth it?

I do love the concept of Blueland and their sustainability efforts.  They really have thought of so much when it comes to space saving cleaning products and ditching one time use plastics. For me personally, I would still like to see them toss the fragrance overall and lose the colorants and the brand would pass with flying colors!  Not saying I wouldn’t use them, but I am drawn to other sustainable cleaning products that don’t use fragrance or colorants.
