Natural Beauty For Spring Break

Natural Beauty For Spring Break

Time to share some of my top picks in natural beauty for spring break!  Some have spring break in the next couple weeks, others have it in a month.  Either way, it’s time for my top picks!  Each year I find some new items that I can’t wait to share with you for Spring Break.  Whether it’s a sunscreen, new lip color or cute beach bag.

This year is no different, I was so excited to finally share all my top picks!  Something for everyone.  Natural beauty just keeps getting better and better.

Maya Chia Highlight of The Day-

Who doesn’t want a little glow on vacation?  These little bottles are filled with liquid radiance- I know sounds too good to be true, but it’s not.  It comes in several shades.  You really can’t go wrong with any of them.  You apply it really however you want!  I love applying mine on my upper cheek bone, bridge of my nose, in the upper middle section of my brows, cupid’s bow, and middle of chin.  All the normal places you would use a traditional highlighter.  You can even apply it on the inner corners of your eyes to wake them up.  You can apply it over your foundation or mix it with your foundation or just where it by itself.  I’ve done them all, and love the effect it gives.  You literally look like your lit from within.  As a mom, these have been serious game changers!  I look more awake and they last.  I can’t wait to mix them in my body oil in the summer for an all over body glow!  Get one here- you will look like your glowing!

Beautycounter Lip Sheers

Beautycounter lip sheers are the perfect subtle moisturizing lip!

Beautycounter Lip Sheers-

So this isn’t new if you follow me.  I’m obsessed with these little guys.  They offer moisture but aren’t as glossy as a lip gloss. The color is subtle and pretty.   Great for beach and pool days when you want something understated, yet still want to look polished.  I love the color Petal.  The perfect pale pink.  There’s no redness in it.  I can’t stop wearing it!  Goes with everything.  I also love Poppy, and Rose.  Can’t wait to try more!  Check out all the colors here!

All Good Sunscreen-

This sunscreen has been a staple the last two years.  Everything about it, from ease of application to, great sun protection- it checks all the boxes and then some.  Plus, the ingredients are clean!  Often it’s easy to hit two of the boxes but not all of them.  Not with All Good sunscreen!  Not only is it organic, but non-gmo, gluten free, vegan and coral reef friendly.  It uses the mineral zinc oxide to block the suns rays.  It’s also water and sweat resistant up to 80 min. too.  But the real kicker- it comes in a clean spray! Yes, you heard me right.  There is a spray sunscreen that is clean.  Instead of using toxic chemicals for the propellant like most spray sunscreens they use a combination of jojoba and nitrogen(something that is already in the atmosphere).  The ease of use with a spray can’t be beat- it’s amazing!  The sprays come in a kid’s version that has an spf of 30 and adult version with spf 30.  I’ve used them both and can say they work so well.  They also carry sunscreen in tubes, in butter sticks with spf 50, in tins with spf 50, in lip balm form and even in large family sizes.  If you’ve been searching for a clean, effective sunscreen- this is it.  It takes the cake in every area.  Snag some here!

Beautycounter Hydrating Body Lotion in Citrus Mimosa-

This body lotion smells SO good!  I also love that it comes in a tube.  So easy for travel.  It’s big enough for my whole family too, which I love.  On trips I find everyone has drier skin from the pool or ocean and just being out in the sun.  This lotion solves dry skin quick.  Plus, it smells like the tropics!  Safe for pregnancy too.  Snag it here!

Primally Pure Charcoal Deodorant

This Primally Pure Charcoal natural Deodorant keeps me smelling fresh all day long!

Primally Pure Deodorant-

When temps get warmer, we all want to still feel fresh when it comes to our underarms.  Primally Pure Charcoal deodorant is seriously the bomb.com when it comes to keeping you smelling fresh all day long!  Even my hubs can attest to it’s greatness.  We both can’t stop using it.  We don’t experience any irritation either.  Trust me, it’s SO good!  Get it here!

Aila Nail Polish

Love Aila Nail Polish! Best natural nail polish.

Aila Nail Polish-

Hands down my favorite nail polish in clean beauty!  It lasts longer than any nail polish, is free of the nasties, and the shades are just so darn pretty.  Plus, their Better Than Gel Top Coat is the best top coat in clean beauty.  It rates a 1 on the EWG and literally makes your polish last like a gel polish.  It’s the real deal.  I’m crushing on the nail polish colors in California Love, Tiddlywink Tea, and Roze.  My tried and true faves are Bodega, Room 212, and Namaste.  Get your tootsies pretty for the sun!

Beautycounter Toning Pads

These toning pads by Beautycounter are rocking my world!

Beautycounter Rejuvenating Toner Pads-

I’ve been using these for a month and I can’t stop.  I haven’t found anything like them in natural beauty.  They are a toner pad.  So it’s a cotton pad that already has the toning elixir on it.  You just take a pad and wipe it all over your fave.  It Instantly  refreshes your skin.  I love that I can see how clean my skin actually is!  It shows if I’m really cleansing my skin well enough.  Plus, these are perfect in warm weather when we tend to get a little sweaty.  I love having these on hand to wipe away the sweat quick so it doesn’t just sit on my skin and cause…you know breakouts.  Trust me, you’ll love them!  Get them here!

Luna Rose and Honey Mask-

After a day at the beach or the pool, sometimes you need a little skincare love.  I love this mask!  It makes my skin glow in minutes- no joke!  It apply it all over in the morning and then grab my toothbrush and then rinse off once I’m done brushing my teeth.  It feels so hydrating and soothing to the skin.  It gives a slight exfoliation too with herbal grains.  The raw honey in this mask draws moisture to the skin while soaking up all the excess oils at the same time.  What I love is that this mask can be used daily as a cleanser or as a mask a couple times a week.  It really lives up to it’s name: Glowing Mask.  I promise you won’t be disappointed!  I can’t get enough of this decadent skin treat!  Oh and did I mention it’s only $30?  Get your mask here! Use coupon code: GURLGONEGREEN for 20% off!

Beautycounter Facial Wipes-

Ok, so when you’re on vacation you want to bring as little as possible right?  And have things be a little easier.  Well then you need these makeup removing wipes!  These are in a league of their own.  I kept hearing people say to try the wipes and so of course I did!  These wipes have the perfect moisture amount.  I had yet to find a green beauty wipe that worked so well.  They were either to dry or not soft enough.  Beautycounter hit all the marks on these wipes.  They are soft, moist and even biodegradable.  If you’re a wipe gal you need these!  Perfect for travel too.  You could even cut them in half to make them last longer.  Get them here!

Eco Tan Water

Love getting my glow on with Eco Tan’s self tanning products.

Eco Tan-

I mean my body hasn’t seen the sun in several months, so a fake tan is definitely needed!  ThankfullI love that this product isn’t a lotion or cream but just like a toner for the skin.  Sometimes creams can be greasy and just too much for the face.  The Face Tan water gives you no greasiness and feels so light on the skin.  I applied this twice a week for an all over tan glow.  I would make sure to cleanse and exfoliate my skin beforehand and then apply the self tanner to dry skin.  I used a cotton round to apply it and just made sure to rinse them well afterwards to ensure I didn’t have any leftover residue.  I applied to my face and decolletage.  I also love their tan body lotion!  Get the Face Tan Water here!

Beautycounter Dew Skin-

This is perfect for warmer weather!  It has an SPF 20 and blends so well into the skin, you would hardly notice you’re wearing much. If you want really minimal coverage and more of a tinted moisturizer feel and look, then Dew Skin is for you.  It blends so well into the skin, you would hardly notice you’re wearing much.  Yet it creates such an even canvas for your skin.  It’s super hydrating too!  I wear the color No. 2.  I love easy when I’m on vacation, and Dew Skin is just that!  Get it here!

I Create Waves Review

Can’t get enough of Innersense Beauty’s I Create Waves texture salt spray!

Innersense Leave In Conditioner and Salt Spray-

Hair is important and I can’t not share my favorites for sunnier weather! First, I love Innersense Leave In Conditioner.  It literally is necessary for beach and pool days.  I spray it in my hair and my girls hair to protect it from the pool water.  If your hair is already wet, then it’s not going to soak up the chlorine.  No one wants green hair- especially if you’re blonde!  I also love it, post beach days for when hair needs to be detangled.  Say goodbye to knots and tangles- this is your new best friend mama!

I also love Innersense Salt Spray, it’s their newest product and I can’t get enough.  A lot of texture or salt sprays can weigh the hair down a bit.  Not this one.  It gives my hair some decent hold, almost like a subtle hair spray, and then it adds texture.  Not heavy texture that gets super crunchy.  This is effortless texture that makes it feel like your hair just did it on it’s own.  I love spraying it in my hair to break up my curls after I curl my hair.  It gives my hair a tousled look.  I’m excited to travel because I don’t even think I would bring a hair spray- just this!  It offers enough hold.  This would work great for those with curly hair too as it would help to liven up your natural curls.  SO excited to have this in the summer months!  Get your I Create Waves Texture Spray here!

March Natural Beauty Box Roundup

March Natural Beauty Box Roundup

March Natural Beauty Box roundup is here!  Can you believe it’s March?!  I felt like January and February flew by- literally.  So excited we’re getting closer to Spring!  I’ve got the lowdown on all the clean beauty boxes.  First up this month is Beauty Heroes!  Keep checking back as I update the list.

Natural beauty box

Excited to share with you Beauty Heroes March Discovery box!

Beauty Heroes: March Discovery BLUH Alchemy

So excited to share this month’s Beauty Heroes Box with you, BLUH Alchemy!  I’ve loved getting to know the product and also learning the back story behind this natural beauty brand.

BLUH Alchemy was started by Becky Bluh who had a strong desire to help her daughter’s skin heal from itchy, dry and sensitive skin.  Becky knew she was on to something when her daughter’s skin began to heal.  She realized she wanted to pursue the power of plants even further and really learn of their medicinal properties.

Besides experimenting on her own, she also was trained in cosmetic chemistry where she collaborated with top natural chemists to create BLUH Alchemy.  Not only does this innovative skincare line help protect against environmental effects, but natural aging, and daily oxidative stressors.  Using botanicals, BLUE Alchemy treats the skin with intentional products that produce results naturally.

I have never used any BLUE Alchemy products and was so excited to try the products out!  Once a product junkie, always a product junkie.

Heroic Product- BLUE Alchemy Multi C Serum

If you thought you knew about Vitamin C, step aside.  This is a new Vitamin C you have yet to use!  This is a quote about the product:

A breakthrough in botanical technology, Multi C Serum features the world’s first full- spectrum photoactive Vitamin C, a cellular extract from the kakadu plum that boasts 50 x more antioxidant potency than a Florida orange.

It’s actually more stable than any other Vitamin C!  This serum has a multitude of Vitamin C’s all wrapped into one.  From quandong and sea buckthorn berry oils.  When you combine them together they are a force to be reckoned with!

It’s no secret Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can brighten, lighten and create a glowing complexion.  Plus, this unique formula has peptides that help to firm the skin, green coffee, and ferric acid.  Say bye to dull, ruddy skin and hello to glowing, radiant skin!  I use it after toning my skin at night and in the morning.  I noticed an improved overall texture, glow and evenness to my skin.  I love how it absorbs so effortlessly into the skin.  And can we talk about the luxe frosted glass bottle?  I love how it pumps how and has a cap- so easy for travel. I can’t wait to keep using it!

BLUH Alchemy Toning Elixir-

The sidekick this month is just as good!  This deep hydration toning elixir takes your skin from parched and dry to hydrated and supple.  Not only does this toning elixir contain bioactive and antioxidants but hyaluronic acid and hibiscus to keep moisture intact.  This hydration helps to firm your skin while helping to fade fine lines and of course when skin is hydrated it naturally glows!

One of my favorite things I found to be in this toning elixir was Niacinamide which is vitamin B3.  This is a powerhouse ingredient for your skin!  It has long been applauded for it’s ability to soothe the skin, calm inflammation and help clear acne.  Not too mention helps strengthen the skin.  This really is such an amazing toning elixir!  I spray this on my skin and pat in with my hands morning and night.  I can’t get enough of it!

Best part is you can get this fabulous box right now for such a steal!  This box is valued at $209 but you can snag it for $42.95…I mean what are you waiting for?!  This box has been one of my very favorites and I don’t want you to miss out on it!  Hop on it now if you’re thinking of getting it before they sell out!

Boxwalla April Box

Boxwalla’s Beauty Box for April featuring Malaya and Flowerspice.

Boxwalla March Box-

This is a bi-monthly box. I really love that it’s bi-monthly!  It makes you really savor each product.  This month we are seeing two different brands in the box.  Flowerspice and Malaya.

Flowerspice Soothe and Repair Daily Moisturizer- This moisturizer is so lovely!  It completely hydrates your skin but doesn’t leave it feeling greasy or oily.  The scent is so nice too.  Very different but I love it.  It’s a mixture of rose and coriander.  It comes in a glass jar.  I would scoop some out and apply it to my skin after my serums at night.  My skin would feel so hydrated and supple in the morning.  I even have been using it for my hands as they have been drier and loving how moisturized they feel.  This isn’t your average moisturizer.  It’s filled with aloe, prickly pear and Swiss Mountain Spring Water.  A serious treat for the skin!

Malaya  Advanced Repair Mask- This mask is unlike any mask I’ve used. It is both clarifying and nourishing at the same time.  Made with neem flower honey, bentonite clay and aloe, this mask really is a powerhouse when it comes to hitting all the skincare needs.  I love how my skin feels cleared, yet hydrated and glowing after using it.  And the smell!  I just love the smell.  It’s a lemongrass, blue tansy smell that I can’t get enough of!  I love how the ingredients are soothing like aloe and blue tansy, but at the same time clarifying from the honey, and clay.  Can’t stop using it!

I would snag this box soon!  It’s a $160 value but you can get it for $49.95!  Get it here!

March Clean Beauty Box

The March Clean Beauty Box is all about Indulge!

The Clean Beauty Box-

This month’s clean beauty box is filled with Beneath Your Mask.  This brand is known for really repairing and rejuvenating the skin and helping to reverse damage caused by environmental toxins. The brand fits so well with the theme, Indulge.  It’s all about indulging your senses and your skin.

Total Body Elixir- This elixir is such a indulgent skin treat.  It not only deeply nourishes your skin with 18 pure plant oils and botanicals but it also help protect it from the environment.  Your skin is left glowing and radiant!  The ingredient deck is stacked too.  With Baobab seed oil, white camellia seed oil, pomegranate seed oil and sea buckthorn berry co2.  These oils not only hydrate but also help heal stretch marks and scars and calm redness.  I apply the oil to slightly damp skin after showering and my skin is left feeling so soft.

Skin + Hair Serum- This is such a unique product.  Not only can you use it on your skin but also your hair.  With nourishing ingredients for your scalp like neem this is perfect for calming scalp inflammation but reducing dandruff.  I applied it on my scalp and ends of hair at night and then slept in it.  I would shampoo my hair the next day and it would feel so hydrated.  I didn’t need to apply that much since my hair is fine and thin.  A little goes a long way.  For my skin I would apply as the last step in my skincare routine at night.  My skin would feel hydrated and moisturized but not greasy.  It has such a nice vibrant scent with the lemongrass oil in it.  Really adds a glow to the skin.  Such a great product for travel too!  A two in one!

This box is valued at $90 but you can get it for $41.95!  Such a steal for a green beauty box!  Get it here!

Organic Beauty Foundation Guide

Organic Beauty Foundation Guide

My organic beauty foundation guide is officially complete…at least until I try another foundation that I like!  I’ve tried a ton of foundations since going green 7 years ago and I’ve narrowed it down to the products that performed.  After all you shouldn’t have to sacrifice a good foundation when transitioning to green beauty.

I really wanted to give you guys all the tools to make the best decision when choosing a foundation that’s why I created my organic beauty foundation guide.  I broke it down into easy to read categories, getting specific on skin type even.  Also, all the photos below are taken in the same light up until the W3ll People BB Cream.  After that I added new foundations and they are in a different light.  However, there is no filter on any of them.  The foundations are on the right side in the photo for the first half of the reviews, then for the second half of the reviews they’re on the left side.  If I’m wearing foundation on one side then I’m wearing nothing on the other side.  I wanted you guys to see the comparison. This is literally what the product looks like on my skin.  I really hope this organic beauty foundation guide helps you to find a foundation that works for your skin and that you love!

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to comment below, or email me- I would love to help you out!

*Also, I even created a free download for you guys on how to achieve flawless foundation application!  I’m sharing my 3 step process to ensure your foundation stays looking good from start to finish.  Plus, all the brushes I use for each foundation.  Download it below!

Formula: A very creamy consistency in a pump bottle.

How it looks on: It gives a dewy, natural look to the skin.

Coverage: light

Skin Type: This is great for dry to combination skin types that don’t want a lot of coverage.

Why I like it: Although the formula is too light for me(I like at least a medium coverage foundation) I really like the consistency and the feel of the product.  It doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything and the ingredients are great.  If you do like more of a medium to full coverage look you could always spot conceal where you don’t get enough coverage or you could try mixing your concealer with the bb cream.  Get your BB Cream here!

Why I like it: Even though this is a loose powder foundation, it still doesn’t get messy.  I just tap the powder into the cap and swirl the brush around and then apply the foundation. Doesn’t feel cakey or heavy for a foundation but light. The fish is flawless.  For a powdered foundation this one is pretty great!  Get it here!

Clove and Hallow Liquid Skin Tint-

Formula: It’s a liquid foundation- comes in a tube.

How it looks on:  It is a matte foundation and does dry matte but it doesn’t look too dry or stark.  I think since it’s a liquid it still doesn’t look as matte as a powder.

Coverage: It gives a medium coverage.

Skin Type: Normal to oily.  This one is especially great for those with normal skin who want a more matte finish when humidity rises in the summer months.

Why I like it:  It’s nice to be able to have a matte finish with a liquid and not a powder.  It doesn’t feel heavy on or like my skin is cracking because it’s drying.  If you do have dry skin though I wouldn’t recommend it.  Get it here!

Suntegrity 5-1-Natural Moisturizing Tinted Face

Wearing Suntegrity on the left side of my face(when looking at me).

Suntegrity 5-in-1 Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen-

Formula:  This is a tinted moisturizer/bb cream.  So it has SPF in it and it also acts like a foundation.  It has SPF 30 and comes in a liquid.

How it looks on: It’s very dewy looking and looks really natural.  It’s not heavy at all.

Coverage: Provides light to slightly medium coverage.  More on the light side.  More coverage than I’ve experienced with previous tinted moisturizers.

Skin Type:  This is best for dry to normal skin types.  If you do have oily or acne prone skin I would do a patch test since this can be slightly irritating for some people with more oily skin types.

Why I like it:  It goes on smooth and feels creamy.  Gives my skin some good coverage but also has the added SPF which I love.  It gives me more coverage than a lot of tinted moisturizers, which is a big plus for me.  I love that it also hydrates the skin.  A great summer foundation or throughout the year if you like a more natural approach and prefer sunscreen in your foundation.  Get it here!

That sums up my organic beauty foundation guide.  See anything you want to try?  What’s your go to green beauty foundation?

Natural Winter Skincare

Natural Winter Skincare

Anyone else wondering what natural winter skincare faves to have on hand this season?  Winter is full on here, I mean we finally have snow, ice and some seriously cold temps. When it’s this cold, I’m either happiest when I’m sitting next to a fire, drinking something warm or bundled up- who’s with me?!  This mama likes warm temps! I’ve had so many winter skincare questions lately that I thought I would do a dedicated post on the subject.  After all, as the seasons change, so should your skincare.  When it’s cold and dry your skin needs different things then when it’s hot and humid. So if your skin’s been freaking out the past few weeks- keep reading!  It’s time to address some of the common skin issues when winter strikes!

Hydrate

It’s no secret that the air becomes drier when winter comes.  The air no longer holds as much moisture like it does in the warm months.  When the air is drier, skin also can get drier.  Unfortunately, this can lead to skin cracking, redness and overall heightened sense of sensitivity.  When your skin loses it’s moisture barrier, it can easily get infamed. Not a recipe for skin success!

How to combat moisture loss?

I’m going to get to creams and oils, but it’s also important to really think about what you’re using to cleanse your skin.  Are you cleansing your skin with a harsh cleanser that is going to strip your skin and leave it feeling drier? Swap out your spring or summer cleanser for a oil based or cream cleanser.  This will nourish your skin from the very beginning of your routine, keeping your skin balanced from the start.

natural skincare winter

Sharing the best natural cleansers for the winter season.

Here are some of my favorite natural winter skincare cleansers-

  • Beautycounter Cleansing Balm- If you’re not familiar with a cleansing balm allow me to explain.  A cleansing balm feels just like the name suggests- a balm.  It’s thick and you only need a small amount applied to dry skin to get all the makeup, and grime off from the day.  Once you’re done rubbing in circular motions with it, then you take a warm washcloth and use it to remove it all.  The beauty of a cleansing balm is your skin doesn’t feel dried out at all afterwards.  It feels balanced, and so hydrated!  Grab it here!
  • OSEA Ocean Cleanser- This is one of my favorite cleansers in clean beauty.  It isn’t drying but not overly hydrating either.  A good balance for sure.  If you tend to have oily skin, or live in a pretty mild climate during the winter this would be a great cleanser.  I first get my skin damp, then apply this cleanser all over my skin. Grab it here!
  • Mahalo Unveil Cleanser- This is another cleanser that is similar to a cleansing balm.  However, I do get my skin damp first before applying this.  It emulsifies a little(gets sudsy) when you apply to skin with water.  It feels so good on the skin!! It removes all the makeup, and grime easily too.  Grab it here!
  • Christina Moss Organic Facial Wash- This facial wash is both affordable and effective!  It is great for the most sensitive skin types.  It doesn’t leave your skin dry and yet removes your makeup and grime.  I apply to wet skin and rub in circular motions and then rinse off. Grab it here!
  • Beautycounter Nourishing Cleanser- I’ve only been using this cleanser for two weeks, so I hesitated to put it in here but it really is so good I couldn’t not share!  It’s perfect for dry, winter months.  I apply it to damp skin and rub it all over my skin- removes my eye makeup and everything. It’s a really creamy consistency.  Ideal for those skin types that are really dry and sensitive.  It’s also pretty budget friendly too. Grab it here!

So now that you know what cleansers to use to not dry out your skin even more, let’s talk about exfoliants.

Exfoliants

During the winter months since skin is more sensitive and vulnerable, it’s best to steer clear of the manual exfoliants.  Some people might do fine with them depending on their skin type but overall physical exfoliants can be too harsh.

It’s best to stick with chemical or enzyme exfoliants.  Enzyme exfoliants are similar to chemical exfoliation but much gentler.  It breaks down the glue that holds together dead skin.  They use active ingredients like papain, papaya and pineapple to slough off the dead skin. Enzyme exfoliation is great for someone with sensitive skin.  There’s no actual manual exfoliant involved.  Another type is chemical exfoliation.  Chemical exfoliation is stronger than enzyme exfoliation.  It uses Alpha Hydroxy Acids(AHA’s) or Beta Hydroxy Acids(BHA’s).  AHA’s are not as strong as BHA’s.  A lot of peels are considered chemical exfoliants.  Chemical exfoliants are great for those with oily skin and acne.

Best natural beauty exfoliants for the winter season.

Here are some of my favorite natural winter skincare exfoliants-

  • Leahlani Honey Love- This is a gentle exfoliant using enzymes to help slough off dead skin cells.  It is healing, brightening and exfoliating all at the same time.  Especially great for those with combination or acne prone skin.  I apply this to damp clean skin and rub in circular motions.  Then I let it sit on my skin for 3-5 minutes. Grab it here!
  • Laurel Honey Berry Enzyme Mask- This is also an enzyme exfoliator that gently lifts away dead skin.  It smells so good!  A mixture of honey, berries and grapefruit.  I apply this to damp skin, rub in circular motions and then let it sit on skin for 5-30 minutes.  Grab it here!
  • Pai Kukui & Jojoba Bead Skin Brightening Exfoliator- I discovered this exfoliator last year and since have been using it.  It really helps to brighten skin gently using jojoba beads. The jojoba beads aren’t harsh but gentle.  They glide over the skin easily, not disrupting skin’s natural moisture balance.  I apply this to clean damp skin and rub in circular motions.  Especially great for sensitive skin types. Grab it here!
  • Ursa Major Bright and Easy 3-Minute Flash Mask- This mask gets you glowing in 3 minutes flat- just like the name suggests.  It’s perfect for the most sensitive skin types.  Worried your skin might react to a harsh exfoliant?  This may be the one for you.  Using enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells, this mask does it all in 3 minutes!  It looks like a gel and feels light and refreshing on the skin.  If you’re perpetually running late, this may be the mask for you!  I put it on before I brush my teeth and rinse off once I’m done.  The perfect amount of time to get a quick glow for the rest of the day. Grab it here!

Ok, now that we’ve got cleansers and exfoliants down, let’s talk about oils and creams.

Facial Oils

Oils are definitely the rage, but for good reason!  An oil consists of essential fatty acids that help to bring moisture to the skin. They also help to repair the outer layer of the skin so you don’t lose more moisture.  Our bodies don’t produce EFA’s on their own so we need to supplement them internally and externally.  I like taking a fish oil daily for some good omega 3’s.  Oils also can contain a mix of essential oils that help to balance the skin and provide therapeutic properties.  Oil’s work perfectly with our skin’s cutaneous and get to the center of the epidermis.  Many people with oily skin think they should avoid oils- when really the opposite is true.  Using oils helps bring balance to the skin and don’t clog pores(if you choose the right ones) like other moisturizers that contain emulsifiers, waxes, etc.

natural beauty winter

Best Clean Beauty Oils for the winter season.

Here are some of my favorite natural winter skincare oils-

  • Supercritical Pure Chia Oil- (dry skin, sensitive) This oil is made for even the driest skin types.  Literally hydrating the most parched skin.  It also has ingredients that plump up the skin and minimize fine lines.  This is an all around super hydrator.  I use it in the morning before my makeup or after a serum at night when I need some extra moisture.  Your skin will feel like silk!  Read more on the Supercritical Pure Chia Oil here and get one for yourself here!
  • Osmia Organic’s Nectar Vital Rose Drops- The name is so appropriate for it, it truly feels like nectar on your skin, a rich luxe oil.  Some oils feel thinner but this one feels fatty-haha are you still with me?!  Let’s just say I love the feel of it.  And the smell, amazing!  Subtle rose, sandalwood and jasmine envelope you.  I applied this at night and in the morning.  At night I applied it after the toner and my skin just drank it up.  In the morning my skin felt silky smooth and hydrated.  It was as if it had a big drink of water at night and was infused with oxygen.  Seriously, it’s SO good!  You only need a few drops too.  Having dry skin once the weather starts to turn I like adding a heavier moisturizer/oil in the morning.  This was just the ticket.  I allowed my skin to soak it up for 5 minutes before applying my makeup.  You guys will love this, trust me!  With only 8 ingredients, this 99.6% organic nectar is seriously so lovely. Grab it here!
  • Holi(oil) Youth Serum- This frosted bottle contains a rich oil that smells like roses.  Not only does it help smooth skin and wrinkles but it also is extremely hydrating.  It doesn’t feel greasy at all and seeps into your skin, giving your face a radiance.  My skin looked restored.  I used this after several sleepless nights and it literally brought the life back into my skin.  It’s true to it’s name- giving you your youthful skin back!  There isn’t a long list of ingredients but the ones that are in there are effective.  I also love using this before makeup.  My foundation glides on.  Bonus- my husband can use it too!  This has barely any ingredients and scores a 2 when it comes to comedogenic rating. Which means it’s most likely not to cause clogged pores in people, however it could still in some.
    Grab your bottle here!
  • Indie Lee Squalane Oil- Helps with texture and appearance of skin tone.  It nourishes the skin without feeling greasy.  Has a comedogenic rating of 0-1. I love how simplistic this oil is.  It literally only contains squalene oil- that’s it!  Great for sensitive skin and for improving the overall quality of the skin’s appearance.  Grab it here!

  • Pai Rosehip Seed Oil- This oil has a rating of 1 on the comedogenic scale. Rosehip seed oil is great for so many things, from hydrating skin to calming inflammation.  I love that this oil only has 3 ingredients.  It’s really known for it’s healing properties and it’s rich Omega 3, 6, 7 & 9 plus antioxidant Carotenoids content.   This is also budget friendly oil! Grab it here!

  • Marie Veronique Soothing B3 Serum- This serum is good all seasons but especially in the dead of winter when skin can get irritated and extra sensitive from the elements.  It helps to calm the skin with essential B Vitamins.  It helps to calm sensitivity and redness and reduce acne.  It doesn’t have any essential oils in it either!  Regular use of Niacinamide has shown to help ease inflammation and overall acne.  This isn’t hydrating on it’s own, it’s a gel consistency.  I would apply this before an oil.  Make sure if you do struggle with acne, that you’re not getting a comedogenic oil.  The Indie Lee Squalene Oil and the Pai Rosehip Seed Oil would be good oils to start with above. Grab it here!

Now that you know what oil to choose, let’s dive into creams.

Creams

Many people aren’t sure what the difference is between an oil, a cream and a lotion.  Allow me to explain.  An oil is just that- just an oil- nothing added.  A cream has a mix of water and oil, but more oil than water and then a lotion is also a mixture of water and oil but the higher percentage is water- which makes it thinner.  Creams are great at protecting the skin, especially after applying an oil and if you need additional moisture.  I like doing them at night.  A lotion is good for in the morning when you want some hydration but don’t want to be too greasy from an oil.

We are going to focus on creams and their benefits.  They really are the superstar in the winter for dry skin.  They really help to protect skin and hold in the moisture.

Here are some of my favorite natural winter skincare creams-

  • Joshrosebrook Vital Balm Cream- The Vital Balm Cream is hands down one of my favorite moisturizers. It feels creamy to the touch-not greasy and when I apply it my skin’s dryness dissipates and I’m left with plump hydrated skin.  Ok, the smell…well it’s amazing! One of the best smelling products I’ve ever used.  It has a fresh, light smell with vanilla enveloping all of it and blue tansy and ylang ylang notes throughout-I’m obsessed with the smell.  It has the properties of a balm but feels like a cream-I mean it’s kind a dream cream!  Can we talk about the color too?!  The baby mint/blue hue just looks cool. The ingredient I was excited to learn about in the product is Indian Senna Seed.  It really performs just like it supposed to in this cream.  It’s been called the botanical hyaluronic acid, it gives skin the ability to retain moisture on it’s own.  So your skin feels hydrated well after application.  Grab it here!
  • Jane Scrivener OO Cream- This cream has a bright golden orange hue from rosehip.  I was so excited to see how this would stack up to other moisturizers.  Well, I was impressed- very impressed.  I’ve now been using this every night since I got it in the mail and can’t stop!  It’s SO hydrating.  Some creams leave your skin hydrated for a minute but this one lasts.  It really sinks into the skin so nicely.  I wake up in the morning and my skin still feels supple and moisturized, but not oily- I repeat not oily.  Can I talk to you about the scent?  I love the scent.  It smells like vanilla- soothing and warm vanilla. It’s really an amazing product!  If you’ve been looking for a cream to truly hydrate your skin in this winter season or any time- this is it.  I can’t stop and won’t stop using it! Grab it here!
  • Beautycounter Creams- I’ve been using the Countermarch Recovery Sleeping Cream at night over my facial oil and I’ve been loving it!  It provides just a little extra moisture.  I’ve also been using it before my makeup and it’s not too greasy.  It might be in the summer but right now my skin needs some extra moisture.  If you feel extra dry or have mature skin I would get the Rejuvenating Cream.  My mom has this cream and loves it!  Her skin is mature and very dry.  She loves a good hydrating cream.  The Rejuvenating Cream is also a bestseller!

Balms

So first what are skincare balms and why might you need one?? Good question. Balms are made generally from oils, butters, and waxes. In my opinion a true balm is waterless. The product is more concentrated when there’s not water and so pure. Balms are multitaskers. They seriously can do it all. From cleanse, hydrate, protect and even offer some serious nutrients. Since balms typically involve a lot of oils, they are using soluble ingredients. Which in the end let’s you put more ingredients into one product. Hello effectiveness! Plus, since they’re waterless usually formulas can include ingredients that are more potent. Balms are especially great in the winter when your skin needs extra protection.  They can help to protect skin from the harsh winds, cold and lock in the moisture.  I apply balms after oils or creams.

Best clean beauty balms for the winter season.

Here are some of my natural winter skincare balms-

  • Maya Chia Waterless Wonderbalm- The balm itself is definitely a wonder.  I couldn’t get enough.  From my face, dry hands, feet, even my elbows, this balm seals in all the moisture.  No greasy residue is left behind.  My skin feels so hydrated, but the kind of hydration where you aren’t grabbing for the next moisturizing product.  This is all you need.  If you haven’t found anything that will give you that moisture you crave, then do yourself a favor and grab this balm-your skin will thank you! Grab it here!
  • Leahlani Bless Beauty Balm- Dry skin stands no chance with this baby!  This is a balm and not a cream but performs like a cream in many ways. It’s full of organic shea and cocoa butters, as well as cold pressed oils.  It melts right into your skin and leaves behind a beautiful smell of rosehip oil and no oily residue.  My skin felt so hydrated!  The perfect companion for dry weather in winter, and in the summer when you’ve spent too much time in the sun.  You only need a little dab for the whole face. Grab it here!
  • Kari Gran Essential Balm- The Essential Balm really keeps with Kari Gran’s mission and ethos to only use what you need and to keep things simple.  I love that about their brand.  This balm can be used for so many things.  From a facial moisturizer, to an eye balm, a cleansing balm and even a primer.  Really it’s what you make of it and what works for you.  It has incredible texture and feel.  A little more slip than a traditional balm and almost melts into your hand when applying it. Grab it here!
  • CVS Restorative Skin Balm- This is such a great protective skin balm.  If your skin is cracked, dry and needing protection from the elements, this is your balm.  It is similar to a conventional petroleum jelly product.  It will soften skin, while hydrating at the same time. I even have used this on cuticles, elbows, or anywhere you experience cracked, dry skin. Grab it here!

Also, besides skincare products there are a few other things you can start to incorporate to ensure your skin stays calm and hydrated.

  • Avoid long hot showers that can dry out your skin.
  • Use lukewarm water when your cleansing your skin.
  • Apply moisturizer when skin is still slightly damp to lock in moisture.
  • Stay hydrated- make sure you’re drinking your water.
  • Eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, nuts, seeds or take an omega-3 supplement.
  • Avoid clothing that can irritate your skin like wool.

See any products you need to get?  What helps keep your skin hydrated and balanced during the winter months?

I’m left with balanced skin, that feels hydrated but not oily.  It feels like butter on the skin, it has such a great slip to it.  Made with jojoba oil, beeswax and 9 essential oils, this is the first step in Jane’s 5-A-Day Facial Routine.  If you struggle with dry skin- I can’t recommend this enough- such a great cleanser especially for dry winter months.  Plus, who doesn’t want a fluffy cleansing mitt! This mitt is divine.  I love slipping my hand in it to easily remove all the cleansing balm.

The Clean Beauty Box(formerly Art Of Organics): January Box Rescue

Clean Beauty Box Review

The Clean Beauty Box January Discovery Rescue.

One Love Organics Vitamin C Serum- So excited to see One Love Organics Vitamin C Serum. This serum is unlike anything I’ve used. It is a rich hearty face serum, that really delivers some serious skin nutrients. With plant ingredients like rosehip, baobab, and acerola + seabuckthorn that help bring the plant based vitamin c. Your skin will feel glowing and radiant! It sinks right into the skin and gives your face an overall soft hydrated feeling. The smell is very light too with subtle hints of rosemary. I apply this right before my oils, while my skin is slightly damp and it soaks right in. It’s a different formula too because it has 2 difference types of vitamin C. The first is green tea seed oil and the Vitamin E and ascorbyl palmitate. A double punch to help fight free radicals and keep your skin in tip top shape!

Henne Organics Luxury Lip Balm and Lip Mask- I have tried their lip balm in the past and loved it. It’s so nice that it’s in a stick form, making it easy to apply to the lips without getting your fingers all messy. Plus, it hydrates for a long time! The ingredients are amazing too. The lip mask is meant to be applied on the lips and left for 15-30 minutes. It is meant to rejuvenate your lips and give them a little tlc. With ingredients like sea buckthorn and evening primrose, your lips will literally be all ready for some serious smooching! I loved how hydrated my lips felt afterwards. Such a treat for the lips.

This box is perfect for the winter dry months when your skin could use some r&r. The box is valued at $131, but you can get it right now for $41.95! Such a great box and the price is amazing! Snag the The Clean Beauty Box here!
